These shows will be in support of the Deluxe Re-issue of Field Of Fire and also to preview Richard's new studio record The Radiant Monkey, which Parasol will release later this year. There will also be a mini set of Jimi Hendrix covers, performed as a trio under the guise of "The Jaime Neverts Show". Set lists will be provided to the audience, as souvenirs.

Grails "Burning Off Impurities" CD $11.00 (Temporary Residence)
Following soon after the critically praised "Black Tar Prophecies" collection on Important Records, Portland, Oregon's GRAILS return with their first proper studio album since 2004 release of Redlight. "Burning Off Impurities" - their debut for Temporary Residence Ltd. - makes good on the promise of those past releases in delivering an album that not only thrusts the group to new heights, but also pushes the instrumental rock genre forward for the first time in nearly a decade. An increased interest in psychedelic, ambient and world musics is most likely to blame for Grails' exploration of the lesser-traveled paths of modern music. Influenced in equal parts by Ash Ra Temple, Erkin Koray, Popol Vuh, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and dozens others, this is very likely the closest Grails will ever get to making a classic rock record; the kind of sprawling masterpiece that you savor for years before passing it on to your younger brother so he can repeat the process."

Jim's Pick: Best New Music from Scandinavia

My Midnight Creeps "Histamin" CD $15.00 (MMC-EMI Norway)
Second album of primal garage-rock from Oslo, Norway supergroup, featuring the guitarists from Madrugada and Ricochets, the follow up to their celebrated self-titled debut. Possessed by the vengeful specter of a half-century of wanton blues, sinister psychedelia, and gargantuan garage rock. On this voyage one encounters Willie Dixon, 13th Floor Elevators, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, The Stooges, The Sonics, Spacemen 3, The Gun Club, The Cramps, Union Carbide Productions, Nick Cave, along with a bluesier take on modern psych marvels like BRMC and Black Angels. In additon to those myriad influences and not so very surprisingly Histamin occasionally harkens back to The Soundtrack Of Our Lives’ mid-90s psych-rock Vikings era, encompassed by TSOOL first two albums and early EPs, lotsa sitars and castanets…and blazing saxophones…and howling Hammond organs....

PS, US They've been honing their unique, intensely stylized brand of DIY maximalism in the lofts, clubs & parking lots of NYC since '02. Like an ADD-afflicted Boredoms or Aphex Twin re-imagined as a high school marching band, their polyrythmic sound synthesized elements of hardcore, ambient, pop, crunk, noise, dance, psych & dance filtered through their distinct, largely self-taught aesthetic.

Alex Delivery
Star Destroyer
PS, US ALEX DELIVERY have gleefully exposed their myriad gifts and influences with their debut full-length "Star Destroyer," almost two years in the making. On it the New York-based quintet have demonstrated their penchant for the electro-organic, seamlessly blending the sharp and gentle, like a chain-gang draped in organza. You can hear the chattering of insects resonating from the inside of a kettle drum, and you can imagine this colossal robo-beast wobbling and waltzing down an abandoned carnival boardwalk. Sylphs soar across strings, occasionally descending to enjoy some wiggle-worthy poly-rhythms. These and many more colorful characters have climbed aboard the "Star Destroyer."

Antiguo Automata Mexicano
Kraut Slut
PS, MEXICO Angel Sánchez Borges, the man behind AAM (Antiguo Automata Mexicano) takes techno to the next level with his second album and first release with Static Discos. Previously AAM released the infamous Microhate album on Germany's Background label. Inspired by German kraut and space rock, minimal techno and screwed up digital antics, AAM's Kraut Slut is the stuff of wicked dance dreams. Angel Sánchez Borges also records as Seekers Who Are Lovers on the Soundsister label. In a recent interview on URB Magazine, Borges says his secret to the AAM sound is his love for "My Bloody Valentine, a gentle way of dealing with strange layers of sounds. I want people to dance to these noisy grooves". Pitchformedia recently described his music in "the glitch/dub/minimal techno vein, with carefully constructed rips and blips stretched across a wide, white sonic canvas".

Arctic Monkeys
Brianstorm
PS, US This pre-album single serves to prepare you for the coming onslaught that is the rocking brilliance of their new release, "Favourite Worst Nightmare". Like some cruel bait-and-switch, this record opens with a lovely string quartet before a rude intrusion of frantic drums and squealing guitars send them packing (apparently inspired by The Jesus Lizard no less). The second track, "Brianstorm" barrels out of the gate with an itchy energy. "Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend" is a taut, suspenseful track featuring a guest verse from Dizzee Rascal.

Asa Irons & Swaan Miller
S/T
PS, US This record is forever. After listending to it you'll realise that it doesn't matter that Asa Irons plays in Witch with J Mascis as well as the acclaimed folk outfit Feathers. This record needs no associations and it's songs are so timeless that they feel as if they've been passed around for generations and hardly need any recording medium at all. This is the first release from Asa Irons and Swann Miller but it sounds like they've lived within each others voices for a million years. Asa's deep-breath-voice lays down a mossy hill for Swann's beautiful voice to tread upon. His guitar work is simply intricate and his fingerpicking perfectly suits the way their voices combine to become one. This record always has been and always will be. This record is forever. "After spending years in New Hampshire and often Nova Scotia, I began writing songs about my Northeastern window through which I view the world. Most of the pieces represent strong fundamentals in my life such as living without comfort resources like electricity and running water, the building trends of carpentry and masonry with which I make my living, and the slow paced rural life in which I grew up. The land of Northeastern North America is very important to me and compelled me to describe it in the form of music. Many people in my life were musicians - my father, cousins, friends - so I had plenty of good examples to pull from and think about. My style of song writing, I believe, comes from the influence of these loved ones combined with certain deep-rooted melodies or images from books that have stuck with me. (Such as sound tracks of old cinema and authors like Tolstoy and Carolyn Chute.) My older sister's art work has also had a tremendous effect on the way I see the world. Many of her primary subjects revolve around various representations of our own home place and the people who inhabited this and the other woods houses in which we grew up. One of the people connected to me through music and lifestyle is Swann Miller. She is the daughter of a man who was a good friend of my father's. Through the '70's our fathers built houses together around N.H. and also played a lot of music. So, I have known Swann my whole life and perhaps it was inevitable that we made music together. When I reached her house in the winter of 2003, I had just had my notebook of songs stolen along with other things. I decided to try to catalogue all I could remember by practicing them. Swann practiced with me. On a whim, her boyfriend - who works as a sound engineer - recorded the two of us singing in an abandoned yellow women's bathroom in the basement of the building where they lived. It all took about an hour and a half including set up of mics, recording, and breaking down. I borrowed a twenty year old Guild guitar from a friend of a friend which was very similar to my father's guitar that I grew up with. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to help capture Swann's beautiful voice and continue the music of our families. The album is a quick glimpse of a world view from Southern New Hampshire through the voices of two old friends whose fathers were friends before them." Asa Irons

Badgerlore
We Are All Hopeful Farmers, We Are All Scared Rabbits
PS, US BADGERLORE is the great tribal council of the so-called "Freak Folk" movement. The supergroup features Rob Fisk (DEERHOOF, 7-YEAR RABBIT CYCLE) and Ben Chasny (SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE, COMETS ON FIRE), with Tom Carter (CHARALAMBIDES), Pete Swanson (YELLOW SWANS), Glen Donaldson (BLITHE SONS, JEWELED ANTLER) and Liz Harris (GROUPER). Together they proceed with masterful nuance and inexorable tension; "We Are All Hopeful Farmers, We Are All Scared Rabbits" is the sound of effigy mounds slowly rousing from prehistoric slumber.

Bates, Martyn
Imagination Feels Like Poison
PS, US 1st U.S. issue of a full length solo lp by the stunniing vocalist & founding member of EYELESS IN GAZA. Originally released in 1997, it is primarily a collection of songs that are brightly bittersweet, conjuring up ghostly & vivid invocations of folk/psych. Voice, and suprisingly, banjo are the principal instruments that carry the music, fleshed out by the inventive use of Autoharp, percussion, whistles & pump organ.

Black Tie Revue
Code Fun
PS, US Their hooky keyboard driven power-pop has been drawing ravenous fans everywhere they play. Often compared to power pop bands likeThe Only Ones, The Wildhearts & The Records, the band is everything great about being young, geeky & American: adictively hooky, powerful, flagrantly irresponsible three-chord pop songs, loud guitars & new-wave keyboards, & a whole lot of jumping around.

Blow, The
Poor Aim: Love Songs (reissue)
PS, US "Poor Aim: Love Songs" is resilient electro-pop music that can be lovingly devoured by people of all ages and coolness factors. Already, the songs have fallen into a beloved repeat-play position in many a heart (and cell phone, as ring tones!). In their experiment, the two challenged each other with stringent requirements: JONA insisted that the rhythms couldn't be redundant; KHAELA guaranteed that the lyrics held sentences worth repeating. They succeeded. The songs are catchy as hell, and rise to meet all of the duo's snobby music standards. With sing-along-when-you-think-you're-alone types of refrains, it's as if the oldies station on the car stereo is playing at the same time as the urban party music station, with the occasional interfering sonic sway of an eighties keyboard refrain. That mash of sounds would come closest to describing "Poor Aim's" productional pitch, the sound of feeling fun and desperate and bravely romantically unsuccessful all at once; easy listening for difficult feelings.

Booji Boy High
Doubleshaw
PS, US A new project from the musical tag team duo, Georgios Panayiotou & Mother Markzbow of HOT CHIP. Side A "Doubleshaw" is an anthem of love & disbelief for dear friend of theirs, a party animal of great intelligence & wit. It JUMPS! Side B "Twist Myself" again is about legal highs & super hero hulk out lows. Both sides are pop masterpieces!

PS, US New York based quartet of Matthias Bossi, Joel Hamilton, Carla Kihlstedt, & Tony Maimone. Feat. CARLA BOZULICH, MEGAN REILLY, JON LANGFORD, WATT, TOM WAITS & DAVID THOMAS with no end to the scraping & swirling guitars, soaring string arrangements, rupturing bass, & plate-shattering drums. Sure to be one of the most ear-opening releases of 2007

Book Of Knots, The
S-T
PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "The Book Of Knots' self-titled metal opus is a concept album about the sea. But don't expect any prog rock opera cheese. Book of Knots is a noisy, bludgeoning rock record, full of feedback, improvisation and bitter currents -- like Mike Watt's Contemplating the Engine Room played by Queens of the Stone Age. The tumultuous record ranges from the oddly Björk-ish "Tugboat" to the psych, hesher rock of "Crumble" and Jon Langford's downright catchy piece of slithering melancholia "Back on Dry Land"." It's a demented and expansive narrative that takes at least multiple listens to make sense of, but the cinematic scope is apparent from the beginning. While Book of Knots is a bit too difficult for everyone, those who enjoy digging deeper into the layers of an epic rock album will be more than satisfied." (Charles Spano)

Boonaraaas!!!
5 Steps Ahead
PS, US While most musical groups are taking two steps back, their thrust is most definitely forward. They bash out their heart & soulpoppin' sonic nuggets using vintage equipment but the noise they make is very much NOW! A treat for the ears & the eyes, no matter what your persuasion. Trich's sassy singing & bass attitude along w/ Christina's command of the big beat provides a rockin' solid foundation. Laura's Danelectro action blends w/ Tine's rhythm licks to create a fuzz-infused wall of sound that is so direct that you'll wonder what the heck just hit you.

Butler, Brandon
Lucky Thumbs
PS, US The name Brandon Butler may not be familiar, but any fan of indie-rock and emo is probably aware of Butler's previous projects, Boys Life and Farewell Bend. Butler then emerged with his project Canyon, where his unique vocal styles took a more country and folk-based rock sound. Now Butler has released his 2nd solo effort, and Lucky Thumbs shows a mature, strong songwriter with an extremely unique voice.

Callahan, Bill
Woke on a Whaleheart
PS, US New solo album from Smog mastermind Bill Callahan. PREFIX MAG: "Like Howe Gelb's 'Sno Angel Like You from last year, Whaleheart uses the conventions of traditional American genres to disguise slightly skewed songwriting. Strangely, the incorporation of these motifs doesn't render his work any more conventional. Instead, it's as if Callahan wandered into the wrong studio but taught the players his songs anyway. That sense of uneasy displacement, though, is exactly what makes Woke on a Whaleheart a fitting addition to Callahan's body of work."

PS, US You may have heard some of these songs on Music is My Girlfriend or Lost Music eps - these are completely new recordings and sound amazing. Andreas Hagman returned to his native Örebro, Sweden in 2000, where he began recording dreamy pop, jangly guitar and vocals that reflect a tender, soul-baring honesty.

"Precious songs, in the Sarah Records vein, between a super romantic dreampop and a dreamy and tender melodies jangle pop" - Mira El Péndulo

Cold Bleak Heat
Simitu
PS, US "Simitu" is the second album from COLD BLEAK HEAT, the dream-team, east-coast avant jazz line-up of alto/tenor saxophonist PAUL FLAHERTY (DREAM/AKTION UNIT), drummer CHRIS CORSANO (VAMPIRE BELT, SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE), trumpeter GREG KELLEY (NMPERIGN, HEATHEN SHAME), and acoustic bassist MATT HEYNER (NO NECK BLUES BAND, TEST). While explosive as their 2005 debut, "Simitu" brings a melancholic, even sensitive feel to these improvisations. Yet, no need to worry about these four wipin' tears on their sleeves. CBH wages between the melodic centers/ghostly solos of Flaherty/Kelley and loose, downhill, free blow outs you'd expect, all while mainting the grand swell of a hardcore jazz symphony. Even as complex and multi-paced beats sink into bowed-drones and vocal hollers, focused lyricism remains the returning leader. Features liner notes and drawings by Christina Carter (CHARALAMBIDES).

Courrier, Kevin
Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica
PS, US <p>In the spring of 1969, the inauspicious release of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band's Trout Mask Replica, a double-album featuring 28 stream-of-consciousness songs filled with abstract rhythms and guttural bellows, dramatically altered the pop landscape.
Yet even if the album did cast its radical vision over the future of music, much of the record's artistic strength is actually drawn from the past. This book examines how Beefheart's incomparable opus, an album that divided (rather than) united a pop audience, is informed by a variety of diverse sources. Trout Mask Replica is a hybrid of poetic declarations inspired by both Walt Whitman and the beat poets, the field hollers of the Delta Blues, the urban blues of Howlin' Wolf, the gospel blues of Blind Willie Johnson, and the free jazz of Ornette Coleman. This book illustrates how Trout Mask Replica was not so much an arcane specimen of the avant-garde, but rather a defiantly original declaration of the American imagination.

Deerhunter
Flourescent Grey EP
PS, US Four new songs recorded while mixing Cryptograms. A snapshot of what direction the band might explore next? Probably not. This EP arrives on the heels of a well received sophomore LP, Cryptograms. EP functions in many ways as an epilogue to both the LP and the accompanying well-reported anxiety surrounding it's creation. The band now has a clean slate to explore something entirely new in the future. Four songs plus video for "Strange Lights". DOA: "The Flourescent Grey EP basically picks up where the album left off, combining the droning atmospherics of space-rockers like Loop and Spacemen 3 with the kind of Martin Hannett style production and drumming of Unknown Pleasures-era Joy Division."

Dolly Varden
Panic Bell (ON SALE)
PS, US Fans of George Harrison, The Volebeats, Fleetwood Mac, Joe Henry, The Stones and The Shins will find safe harbor here... Chicago's Dolly Varden marks their triumphant return with The Panic Bell. After a three-year hiatus marked by solo records, art exhibits, and raising babies, the record ushers in a new focus for the band. Fronted by harmony-happy husband and wife duo Steve Dawson and Diane Christiansen, the songs on The Panic Bell are filled with images of Dawson's struggle to hold onto his band and his hope in a world numbed by the distortion and violence of "shock and awe." The Panic Bell brings new rawness and energy to Dolly Varden's sound, while still maintaining their melodic strengths and top-notch songwriting. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "This band have been compared to artists like Lucinda Williams and Marshall Crenshaw for their deliberate blend of pop and alt.country. This is quite apparent on the mid-tempo, pretty and powerful opener Complete Resistance. Resistance to this particular song would be futile, as it instantly grows on the listener... It's rare that the words and music come together so perfectly, but that is the case with much of this record. Draper, Linda
Keepsake
PS, US Linda Draper's much anticipated fifth studio long player, "Keepsake" brings you along for 10 beautifully crafted songs - it continues where her last LP, 2005's "One Two Three Four" (produced by Kramer) left off. The album marks her first self-produced effort, along with co-producer Major Matt Mason (Adam Green, Kimya Dawson, Jeffrey Lewis etc.) and was recorded at Olive Juice Music Studios in New York City. The CD presents Linda in an intimate setting accompanied throughout by stand-up bass, piano, violin, cello, slide guitar, touches of percussion and xylophone - the focus always being the pure beauty of Draper's vocal performance. "A shining light of excellence...a delightful voice that immediately enchants." (Tasty, UK)

Eames Era
Heroes & Sheroes
PS, US The bands sophomore record is so brazenly hooky, with songs that are so totally fleshed out with memorable sing-a-longable instantly familiar melodies, chugging guitars, ba-bas, harmonies & handclaps, you could forgive it for what it lacks in innovation. In fact, Heroes highlights are some of the best chick-pop, and wholeheartedly deserve to sit amongst your Go-Gos greatest hits CD, Blondies Parallel Lines & the last Mates of State record too. The first single, "When You were a Millionaire", is currently featured as the theme song on MTV's new show, "I'm from Rolling Stone". Also had a song featured on Grey's Anatomy soundtrack.

Electric Soft Parade
No Need to be Down-Hearted
PS, US US debut for multi-instrumentalist brothers, who are also known as The Brakes, and compared to everyone from The Band to Stereolab, with a menagerie of lo-fi folk, thumping blues and free-form psych-rock, whilst always retaining a pop shimmer. MOJO: "Full of regret, hard-won wisdom and DIY pop artistry No Need To Be Downhearted transcends bog-standard indie to build a world of sophisticated melody and ingenious arrangements, encompassing Broadway gumption, Tahiti 80-style sunshine pop, and exquisitely lachrymose minimalism. Mutes brass, Ben Folds Joanna, ELO synth showers and Left Banke harmonies belie the record's home-studio genesis, plonking E.S.P. in the van of a modest progressive pop renaissance recently hinted at by Field Music and The Earlies."

PS, US New album from former Hidden Agenda artists, now on Friendly Fire. For 'New Beleivers' the band would recall the soul of Dusty Springfield, the power of Patti Smith, the big sound of Phil Spector and the warped-pop sensibilities of The Breeders on an album that brought vocalist Renée LoBue to the forefront. his new Elk City calls upon a wide palette of influences: 1960's psychedelic bands such as Love, the girl group sounds of classic Motown, 1970's proto-punk heroes John Cale and Television, and 1980's alternative rock such as The Smiths and The Pixies. Familjen
Det Snurrar I Min Skalle
PS, SWEDEN The music is joyus. Not to mention, deceptively simple. Run a three-note arpeggio through a phaser and there's your refrain. Naturally, there's a bit more to it than that, but the essence of Familjen's pop/electronica sound is uncomplicated fun. Perhaps the lyrics tell a completely different story, but hey - I don't speak Swedish so I don't really care. Familjen makes warm electronica. Sounds like the Hacienda in springtime, Mylo on downers, Rex the dogs soundsystem and A guy called geralds dreams. It makes us all fuzzy and fightable inside.

PS, US Armed w/ a rather large arsenal of obscure samples culled from his life as well as the entire Chicago Public Library sound collection, he went to work. Alone in a near-downtown basement apartment (sometimes in his bedroom closet), his mind took a very long trip, delving into the under-explored territory where electronic music, hip hop, & orchestral pop meet. Taking cues from The Beach Boys & Burt Bacharach to The Postal Service & Public Enemy, he's conceived, collected, cut & pasted, orchestrated & created a piece of work that is large & complex yet utterly personal & easily accessible.

Freelovebabies
Home Improvement for Condemned Buildings
PS, UK This is Will Carruthers' 2nd solo LP as the freelovebabies, and while he's done much of the work, he is anything but alone. The blood, sweat and tears of people he's held in high regard over the years both personally and professionally fuel this record. It's no secret where Will has come from and where he's been, his contribution to a handful of influential Spacemen 3 records and the seminal debut from Spiritualized, Laser Guided Melodies are all part of his personal history. Eyes forward and the present very much at hand, this record stands on it's own two feet and commands that you remember; the man makes music every bit as much as the music makes the man. 'Sky Blue Feeling' settles on high, with that signature bass
billowing down and crystalline guitar licks piercing through like so many shafts of light. A whisper soft bit of drumming and otherworldliness bring the opening track to a gentle close. 'On The Drip' is the most nostalgic offering on the record and is the most obvious show of Willie's proud musical past. Rooted in the earliest and most revered days of Spiritualized, it is both a tribute and a show of how many aces he's got up his sleeve. The vocals are raw and raucous, the bass climbs high, spurred on by an unrelenting beat, as he begs 'Gimme something fuckin' new." Fragile is the only way to describe 'Too Soon to Say Goodbye' it stirs with a haunting intensity, lone piano melody, and an achingly strung out vocal that bears a Lennon-esque quality at his most shattered. Freelovebabies also features Mark Refoy of Slipstream (ex Spiritualized), Jonny Mattock (ex Spacemen 3/Spiritualized drummer), and Kevin Cowen (Spacemen 3/Darkside).

Grails
Burning Off Impurities
PS, US Following soon after the critically praised "Black Tar Prophecies" collection on IMPORTANT RECORDS, Portland, Oregon's GRAILS return with their first proper studio album since 2004 release of Redlight. Influenced in equal parts by ASH RA TEMPEL, ERKIN KORAY, POPOL VUH, BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, and dozens others, this is very likely the closest Grails will ever get to making a classic rock record; the kind of sprawling masterpiece that you savor for years before passing it on to your younger brother so he can repeat the process.

PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Any Average Joe rock dude could reissue an out-of-print EP they recorded in 1986, and the same sort of guy could easily add a few bonus tracks to boost the value of the package. Richard X. Heyman, however, is no Average Joe -- he's perhaps America's greatest unsung hero of power pop, a songwriter of uncommon talent and intelligence, and a one-man rock band without peer. So when Heyman decided to resurrect his long-gone Actual Size EP twenty years after it first hit the racks, he went for the grand gesture -- Actual Sighs features the six tunes from that aged 12" in their original sequence, preceded by fourteen (yes, fourteen) previously unavailable songs, turning a fleshed-out single into an epic..." Johnson, Calvin And The Sons of The Soil
S/T
PS, US In 2003, K recording artists KHAELA MARICICH (THE BLOW) AND JASON ANDERSON had a vision. "What if Calvin Johnson played all his best songs from over the years, with a band of real music-making people?" This was their vision, and they decided to make it happen. Jason formed a band of other K music stalwarts that included KYLE FIELD (LITTLE WINGS) on bass with ADAM FORKNER (YUME BITSU, VERSION) and Jason sharing the guitar and drum playing duties. Dubbed by Jason the SONS OF THE SOIL, they set out to modernize the primitive. Khaela designed a graphic image that perfectly captured the Sons of the Soil's transcendental vibe. A tour was arranged that crossed paths with other fine Olympia types, including REBECCA PEARCY and MIRAH. Songs were chosen that spanned the years and various combos, including songs originally recorded by HALO BENDERS ("Love Travels Faster"), DUB NARCOTIC SOUND SYSTEM ("Booty Run") and the GO TEAM ("Sand"). Rehearsals commenced, and then it was off across the Western United States for a rollicking, rockin' good time.

Mary Onettes, The
S/T
PS, SWEDEN Long awaited debut album from Sweden's best new band. These ten songs sound somewhat like a modern version of A-ha dressed in black mixed with early The Jesus and Mary Chain on an arena. We love every little second of it. It took them two years and three labels to get here, but if that's what they needed in order to produce what must be one of the finest Swedish debut album ever, it was worth all the wait. Everything about this album is just perfect. From the confident and obvious choice of simple calling it The Mary Onettes to the epic artwork. The classic ten songs format where each song has it's obvious place on the album. First-rate songs all the way dressed in production perfectly balancing between futuristic and timeless. Biography Although development are crucial for a band one thing have remained the same, the songs. The band revolves around Philip Ekströms song writing and although some songs have been stripped down, rebuilt or even thrown away they have kept coming. Things started happen for The Mary Onettes in spring 2004, signing with a brand new label the future couldn't look brighter. Six months later the band lost the deal without being given the chance to release anything. Eight months of despair followed until Sony/BMG decided to sign up the band up for an EP. The debut was released may 2005 and didn't make big fuzz to the main crowd, although it got great reviews. A couple of months later the band found themselves without a recording contract once again. Instead of splitting up or getting depressed they started building a music studio and plans took form to start an own label and release everything themselves. A demo cd to Swedish indie label Labrador changed those plans. For the first time the band felt that they had a label that understood them and their music. Signing for a full length album in spring 2006 led to more frequent studio sessions and recording in their new built studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. Humans don't believe in stagnation, it's in our nature to develop, evolve and invent. The Mary Onettes started out in 2000 and when looked at in retrospect, many things have changed. Starting out as a passionate, yet naive rock band from a small town and therefore a lot to prove, the band have managed to stay together because of their love for music and each other. It takes time for a band to develop a sound and to create that special bond between members in a rock group. Six years on, that development is still in progress.

Selling Points: SXSW shows, full radio promotion with AAM, multiple reviews in national print, free downloads from spin.com. new media campaign with filter. Multiple US tours. Overview: Spring of 2006 saw Mezzanine Owls travel from Los Angeles to record with Andy LeMaster (Bright Eyes, Azure Ray, R.E.M.) in Athens, GA. These sessions produced Slingshot Echoes, a dreamy, noisy collection of songs featuring dense layers of guitars and keyboards washing over driving beats. Reviews: "A haunting Jesus and Mary Chain rattle filtered through an anthemic guitar line as driven as something from another avian outfit, Doves..." - Spin "this four piece builds luxuriant canopies of british heart racers doves and elbow but bearing the intriguing twist of wounded vocals landing somewhere between dean wareham and mercury rev." - San Francisco Guardian "the Pixies re-imagined by Lush" - bullz-eye "soaring pop melodies" - usounds "melodic, memorable pop music that is, at times, slightly reminiscent of The Tyde." (5/5) - babysue "Vocalist Jack Burnside recalls a softer, less dramatic Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes... a quiet stunner of a debut" - sound as language "These guys remind me a bit of what Interpol would sound like if they weren't trying to be Joy Division. It's a sort of shoegazey, downtempo'd post-punk" - I guess I'm floating "Indie Jayhawks meets shoegazer Ride/Jesus Mary Chain...your stereo will thank you." - The Tripwire"Also spent a lot of time with: the driving, layered guitars of Mezzanine Owls' "Slingshot Echoes..." - LA Times Best of 2006

Midnight Movies
Lion the Girl
PS, US Midnight Movies first made waves in 2004 with their eponymous debut, about which the LA Times called "undeniably cinematic". After a line-up change and a new label, they return with this release. The California landscape serves as a perfect backdrop for "Lion The Girl". The hypnotic vocals of Gena Olivier cut a seductive path through the layers of lovely psychedelic landscapes. The OC Weekly appropriately crowned Olivier with having "all the beauty and talent of a modern-day Grace Slick." Produced by Steve Fisk (Screaming Trees, Nirvana, Pell Mell). /// AVERSION: "Midnight Movies refines the spaced-out atmospheres of its self-titled debut (2004, Leftwing) and makes room for hooks and harmonics we'd expect from a super-modern guitar-pop band... Owing a little bit to The Jesus and Mary Chain and the faintest debt to Lush, Midnight Movies finds a rich, dense and compelling brand of twilight pop on Lion the Girl."

Wires Reply
PS, US The three members of NAMELESSNUMBERHEADMAN grew up together in a small town in Oklahoma, but the three of them (Jason Lewis, Andrew Sallee and Chuck Whittington) ultimately settled in Kansas City and have been playing, writing and recording as NNHM for about six years. Having released two prior full-length albums since July 2002 that have been received well, but it's with this ST. IVES release that they make their grand statement as artists. With "Wires Reply," they join the afternoon drive between your ears where Sparklehorse covers Skylarking in its entirety, where Pinetop Seven and Tortoise make 4-track tapes as teenagers, and The Notwist backs up Robert Pollard in the beautiful headspace of blissful lo-fi stereo. Cohesive in sound and vision, "Wires Reply" is a dream that doesn't jump around and confuse you, but calms and guides you through a hazy panoramic photograph. This is a balmy summer in Midwestern America. This is the smell of the trees and the street at the end of the longest days. This is a genuine, honest celebration but, all the same, it is fighting the sinking feeling that there is no one left to believe anymore. The guitars buzz. The drums crack. The mellotrons whir. The three sing at the top of their lungs.

As with all St. Ives releases, "Wires Reply" is a VINYL LIMITED EDITION RELEASE (to just 300 copies). The artwork is lovingly hand-wrought by the band in a celebration of folk art and the return to care in record making.

Ocean/Conifer
Split LP
PS, US This split 12" release is limited to 1000 copies and pressed on rust and grey color vinyl. It is packaged in a screen printed mylar jacket with a screen printed mylar insert and a screen printed paper insert. Cover artwork is of a 19th century statue located at the center of Portland Maine, the dramatic coastal home of both groups. This is the sound of a musical brotherhood entirely unique to Ocean & Conifer. Over the years Ocean and Conifer have shared vans, stages, members, practice spaces, apartments, beers, a city and a kindred musical spirit. In a lot of ways it's a shock that that split hasn't happened already but perhaps it was so obvious that nobody noticed that it needed to happen. Sometimes the truth is right beneath your nose. With their original drummer back in the line-up, since Eric Brackett left to focus his energy on Ocean, Conifer has re-enlisted their original drummer Nate Nadeau. With Nate back in the group they're heavier, tighter and more united than ever before. They've toured and player with Mono, Black Dice, High On Fire, Asva, Mouth Of The Architect and many more. Summer of 2006 saw them embark on an ambitious 26 city tour. Ocean's 20 minute epic was recorded in the same sessions that birthed their next album, currently untitled, for Important. Containing all of the epic minimalist intensity and robust
heaviness that has gained them international attention, The Undoing is a whole new level.

Oliveros, Pauline
Accordion & Voice
PS, US Pauline Oliveros (b. 1930) is an accordionist and composer who currently resides in Kingston, New York. Her instrument is tuned in Just Intonation and she often includes it in her meditative improvisational music. Her music is not meditative in the sense that it is intended for listening to while meditating, rather each piece is a form of meditation, such as her aptly titled Sonic Meditations. A central figure in post-war electronic art music, Oliveros is one of the original members of the San Francisco Tape Music Center (along with Morton Subotnick, Ramon Sender, Terry Riley, and Anthony Martin), which was the resource on the U.S. west coast for electronic music during the 1960s. The Center later moved to Mills College, where she was its first director, and is now called the Center for Contemporary Music. Oliveros often improvises with the Expanded Instrument System, an electronic signal processing system she designed, in her performances and recordings. "Accordion and Voice was the first of my recordings as a soloist. I was living in an A-frame house in a meadow just below Mount Tremper at Zen Mountain Center. I had a wonderful view of the graceful saddle mountain top. When away on a performance trip I would imagine the mountain as I played Rattlesnake Mountain. I followed the feelings and sensations of my many experiences of the mountain - the changing colors of the season, the breezes and winds blowing through the grasses and trees. Horse Sings From Cloud taught me to listen to the depth of a tone and to have patience. Rather than initiating musical impulses of motion, melody and harmony I wanted to hear the subtlety of a tone taking space and time to develop. The tones linger and resonate in the body, mind, instrument and performance space. My thanks to Important Music for bringing these pieces to be heard again." - Pauline Oliveros 2007

Oliveros, Pauline
The Wanderer
PS, US The Wanderer is based on a single modal scale (B C# D D# E F# G#) and rhythmic modes based on a meter consisting of 3/4 and 3/8. Part I, Song, is intended to explore the unique resonant qualities of accordion reeds through long sounds. Subtle variations come about from differences in tuning and air pressure. Part II, Dance, demonstrates the sharp accenting power of the accordion bellows in a mixture of cross rhythms characteristic of jigs, reels, batucadas, Bulgars, klezmer forms, Cajun dances, and music of other diverse cultures. The Wanderer was composed in November, 1982 especially for the Springfield Accordion Orchestra, directed by Sam Falcetti. This recording documents The Wanderer's world premiere, as it was performed 27 January, 1983 at Marymount Manhattan Theatre. The orchestra consists of twenty accordions, two bass accordions, and five percussion, with Pauline Oliveros as soloist, Sam Falcetti conducting. Horse Sings From Cloud, written in 1975, is one of Oliveros' best known works. Like most of her Sonic Meditations, it can be performed vocally and/or instrumentally, solo or in collaboration. A solo version of Horse Sings From Cloud has been recorded on Accordion & Voice. An early version of the score reads, "Sustain a tone or sound until any desire to change it disappears. When there is no longer any desire to change the tone or sound, then change it." This time, Horse Sings From Cloud is performed in ensemble. Joining Pauline Oliveros on bandoneion are Heloise Gold on Harmonium, Julia Haines on accordion, and Linda Montano on concertina. This quartet version incorporates the microtonal differences in tuning of the selected instruments, creating shimmering reed sounds somewhat similar to the shimmering of a Balinese gamelan.

Original Silence
First Original Silence
PS, US A monster is born, a clash of the the titans! The new band of THURSTON MOORE (SONIC YOUTH), TERRIE EX (THE EX), JIM O'ROURKE, MATS GUSTAFSSON (THING), PALL NILSSEN-LOVE (THING), & MASSIMO PUPILLO (ZU). Recorded live on the OS Italian tour, September 2005 in Teatro Arisoto, Reggio Emilia, Italy, to be more specific. This is the first in a series of recordings from OS. Musically one can hear the obvious influences from early Sonic Youth & The Ex mixed with the Scandinavia free-jazz. But you can hear their many influences from Black Flag, to drone rock, to Albert Ayler, to Boredoms, to noise, punk, Dead C, Merzbow & 60s minimalism. This is 100% improvised rock. A monumental, raw and harsh beautiful out- rock masterpiece. Artwork by Kim Hiorthoy

Part Chimp
CUP
PS, US Less than a year ago, PART CHIMP toured the United States bearing $99 guitars duct taped together, a ramshackle drumkit with pom poms, and stacks of junkyard amps...not really your optimum selection of rock gear. But, from the first click down on their octave pedals, Part Chimp laid into one of the most devastatingly awesome tours on which the MONITOR team has ever laid their eyes and ears. It was on this tour that we became aware that Part Chimp were the most under appreciated rock band active today. Who else plays this loud, with this much fury!?!? Part Chimp continues their course with their new Monitor release "CUP." A compilation only available in North America, "CUP" contains the new single "New Cross", rarities, alternative versions of past tracks, a previously unreleased cover of the BEATLES' "Wild Honey Pie", and two music videos. The album, just like the live show, is raw, raucous, and will just as easily rip your head off if the volume is adjusted correctly.

Pjusk
Sart
PS, US Sart is the debut full-length cd from Norwegian duo Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik and Rune Sagevik, collectively known as Pjusk. First heard on 12k's Blueprints (12k1039) compilation, Pjusk's sound can be characterized as warm, dark, delicate, and wet. Sart builds a cavernous scape that listens like a surreal storybook, utilizing a combination of electronics, dub, rhythm, found sounds such as tape machine noise, fans, and ski lifts as well as field recordings from around the world. It is in their inspiration from very human events, such as private conversations, empty rooms, or smells that gives Pjusk's music a strangely familiar yet very disconnected and alien mood. They are very interested in the presence or disappearance of man and mankind's impact on nature, building on this dichotomy of tension as they create their work. Difficult to immediately classify, Pjusk carry on the organic and tonal tradition of 12k's recent output but twist it into darker and more narrative territory. Sart is a beautifully produced debut that clearly carves out the artists' own niche in electronic music. Pjusk is a duo from the westcoast of Norway. Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik started doing electronic music in the early nineties techno scene and layed live around the country with the Neural Network band. A dozen releases have since appeared both solo and in various bands. Most prominently the Circular project which relased several acclaimed albums on the same label as the Biosphere work of that era. Rune Andre Sagevik was an early party promoter way out in the vividly beautiful countryside in the deep fjords. He started doing electronic music a decade ago. The Pjusk project began when Jostein many years later heard one of these tracks on the radio. He liked it so much that he made contact with Rune and a fruitful, productive collaboration started in 2005. In the two years that have passed they have released work on compilations and their debut cd Sart, on 12k in New York.

Pollard, Robert
Silverfish Trivia
PS, US New album from GBV/Budweiser guy. RETRO-LO-FI: "On first glance, Bob's new EP Silverfish Trivia looks like it contains nearly as many instrumentals as it does actual songs, but it plays through like a singular twenty-minute piece. A highly abstract and slightly more mellow piece to be sure, but it's a whole and needs to be treated as such... Silverfish Trivia is a short wonder of a record."

Pterodactyl
S/T
PS, US The songs on this record range from incessant and infectious ("Polio") to sparse and spacious ("Three Succeed") to epic and redemptive ("Esses"). Combining a noisy post-punk palette with adventurous, arresting lead vocals and harmonies, PTERODACTYL'S first full-length offers up a compellingly catchy, scratchy sound that is not easily forgotten. In 2006 Village Voice music critic Robert Christgau caught a performance of "Polio" at the tail end of Pterodactyl's set and ranked it the best "tail end" in a month of New York live shows, writing: "A 20-minute Dungen song deserved its 10-minute flute solo. The unknown Pterodactyl repeated the same climactic six-note riff for six minutes. This was so much better than that flute solo."

Reininger, Blaine L.
Elektra / Radio Moscow
PS, UK 19 tracks. Blaine L. Reininger is one of the creative mainsprings behind the cult avant-garde band Tuxedomoon. As a solo artist he has produced some ten solo albums, including Broken Fingers (1982), Night Air (1984), Live in Brussels (1986), Instrumentals (1989) and Night Air #2 (2004). Elektra/Radio Moscow combines two haunting instrumental soundtracks written and arranged by Blaine. Elektra was commissioned for a version of the Sophocles play staged at the Athens Festival in Summer 2006 by director Angela Brusko. Radio Moscow is the score for the 1995 film of the same name by director Nicholas Triandafyllidis. TUXEDOMOON formed in San Francisco in 1977 around the nucleus of Steven Brown, Blaine Reininger and Peter Principle. Following releases on the Residents' Ralph label, the band relocated to Europe in 1981. Their dozen-odd albums include the classics Half Mute, Desire, Ghost Sonata and Holy Wars. Their new album Bardo Hotel was released in 2006. Blaine L. Reininger was born in Colorado in 1953, and currently divides his time between Italy and Greece.

Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, The
In Hospital/Then and Not A Moment Before (Collector's edition - 250 only)
PS, US Collector's edition (250 only)
7" pink colored vinyl & digital download release. The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir have been doing it themselves and doing it well for a few self-released, well received singles and an album. They back it up with an amazing live show, piling the stage with instruments and guest musicians. This single is a collaboration between the band and their friends here at Microindie, longtime fans and supporters of the band. The folks at AMG list the Smiths, Billy Bragg, Belle and Sebastian and Camera Obscura in the band bio. The SYGC single is part of a back-to-basics approach by Microindie Records. Previous to running Microindie, label owner Mike Babb released many records on the 7" vinyl format which was a great pleasure. Due to decreasing vinyl demand and increasing cd demand, the cd format became the first option. With the increase in quantity and acceptability of digital downloading, Mike has decided to de-emphasize the cd format and release singles on the beloved 7" vinyl and digital download formats. There will also be a limited number of specially designed promotional discs produced for print and online reviewers

Seefeel
Quique (Redux Edition)
PS, US Double CD re-issue of this 1993 electro-ambient classic comprised of Seefeel's debut full-length, 'Quique', newly remastered plus a bonus disc with rare mixes and 6 unreleased tracks. Gorgeous packaging with poster, liner notes by Seefeel mainman Mark Clifford, etc. Quique is a real line-in-the-sand type record, very easy to divide things into "Pre" and "Post". In those crazy, post Stereolab high days of the early 90's this record hit hard and unlike anything that anyone expected. It is safe to say that it would be very hard to imagine labels like Morr Music or the general cross-polinization of rock and electronic music that has happened over the last 10 years or so with out this record.

Smegma
33 1/3
PS, US 33 1/3 is Smegma's tribute to their 20th century avant-garde and out-jazz influences. The title is one part reference to the happy revival of passionate vinyl listening in the 21st century and one part celebration of their long hard slog of 33 1/3 years of being one of the most free thinking and original American underground groups. Their focus, ideas and determination has brought them through more than three decades and to this day they remain unparalleled, original and highly influential. 33 1/3 is enhanced with live videos of Happy Holidays live at End Times Festival (with Spencer Yeh and Twig Harper) as well as Grubsteak live at the Three Million Tongues festival in Chicago. Smegma. Seriously. They've been at it for so long now that you can't really even say they sound like anyone else. You can only say that others sound like them. They're all here on 33 1/3: Oblivia, Ju Suk Reet Meate, Burned Mind, Conroy, Dr. Id. The core group drumming up their influences and pulling off another burning album of magnificent proportions. . While Smegma has never really fit in anywhere their influence on the modern avant garde and improvised noise scene is absolutely undeniable. However, it's essential to remember that Smegma has never been noise for noise's sake. While they've had two feet firmly planted in avant-garde & free jazz one must not forget their rock roots as well. For this reason alone they're bound to not fit in anywhere. Influences aside, not matter how much everyone else sounds like Smegma, you can bet that Smegma is always going to sound like nobody else. Nobody else channels so much energy, effort, influence or sound into their work. They may just be the greatest American band. Ever.
