I
wanted to bring this to your attention again, with some sound
samples to entice you...
Eccentric Swedish avant-synth sibling duo The Knife is comprised
of former Honey Is Cool vocalist and wi-fi feminist Karin
Dreijer and her brother, studio-warlock Olaf Dreijer. The
Knife are one of the most singularly freaky combos in so
many ways, yet the band calls themselves merely “electronic
pop punk”, which really, with their grasp of pop melodies,
punk hybridization, and hard-drive derring do, doesn’t
do them justice. Emblazoned with vintage synth sounds and
oldskool eurotechno rhythms, The Knife are happy to drag
their songs through retro clichés… Imagine Nico
backed by Gary Numan, Le Tigre with Kate Bush, and Bjork & Sebastian… The
Knife are wild and woozy and weird, without boundaries…not
as much delirious as delirium, if you understand my distinction.
For fans of Bjork, Miss Kitten, Cornelius, Massive Attack,
Fischerspooner, Stereo Total, Ladytron, the Gooom roster.
While the Knife’s management sets the table for world
domination (in the form of their acclaimed second effort,
Deep Cuts, an outright masterpiece which will be available
later this year) we are happy to offer the band’s serrated
electro-pop debut. This special UK edition features the original
11-track debut album, plus three tracks culled from their
soundtrack for the film Hannah med H.
