Barbez
Mexico City Impressions b/w Somebody Get Rid Of The King
PS, US This 7" is limited to 400 copies and was designed, signed
and numbered by Barbez's Dan Kaufman. 100 are on red vinyl and 100
are on white vinyl. These two intense numbers were inspired by both
a pleasant trip through a small historic neighborhood in Mexico city
and the detestable Iraq war. Cover art was inspired by the abuse of
prisoners in Guantanamo Bay. Look for the next Barbez record sometime
soon on Tzadik. These two songs were recorded and mixed by the great
Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, John Zorn, Swans) at B.C. studios near the
Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY in 2006. They were mastered by Fred
Kevorkian (White Stripes) at Avatar Studios. The first song, Mexico
City Impressions, was conceived on a trip to Mexico City while strolling
through a lovely neighborhood called Coyoacan where Frieda Kahlo,
Leon Trotsky and Diego Rivera once lived some 60 years ago. There's
a kind of Parisian feeling to the neighborhood and to a little park
there with a carousel and people selling little bags of Mexican sweets.
It's an extremely vibrant place, full of Meso-American sounds and
colors floating about. This short pulsating song is my impression
of that vibrancy, color and heartbeat of Mexico City, and an homage
to the enchanting sound of the marimbas you hear everywhere in that
city. The second song, Somebody Get Rid of the King, is an angry lament
that comes out of a great fury at the Iraq War and especially at the
cruelty of the United States towards the detainees it holds in Guantanamo
and in the tortures it perpetrated at the Abu Ghraib prison. The subject
was close to my heart as I spent several years working as a researcher
with famed journalist Seymour Hersh on his book, Chain of Command,
which detailed these outrageous war crimes. The song begins in a slow
and mournful vein only to transform into a punk-rock blowout full
of rage.

Bishop Allen
The Broken String
PS, US 2006 was a big year for BISHOP ALLEN - The band recorded and
self-released an EP every month of the year. Fifty-eight songs later,
they completed one of the most ambitious recording projects in recent
memory. Their 2003 debut, "Charm School," was a hooky indie-pop
gem, but Bishop Allen's EP material proves far more sophisticated
and addictive. With the EPs, Bishop Allen's pop smarts sound timeless,
escaping the indie-pop idiom and revealing a language informed by
the Kinks, Dylan, and the Zombies. While it was in motion, the EP-a-month
project was the toast of the blogosphere, but it wasn't just an online
phenomenon; it garnered the band attention everywhere from the Wall
Street Journal to NPR's Song of the Day. This adulation all happened
without the benefit of a record label or publicist. Bishop Allen was
truly DIY, recording and releasing their own records and booking their
own tours. In early 2007, the band struck a partnership with DEAD
OCEANS and the first fruit of this relationship is Bishop Allen's
sophomore album, "The Broken String." If Bishop Allen made
a huge musical jump from the 2003 debut to the 2006 EPs, the band
made a quantum leap on "The Broken String." If Ed Sullivan
were alive today, Bishop Allen's story-songs would be ripe for prime
time. "The Broken String" is not just a great record by
Bishop Allen standards. It is poised to be the pop soundtrack to the
summer of 2007.

Blumm, F.S.
Meets Luca Fadda
PS, GERMANY For this record FS Blumm has written some of his most
light-hearted tunes, accompanied by NY trumpeter Luca Fadda. Wonderful
guitar and double bass lines are accompanied with processed toy instruments
and found objects. The new dimension of this album is the collaboration
with Luca Fadda who places digitally processed trumpets on top of
Blumm's material. These improvised elements add a new live feeling
to F.S. Blumm's music and creates a less melancholic mood than previous
records released on labels like Morr, Staubgold and Plop. There are
two 15 minute pieces on this album: one is `Ricke and Dina`, the other
is `Giorgi and Lucy´. `Giorgi and Lucy´ was inspired by
the last piece of a live set at the `epistrophy´ in New York
on December 1st 2006 where Luca Fadda and F.S.Blumm met on stage.
‚Ricke and Dina' is based on a performance done in front of
a childrens-audience during the presentation of a Peruvian fair trade
collection of children`s wear at the belleville-store in Berlin on
the afternoon of Oct. 1st 2005. This 3 hour live set has been carefully
recorded by Lupo.

Crow, Rob
Living Well
PS, US NOW AVAILABLE IN LIMITED EDITION VINYL FORMAT WITH FIVE NON-ALBUM
BONUS TRACKS!!! Somewhere between the breakneck touring to support
PINBACK'S breakthrough TOUCH AND GO debut, "Summer in Abaddon",
and the release of THE LADIES' debut album (his collaboration with
ZACH HILL of HELLA/TEAM SLEEP), the impossibly prolific Rob Crow had
an epiphany: SLOW DOWN. Not coincidentally, this revelation occurred
shortly after the birth of his first child (named Robertdale Crow
III, of course). Crow's time at home was suddenly more important than
ever. His family is all over "Living Well", his third solo
album: in the album title, the artwork (layered with dozens of family
photos), and the intensely personal lyrics which document Crow's courtship
with his wife, their marriage, and the subsequent birth of their first
child. Not only is "Living Well" Crow's finest solo album
by a country mile, it also transcends many of Pinback's most canonic
moments. It has the hooks and heart that he is famous for, with a
refined focus not seen in Crow's other projects.

Drift, The
(rmxs)
PS, US Following the 2005 release of their debut album, "Noumena,"
THE DRIFT set out to tour relentlessly in support of the album. Two
years later, the band is still on tour, and to keep up we're rolling
out a limited edition 12" compiling two side-long remixes from
FOUR TET and SYBARITE. Side A is a nine-minute jazz exploration, launching
The Drift's spacious, atmospheric compositions into deserted, zero-gravity
territory. Four Tet's remix is a stone cold classic, rich in the virtues
of patience and the payoff. Side B, conversely, is a dense, rhythmic
reworking of "Noumena's" most immediately accessible track,
"Invisible Cities." Sybarite gets to the point quick, and
fleshes out the deliriously funky details over the course of its emphatic
11-minute runtime. This 12" is strictly limited to 1,000 copies.

dedicated and careful listening. High volume and/or headphone use
is highly recommended for maximum experience - especially on the B-side,
which is focused on ultra low end bass pulses being slowly modulated
by bass frequencies well below the level of human hearing. Side A
is a detailed account of the emerging frequencies resulting from the
carefully crafted meeting of 7 sine waves. It is also highly recommended
that stereo listeners be seated at least 7 feet away from their speakers,
centered, with ears at speaker height. 500 made. 200-gram vinyl. Deluxe

Felten, Mike
Landfill
PS, US RECENT REISSUE. Mike played in Chicago rock bands through the
late 1960s & in the early 1970s he was a singer-songwriter who
shared stages w/ guys like Prine & Steve Goodman. He gravitated
to the country end of the spectrum in the late 70s & in the 1990s
he returned to playing w/ rock & blues bands. These songs span
3 decades, '1966 Summer School Blues is the oldest of the collection,
from a time when your '2 inches of hair" could get you kicked
out of school. 'Save Her Old Man is a Woody Guthrie type anthem of
being downsized in the 1980s rust belt. "Margie Got A Boyfriend

against 'Life Goes To Hell about not falling in love for the last

Garland, David
Noise in You
PS, US "Noise In You" is an album of gorgeous music about
noisy emotions: our desires and distractions, anxieties and passions,
love and loss, and the living hum of our bodies. It is DAVID GARLAND'S
8th album since entering New York City's downtown scene in the 1980s,
and it's the first to receive the wide distribution and attention
his music deserves. Garland is a multi-instrumentalist currently exploring
the sumptuous jangle of a 12-string guitar; he sings with a voice
that's deep, honest, and intimate. "Noise In You" is unclassifiable:
pop music that's both experimental and accessible, and is rich with
intricate layered harmonies and startling colors and textures. It
features the beautiful, sometimes mystical voices of a younger generation
of musicians -- SUFJAN STEVENS, MIRA ROMANTSCHUK (of MI AND L'AU),
DIANE CLUCK, VIKING MOSES, and DAVID DEPORIS -- together with guitars,
flute, piano, clarinet, sarode, oboe, and more. Noise In You unfolds
into a wondrous, subtly interconnected song cycle that sweeps you
up in its imaginativeness, drama, and sensual pleasure.

and composer take us back to the first half of the 90's, when he spawned

current name, with which he develops his personal version of a 60's
inspired psychedelic sound in cult albums that don't cross the Brazilian
borders, but do find an echo among an elite who whisper his name in
each other's ears: among his following we find Tom Zé, Caetano

Marmoset
Florist Fired
PS, US Five years is a long time. Five years is an excruciatingly
long time for a band like MARMOSET. Somehow this band has managed
to bottle into one album all of the idiosyncrasies and pathos that
have made them the critically-acclaimed band we all love. Merging
the Swell Maps-inspired tumultuous clamor of their debut EP "Hiddenforbidden",
the addictive two-minute anthems on "Today It's You", and
the epic joyful dirges from "Record in Red", "Florist
Fired" has it all. Although principal songwriter JORMA WHITTAKER
possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of Beatles-esque melodies, "Florist
Fired" leaves listeners with the unmistakable feeling that Marmoset
owes much more to a Richards-led Stones swagger- without the budget
or access to premium pharmaceuticals. In contrast to the seemingly
lecherous, self-loathing Whittaker gems, guitarist DAVE JABLONSKI
offers up detached ethereal odes like a man with his head truly in
the clouds. The idea of being a traditional, functioning band has
never quite caught on with Marmoset. Their live shows and behind-the-scenes
breakdowns are spiritually aligned with the likes of BRIAN JONESTOWN
MASSACRE; but unlike BJM, the music you hear from Marmoset is pure
sound vérité. No need for a ballyhoo project like "Dig!"-
although the tales Marmoset could tell would certainly make for riveting
viewing. Until the public is ready for such a trip into the madness,
tension and ecstasy that is Marmoset, "Florist Fired" will
serve quite nicely as their chariot on the road towards canonization.

Mr. Blotto
Cabbages & Kings
PS, US BACK IN STOCK! Mr. Blotto is a jam band band from Chicago.
They blend southern rock, folk, blues & country. They take the
Jam band asthetic into areas unfamiliar to the standard Jam Scene.
A well produced, well mixed, well executed kind of Americana that
actually owes far less to the Grateful Dead than one would expect.
The band sounds completely natural in their studio environs, having
nailed the elusive blend of acoustic & electric instrumentation
that most bands struggle w/when they try to set their work to tape.
It is thick, but not overbearing. Bits of imagery turn up through
the disc - Harleys, bunks, movie stars, & literary references
- that inform the album w/a cohesive intelligence. For fans of GOV'T

Sebadoh
Freed Man (ON SALE)
PS, US 52 tracks from the bubbling birth of the Doh. Pitchfork quizzes
Eric Gaffney, who says: ""The reissue contains songs and
versions (one each, not multiple) from the orignal cassette release...
from the LP version [i.e. the Homestead version], a few of my songs,
re-recorded, off The Freed Weed CD, and unreleased tracks, along with
the 2nd and 3rd 'singles' and part of the first split." Pitchfork
goes on: "Whatever the math, the extras and different mixes/takes
shift something once familiar into a gargantuan 79-minute lo-fi opera...
This Freed Man is overstuffed and weird, studded with some duds, and
entirely fitting. Part of the joy of early Sebadoh-- this collection
through Bubble and Scrape, aka the Gaffney years-- is the clash of
egos and brilliant songwriters. It's totally evident on this new version:
25 songs by Lou, 25 by Eric, and two covers, including a garage-punk
take on the Beatles "Yellow Submarine". Pretty telling,
right? To take it even further, the cassette was re-mastered at Abbey
Road Studios."

Starless & Bible Black
S/T
PS, US NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL! STARLESS & BIBLE BLACK make beautiful
spirited & catchy songs in the grand tradition of classic British
folk rockers PENTANGLE and JOHN & BEVERLY MARTYN straight on up
through the halcyon days of early 4AD records. On their debut self
titled outing, the diverse Manchester 3 piece brings to bear much
of the lively attitude, passion and rain, rain, rain of the old textile
city they've all come to call home for the last several years. The
result is a great collection of 11 songs-at once earthen and elevated
- that are given added mood & flavor by the charcoal vocals of
French chanteuse HÉLÈNE GAUTIER. The other contributing
members are the main rhythm men in the Manchester music scene - PAUL
BLAKESLEY on bass and BRIAN EDWARDS on drums - they have perfected
their craft playing with the likes of local heroes such as AIDAN SMITH,
JOHN STAMMERS and JANE WEAVER.

The Long Ryders, Danny & Dusty, Chris Cacavas & Junk Yard
Love, Magi, & Jack Waterson. His blistering guitar playing &
depth of songwriting speak volumes, both on stage & in the studio.
This is an assured & mature collection of performances of fine

of recognition w/ a hardly-diminishing sense of surprise & wonder.
Tom has allowed himself free rein, but seemingly as a consequence
of his own enthusiasm & excitement about the music hes making.

Anemones
Come Down Like A Cloud (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, US Grounded and propelled by the boom and tick of a lazy yet indefatigable
old-school drum machine, albeit augmented by occasional percussive
crash, rattle and stick of a genuinely human kind, ANEMONES are all
deep throb, jangled buzz, ambient drone, shiftless mumbling and, perhaps
most importantly, rolling waves of reverberation so pronounced and
significant as to be structurally necessary. Collected and combined,
these elements make a warm, oceanic, somewhat totalizing music that
operates inwardly, directed towards the uniquely fertile, semi-liquid
quasi-agriculture of the mind. Activated this way, mind as such is
here suspended, ala Descartes, as a kind epiphenomenal hazy feeling,
a ghost between the ears. Both in and out of the body, this half-consciousness
invokes a persistent, low-key dream-like psychedelic break in which
the normal world itself becomes hypnotically elusive and mysterious,
a pleasantly dislocating transformation enhanced by Anemones' minimalist,
somewhat lock-groove languorousness and nonchalantly sardonic theatricality.
But although often performatively 'druggy' in character, Anemones'
music isn't therefore 'about drugs' in the sense of being 'about being
made by means of drugs' or even 'about being made for or on behalf
of drugs', as if simply copying such important stylistic and conceptual
precursors as the Velvet Underground, Suicide, Spacemen 3 and the
Jesus and Mary Chain. Rather, Anemones produce a kind of 'post drug'
music, which here refers to a state of 'after-ness' and not prudish
abstention or dumbbell reform. In fact this is a specific aesthetic
strategy: after the drugs and drinks are long done and gone, sound
itself remains the psychotropic trigger par excellence. Hence, altering
perception, Anemones aim to turn listeners on ears first.

touring in support of that album with various revolving band members,
she chose the cream of the crop and formed a new group called Art
Belle, then changed it to Art In Manila (a nod to radio host Art Bell's
exodus to the Phillipines). On this release, the band flirts playfully
with genre wanderlust without ever abandoning cohesion. Moody slow-burners
follow four-to-the-floor rockers that butt up against serene ballads.

The Glass Bottom Boat (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 21ST)
PS, UK The fruits of a lengthy process involving an ever-changing
line-up featuring a revolving door of San Francisco musicians, this
is the long-awaited debut from Carta, now with settled personnel surrounding
core member Kyle Monday. Engineered by Beulah's Eli Crews and featuring
Sacha Galvagna and Jared Matt Greenberg (Charles Atlas) and Alexander
Kort (Subtle) amongst others, 'The Glass Bottom Boat' is a remarkably
accomplished album, as one might expect considering the pedigree of
those involved. Having found a home on eclectic UK label Resonant,
Carta's audience should be broad and widespread, with their overall
sound avoiding pigeonholes. The album is mostly instrumental, predominantly
downtempo but with constant emphasis on melody. The title track features
full vocals from Sarah Bell, and sounds like the best thing Espers
have ever recorded. Packaged in lavish six-panel digipak. Early review
from US site www.thesilentballet.com: 'It's rare that we see an album

Connors, Loren
The Hymn of the North Star (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, US Even before his 1978 debut guitarist LOREN CONNORS has been
continually redefining the American blues and folk guitar. "The
Hymn of the North Star," a 180 GRAM 500 EDITION LP, is the first
full-length vinyl release solely under Connors' name since 1990. Though
in the years since he has recorded over two dozen solo and collaborative
albums with Jim O'Rourke, John Fahey, Alan Licht, Christina Carter,
Jandek, Suzanne Langille, Thurston Moore, Keiji Haino, Darin Gray,
and others. Connors creates a tapestry of transparent and haunting
melodies that transform the Delta blues into a ghost-like apparition
that never settles as it pours from the soul. These six pieces show
Connors contemporary elegiac style at its peak of romantic minimalism.
Self recorded in his Brooklyn apartment "The Hymn of the North
Star" is saturated with subtle details and the barely there multi-tracks
of guitar and bass floating in the background. Guitarist ALAN LICHT
appears on one equally opaque piece recorded in Glasgow, Scotland.

Cope, Julian
You Gotta Problem With Me (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 31ST)
PS, UK Julian Cope's new album YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH ME (no question
mark) is another protest album in the tradition of his previous releases
PEGGY SUICIDE, JEHOVAHKILL, AUTOGEDDON, CITIZEN CAIN'D and DARK ORGASM.
Unlike most records by Cope's head-in-the-sand punk rock contemporaries
(almost all of whom he believes to be shirking their primary rock'n'roll
responsibility as cultural mouthpieces), YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH ME
deals primarily with such currently controversial, nay taboo issues,
as religion (our own and other peoples'), and the West's latest wave
of xenophobia and self-doubts brought on by a combination of the war
in Iraq, the so-called 9/11 bombings and the EEC's latest huge wave
of migrants from former Communist countries. YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH
ME also addresses all of Cope's other long-term gripes: corporate
greed and the destruction of Mother Earth, misogyny and homophobia,
and our apparent inability to address such essential matters due to
cultural ignorance and the glaring faults in our education system.
Yes, Lenny Bruce and Bill Hicks are dead, but Cope's still pissed
off enough to fly the flag for all three! However, while the songs
of YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH ME are even more lyrically hard-hitting
than those on DARK ORGASM, musically this new record ploughs a far
more traditional Copean furrow, returning the listener to insidiously
melodic post-punk songs in the JEHOVAHKILL style, many sparsely orchestrated
with Mellotron, wah-wah guitars, orchestral percussion and even lush
harmonies. Released on double-CD and 12" vinyl gatefold sleeve

4-Track Blues (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE TBA)
PS, US 4 song EP from some French kid(s?) making with the Memphis-sound
garage-punk racket. The title cut and "Contaminated" are
definitely 'Teenage Hate'-esque. B-Side has an Oblivians cover &
a slower-style Fatals-ish long-titled bloozer. Recording is pretty
rough. Scums stats: 600 copies on baby- blue swirled vinyl.

Roughs (ON SALE / PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE OCTOBER 2007)
PS, US Re-release of 'Roughs' (on Velvet Crusher Ric Menck's Bird
Song label) by former and founding member of the Los Angeles rock
band Sugarcult. Here, Ben's doing his very own laid-back soft-rock
thing, with a little dab of country & western, quite a departure
from Sugarcult's highly-toughted tautness. Leaving behind a life of
rock-n-roll excess, this enigmatic album qualifies as emancipation
and exorcism, a collection of intimate, personal songs about love
and self-destruction. Not so far afield from singer-songwriterly,
orch-popping Parasol faves like Ken Stringfellow and his Posies, Kevin
Tihista and his Red Terror, Jack Logan & Bob Kimbell, June &
The Exit Wounds, and The Velvet Crush.

The Ortolan (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 11TH)

glorious tunes, reminiscent of rock forefathers such as Neil Young,
Lindsey Buckingham, Peter Frampton, The Doobie Brothers, Tim and Jeff
Buckley, Elliott Smith, Wilco, and The Eagles, to name a few. An upbeat
pop-tinged album with larger than life percussion, jangling guitars,
and heart wrenching vocals that still maintains the crucial darkness
that so often taints the west coast folk and rock sound. Upbeat tales
of longing, loving, suicide, and loss. "Unbridled euphoria"

Epic 45
May Your Heart Be The Map (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 14TH
PS, UK It comes as no surprise to find that Epic45 grew up - and still
reside - in a small rural village in the heartland of the English
Midlands. Based around the nucleus of 25 year old school friends Ben
Holton and Rob Glover, Epic45 have had a varied and fluid line-up
since their debut in 1999, releasing a series of highly acclaimed
EPs and albums for labels such as Bearos, Awkward Silence and Where
Are My Records. Inspired by their surroundings, blissful childhood
summers and mysterious / inspiring walks the duo have been making
music for more than a decade. Their latest album May Your Heart be
the Map' sees Epic45 concentrating on a more bucolic sound, mixing
cyclical acoustic guitars, chiming reverbs and field recordings. The
album was originally inspired by 1970s British TV series 'Survivors',
a fictional account of a plague that wipes out most of the worlds
population. The idea of a near-deserted world in which people have
to rebuild their lives amid the ruins of the previous civilization
seemed strangely appealing. However, other themes crept in slowly,
the 'empty world' began to represent our lives now and inevitably
the duo started looking back to childhood and simpler, happier times.
The title is simply a rallying call to like minded people, an expression
of hope in an uncertain world. As with previous releases, May Your
Heart Be The Map features a collaboration with Antony Harding of July
Skies/Avrocar. This time, Harding contributes fragile vocals to the
track 'We Left Our Homes For Winter'. Whilst very unique in style
and approach, the music and ethos of this album may recall the youthfulness
of Leeds band Hood, the experimentalism of that great lost pop band
from the 1990's Disco Inferno, and is likely to delight fans of the
experimental label Type and their artists Helios, Xela and Goldmund.
But no doubt admirers of other classic British bands such as New Order,
The Durutti Column, Felt and The House of Love will also find much
to immerse themselves in and start working their way through Epic
45's enigmatic back catalogue.

2007 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, US Essentially a special one-off live set. He's concocted a work
of such stunning intricacy, verve & substance that it will surely
be amongst the favorites when this year's highlights are assessed.
What is so memorable about this collection of tracks is the way it
strikes the perfect balance between abstract experimentation &
full-on techno nirvana w/ out ever breaking stride or losing focus. There's
nothing brash or over-blown here, all the real action is nestled between
the beats, enticing yet unreachable, while the grooves he concocts
are all so earthy & raw that the kick drum functions as an alternative
rather than a necessity.

Hideout (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 11TH)
PS, US Their second full-length builds on the band's pretty, shoegazer
pop and richly textured space rock soundscapes by emphasizing powerful
rhythms and beautiful melodies that take the songwriting to a new
level. "Hideout" is more like a sonic galaxy that engulfs
you from all angles. You're enveloped by layers of reverb, loops,
and the interplay of male/female voices. A driving, forceful rhythm
section fuels a propulsive energy that gives an urgent quality to
much of the album, whereas other tracks convey a wistful melancholy.
It's this combination of ethereal atmosphere and strong rhythm that
makes the album wholly compelling and promises a powerful live experience.

Fine Arts Showcase, The
Sings Rough Bunnies (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 2007)
PS, SWEDEN Third album from Gustaf Kjellvander's Fine Arts Showcase,
and the follow-up to his 110% brilliant. The short version: TFAS covers
11 song by Swedish cult-twee-punk-lofi duo The Rough Bunnies. Highly
recommended. The long version: This is an album of many stories. Gustaf
Kjellvander and his friends in The Fine Arts Showcase have made a
covers album, entirely based on songs from the Swedish, rather unknown,
jangly, lo-fi band Rough Bunnies. Why is that? Let's make Gustaf himself
explain: "I was first introduced to Anna Vermina and her cousin
Frida, the founding members of Rough Bunnies and Inside Riot, through
mutual friends. Frida gave me a CD-R just days before they were about
to move to Berlin. About six months later I was looking for someone
to rent my spare room. I bumped into Frida by chance, who told me
she had moved back from Berlin to Malmö and needed a place to
stay - so she moved in. I was already smitten by Inside Riot at this
time, and when Frida played me the songs they had recorded in Berlin,
along with the Rough Bunnies record C-sides, it blew me away. I played
it to everyone who came over to my house. They became an obsession
that carries on to this day. I knew I wanted the Fine Arts Showcase
to cover their songs. The problem was that with a catalogue of songs
as amazing as theirs it was hard to pick just one, so I came up with
the idea that we should do an entire record instead (in the Merle
Haggard sings Jimmy Rodgers tradition). And here it is: a musical
love letter to two of my favorite songwriters, a celebration of the
pop geniuses of the Vermina family. Rough Bunnies (and their twin
group Inside Riot) have inspired me more than any other band this
side of the millennium and this record is my way of thanking them.
Rough Bunnies Saved My Life" - Gustaf Kjellvander

U.F.O's At The Zoo - The Legendary Concert In Oklahoma City [MVI album]
(PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 21ST)
PS, US PITCHFORK: "The Flaming Lips' first live document features
a gigantic UFO, an army of fans in alien and Santa costumes, streamers,
strobes, smoke machines, balloons, and massive amounts of confetti--
and that's just the first song. Most bands build up to this sort of
explosive spectacle, but for the Lips, it's a starting point. Their
shows are as much about spectacle as they are about music, which explains
the hybrid technology on UFOs at the Zoo: The Legendary Concert in
Oklahoma City. This document, which is neither simply an album nor
simply a concert film, is being issued as an MVI album, which means
it plays on DVD players but not CD players, and contains bonus digital
material." What Is MVI? With a higher storage capacity than a
standard CD, the Music Video Interactive Disc (MVI) contains new interactive

Giantess
s/t (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 28TH)
PS, US Formerly known as Canada's "The Battles". Giantess
is a blistering exercise in profundity, veering wildly from accelerated
rave-ups to introspective ballads that tug at the heart (often with
tongue planted firmly in cheek). Giantess delivers with the poetic
grandeur of Bryan Ferry or Graeme Downs at their absolute peak, and
with the muscle & pathos of The Soft Boys or Jesus of Cool-era
Nick Lowe. Giantess is first & foremost a relationship record
that relies on sentiments both ridiculously absurd & vastly astute.
A British influence looms large in Stephen Wood's brilliant songwriting-
comparisons to Ray Davies & John Lennon are commonplace -in much
the same way those pillars informed Robert Pollard's forays into songs.
Likewise, Giantess' erstwhile approach thrusts the genre forward with
liberal swaths of heart, wit, warmth, melody & raw power.

Good Life, The
Help Wanted Nights (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 11TH)
PS, US The songs on the band's fourth and finest LP were initially
meant as the soundtrack to a screenplay that Tim Kasher (vocals, guitar,
member of Cursive) started writing in 2006. These songs seemed to
describe moments of raw emotion more than chronicle a linear tale,
so the group kept them as close to their original incarnations as
possible, recording them true to form. The results are more stripped
down and threadbare than previous Good Life creations. Yet the songs
are also quite expansive, digging into deep emotional territory through
narrative and melody. Achingly beautiful and sharply astute, "Help
Wanted Nights" details human nature in the most honest way possible
- taking risks without regret.

New Astronomy (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, ITALY This album is dedicated to Giovanni Paneroni, amateur astronomer
and misunderstood genius (earth flat, sun small, etc). "A New

to date, the imaginary soundtrack for some of their most bizarre,
vivid dreams - obviously interspersed by the occasional nightmare.
It's made by grainy, hallucinated musical scores trying to depict
the beautiful, the scary, the annoying and the simply absurd inhabiting
dreams. It runs the gamut from ghostly ambient drones to brain-damaged
acoustic sketches, covering everything in between - furious guitar
freak-outs and a hommage to British 60's producer Joe Meek included.

Split (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 7TH)
PS, US ***LIMITED***For the second installment in the collaborative
series of split albums between TEMPORARY RESIDENCE LTD. and HYDRA
HEAD RECORDS, we find a match made in heaven with the ethereal, grandiose
dirge-pop of JESU splitting sides with stately, deserted majesty of
ELUVIUM. Already fans of each other's music, the two artists sought
to compliment each other and in the process stretched their individual
sounds to their outermost limits. Jesu shoots for the moon with a
trio of fuzzed-out tunes that owes more to first-wave British shoegaze
groups like SWERVEDRIVER and RIDE than Broadrick's own roots in GODFLESH
and NAPALM DEATH. It's a beautiful and brilliant evolution in Jesu's
already accomplished career. Eluvium aims for the heart of the sun
with his magnum opus, a three-part collaboration with JEREMY DEVINE
that stretches Eluvium's contemplative drones to a staggering twenty-one
minutes, in which time the song transforms from a lonely rattle to
a seismic, swirling storm of sound that grinds the piece to haunting
quiet.

The Throne Of The Third Heaven Of The Nations' Millennium General
Assembly (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 11TH)

by mounting tension and dramatic swells, coupled with an engaging
emotional resonance that lifts just as much as it illuminates. A collection
of rushing narratives that connect the individual struggle of each
of us to the death of the universe in a manner that's both intimate
and unshakably vital. "...Le Loup are going for the multi-layered
