Doug
Powell - Day For Night
Doug Powell is the proverbial mad scientist, he is the exiled
alchemist, The Great And Powerful Oz behind his curtain, wailing
away at his digital workstation world where nothing is limited
and anything is possible, where we still find that his limitless
talent and skill far exceeds technology's ability to capture
his muse. How many artist/producers are equally deserving and
comfortable with comparisons as sacred as XTC’s Andy Partridge
and Powell’s idol and mentor Todd Rundgren? Doug Powell's
new full-length ‘Day For Night’ explores the baroque
hinterlands, where rock meets pop meets prog, meets something
musically indivisible. For fans of Jellyfish, The Beatles, Todd
Rundrgren, Queen, Adam Schmitt, Cheap Trick, Electric Light Orchestra,
and - why not? - you might even find a little Billy Squier-meets-The
Mars Volta in here… really! Doug Powell lives in Nashville,
this is his second album for Parasol, preceded by 'The Lost Chord'
and following releases for Mercury and Not Lame. Powell was a
member of Yep Rock supergroup Swag, with Ken Coomer (Wilco),
Robert Reynolds (Mavericks), and Jerry Dale McFadden (Sixpence
None The Richer). |
