Ahleuchatistas
What You Will
PS, US Third album from this amazing avant-technical, post-Beefheart, improv-core, math-metal, art-damage, punk-rock, power trio formed in February, 2003, Ahleuchatistas are a guitar/bass/drums trio from Asheville, NC whose music is a cutting cultural critique and a joyous musical experience. Their sound is as stripped down as it can be - they use no effects whatsoever - and they combine elements of punk rock, post-electronic, progressive rock mathrock, fusion, and minimalism. They have released two acclaimed records, but What You Will is their first release with significant distribution. They have gained a significant reputation very quickly for their powerful and precise live shows. 3 QuickTime movies of the band in concert, playable on your Mac or PC, which captures a taste of their staggering live performances! For fans of: Captain Beefheart, Don Caballero, Fantomas, Hella, Minutemen, Ruins.

Antony And The Johnsons
You Are My Sister
PS, US ANTONY & THE JOHNSONS breakthrough album "I Am A Bird Now" has certainly touched fans and critics alike. His second full-length - released in February - stands as one of the most globally acclaimed albums of 2005. The album's latest single is the anthemic and heart-rending "You Are My Sister", presented as a duet between Antony and BOY GEORGE. Together these two vocalists climb to the highest peak of emotional vulnerability providing for the listener one of the most touching and uncanny duets of the past decade. It's heartbreaking when Antony sings, "You are my sister / we were born / so innocent, so full of need / there were times we were friends / but times I was so cruel / at night I'd asked for to watch me as I sleep". With soaring and world-weary intensity, Boy George utterly commands the refrain: "You are my sister / and I love you / may all of your dreams come true." In "You Are My Sister," the pair sing from the depths of their hearts for the world. This extended single also includes three new, unreleased songs recorded during the "I Am A Bird Now" sessions.

Blau, Karl
Beneath the Waves
PS, US While KARL BLAU's presence has been heard for years on numerous K RECORDS releases by THE MICROPHONES, LITTLE WINGS, WOLF COLONEL, D+, and on the INVISIBLE SHIELD compilation; "Beneath Waves" is his first full-length solo album for K. The past few years have found Karl recording and touring in Europe and North America with Nonesuch artist LAURA VEIRS, both as a band member and opening act. Meanwhile, Blau has toured solo, started his Kelp Monthly label and organized What the Heck fest in Anacortes, WA. Four years ago Karl Blau's critically acclaimed "Clothes Your I's" (Knw-yr-Own) ranked #2 on RICHIE UNTERBERGER's "Rolling Stone" top ten and received extensive college radio airplay. Now resurfacing as bandleader with "Beneath Waves," Blau's inner artist can no longer remain in the shadows. "Beneath Waves" is his most powerful work to date and he's ready to take the world by storm all on his own; KARL BLAU! Karl Blau is a gifted vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer/visionary who collaborates brilliantly with artists both inside and outside of himself. Constant touring, insanely prolific recording and his monthly outpouring of handmade music in idiosyncratic packages (KELP! Monthly) is evidence of his HUGE work ethic. "Beneath Waves" was recorded at The Department of Safety in Anacortes by DAVE MATTHIES (THE GIFT MACHINE) and produced by Karl Blau himself. Laura Veirs appears on a number of tracks, as does Karl's brother Eddy, Nate Ashley and Dave Matthies.

It contains all-original songs written by Chan Marshall (professionally known as Cat Power), and features the great Memphis session musicians Teenie Hodges on guitar, Leroy Hodges on bass (Al Green, Hi Rhythm Section), drummer Steve Potts, and more. The combination of Marshall's superbly evocative and flexible voice plus some of the greatest Southern soul players, has produced a masterpiece. Catfish Haven
Please Come Back
PS, US CATFISH HAVEN took its name from the rural trailer park nestled on the southern tip of Missouri where the trio's singer and main songwriter, GEORGE HUNTER, spent his early childhood. His father is a welder and, as with many trades, you must go where the work is. So the family packed up and left Catfish Haven for a Chicago suburb. It was there as a teenager that Hunter met future bandmates MIGUEL CASTILLO and RYAN FARNHAM. Their friendship was born out of a mutual love of skateboarding and music. After a few months and a move into the city, the three-piece stormed Chicago with a self-financed CD, complete with handmade beer box covers, to begin spreading the gospel of "The Haven". Word travels fast in the Windy City's music scene, and soon Catfish Haven had intrigued enough people to be invited to play alongside the likes of MY MORNING JACKET, DANIEL JOHNSTON, KINGS OF LEON and ZWAN, flooring audiences with the raw intensity of their live set. Akin to guitarists/vocalists like BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and JOHN FOGERTY, Hunter, a howling crooner with gravel in his honey-sweetened voice (a la SAM COOKE), is known to strike his acoustic while stomping through each number. Castillo's pounding bass grooves are heightened when joined by Farnham's forceful, yet tasteful, drumming. Consider this: howling + pounding = smooth. An improbable equation that Catfish Haven has managed to make work. So this is it. The guys in Catfish Haven are who they are; there's no room for pretension here. They play their hearts out for anyone who will listen 'cause they've got a love for music that drives them. And every note they play is intended to recapture those magical moments back at Catfish Haven.

Clearlake
Amber
PS, US 2000's debut, "Lido" sparked a sell-out UK tour and won plaudits from all sorts of stellar peers and heroes. 2003's "Cedars" established them in the US and Canada, along with a two-month visit that included dates with Stereolab and The Decemberists. This is the follow-up. From mesmeric to buzzy Byrdsy rush to Kinksy oomph to countrified lament, it's their wildest, deepest, most surprising album so far. Produced by Clearlake's Jason Pegg with Steve Osborne (U2) and Jim Abbiss (DJ Shadow, Arctic Monkeys).

Cluster
Cluster '71
PS, US On the outer edge of German space rock, Cluster '71 stands as a testament to minimalist "cosmische" music. The 3 untitled tracks composed and performed by Moebius and Roedelius are exploratory, ever-changing pieces with focuses on guitar distortion and synthesizer wails, though each goes far beyond. This album deserves the many accolades it's been given, and holds up as an early landmark in the history of beatless ambience.

Connors, Loren
Sails
PS, US To accompany guitarist LOREN CONNORS (nee MAZZACANE) is to discover a strange and forgotten America, then venture irreversibly beyond. Connors is frequently pegged as an avant bluesman, and the blues are never far from the surface of his art -- but what a shimmering surface it is! The brevity and lyricism of his improvisations bear the mark of haiku; the floating, expressionist tones reflect the influence of MARK ROTHKO; and as he conjures keening Celtic wails, Connors offers himself as medium to the ghosts of New York City Past. With "Sails", Connors enters the third decade of such intimate explorations. In the course of these two discs, we pass through saturated phrasings, slowly undulating drones, doldrumic introspection and squalls of white noise. The penultimate highlight is a duet with Connors' aesthetic compadre, the late, great JOHN FAHEY. It's an intuitive and seemingly predestined meeting of two enlightened fellow-travelers: wily Fahey as the Dr. Livingstone of raw Americana to Connors' indefatigable Stanley. For his own part, Connors can evoke more clarity and purity in a short cluster of notes than most of his shred-happy contemporaries can muster in a lifetime -- and with Fahey's passing, he may be justifiably considered this country's greatest living guitarist. Ultimately, Loren Connors path, while not for the timid, is one of unspeakable treasure: a journey to the heart of brightness; a quest to penetrate a Terra Incognita of the soul.

Conrad, Tony
Fantastic Glissando
PS, US It's 1969, and TONY CONRAD wants to take you Higher. Celebrated for the thrilling roar of his amplified violin, Conrad is a founding father of 'minimalism' and a giant in the American soundscape. Now Conrad's own Audio ArtKive imprint presents the first in a series of releases that reveal the wild breadth of his 40-year career, including field recordings, piano compositions, film soundtracks and more. "Fantastic Glissando" (1969) is a series of (d)evolving electronic compositions created with sine-wave oscillators. The instrumentation is different, but the effect is typical Conrad: soaring, aggressively textured and jet-engine massive. This first-time CD release contains an extra ten-minute bonus track not included on the original LP version.

Fuck The Universe
PS, US This is the final unholy razor sharp nail in the coffin for Swedens ultra-grim Black Metal disciples. After 3 absolutely incredible albums they are letting their creation die a slow painful death. It's crammed with unrelenting violence, hatred, & contempt for the outside world. For everything. A absolutely lethal fusion of unsuspectingly catchy, well played rifs & instinctual bleak songwriting provide the foundation for sinister enigmatic vokills to infest the final diseased resulting song.

Delta 5
Singles And Sessions - 1979-81
PS, US Part of the Leeds/UK art/music scene in the late '70s that launched The Gang Of Four and The Mekons, Delta 5 was signed to Rough Trade after only a few months in existence, and released their first single, "Mind Your Own Business/Now That You've Gone" in 1979. BBC host and producer John Peel requested the band do a "Sessions" gig for him and they were officially on their way. Relentless touring with The Gang Of Four, Echo And The Bunnymen, B52s, The Specials, The Teardrop Explodes, and U2 put the group on the map. They continued until various members departed in 1981, when they recorded one last single and broke up in 1982. This release contains long unavailable material as well as the never before released Peel Sessions.

PS, US The debut solo album from former WOLFIE, NATIONAL SPLITS, and NEW CONSTITUTION songwriter MIKE DOWNEY. Drop The Lime/Syrup Girls
Shotgun Wedding Vol 4
PS, US The fourth in Tigerbeat 6's Shotgun Wedding Series finds DROP THE LIME and SYRUP GIRLS exploring a shared love of grimy parties, fake blood fights, bootleg Vuitton, hot sauce on gold fronts, eyepatches, mastodons, and yelling in the streets. DTL's mix is a ride into the sounds that have inspired and influenced him as a producer. Using three turntables, he mixes old skool jungle classics screwed down to 33 over crunk and growling dubstep, 4x4 ghettotech over hip-hop all-star jams pitched up to 45, and Billie Holiday acapellas over swooning, melodic soundscapes. Basically, it's totally insane. SGs drop bullets on the decks and flames to the floor, making ill bootlegs, nasty 4x4 garage, Bmore club jams, favela funk and grime sound like they've always belonged together. If you don't dance to this, your booty is broken and you need to go home.

Duritti Column, The
Amigos Em Portugal
PS, UK Digitally re-mastered from vinyl, this is a limited re-release of the hard to find import Amigos Em Portugal. 'Amigos..' was released first time around in 1983 is a pre-cursor to one of the great Durutti Column albums Without Mercy although ironically it was supposed to be something more along the lines of something shorter. Recorded over a matter of only a couple of days such is always the case with Vini Reilly - the album allegedly was supposed to be a single or extended play and Vini was just enjoying the tape time playing many of the current work in progress pieces which later became part of the classical experiment with Music degree students Without Mercy. The newly-formed Portuguese label had the tapes and different a idea! Having heard several versions of events it is safe to at least say it was not quite as expected by either Factory or the band at the time. Most of the tracks here have a beautiful fragility whether just solo guitar instrumentals 'Estoril a Noire' or piano pieces such as 'Wheels Turning' or the piano loop from Without Mercy 'Favourite descending intervals'. Yes... the times when Vini played piano... the years before he believed he was 'an awful and discombobulated pianist' in his own words. It is the second release in a series of limited re-issues from the band on the imprint durutticolumn.com, the first of which Live At The Venue sold out on pre-sale. Three or four other albums of rare or previously unreleased material are planned over the next eighteen months. All will be 1000 copy only pressings.

Durrett, Liz
Mezzanine, The
PS, US In contrast to Liz's previous work, her second release is a surprisingly hi-fi affair. Gone are the hissing ghosts and unsure echoes that once haunted and obscured her recordings. Her voice and guitar are the focus here, and she performs with more energy, determination, and flat out rawness than ever before. These eleven songs cover a lot of ground. Produced by Vic Chesnutt and engineered by Andy Baker (Macha, Japancakes, Glands).

PS, US This sixth release (and first new East River Pipe record since 2003's "Garbageheads On Endless Stun") is another magical, intimate album, one that continues to justify Rolling Stone's claim that F.M. Cornog is "one of our generation's great eccentric songwriters". Fans of SMOG, Mercury Rev, and My Morning Jacket should take notice of Cornog's mastery.

Their 2nd LP covers loads of ground, from funk to experimental to lounge to invented ethnic music & pushes the envelope on all fronts. Their debut came out on Dodge's Slap A Ham label, later reissued by Relapse.

Sun, Sun, Sun
PS, US The rope-strong, luminous follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2004 debut, "Me First". Recorded while singer/songwriter Blake Sennett was on tour with his other band, Rilo Kiley, the album is propelled by the kind of unsettled, exploratory impetus that's only native to the American open road. While portions of the album were recorded in studios, Sennett recorded and produced the majority of his creations in environments he was passing through. The dichotomy between feeling completely at home and at the same time homeless on the road fuels Sennett's biting, reflective lyricism and grand, sweeping compositions.

Erast
Cyberpunk
PS, DE A unique concept underlies Cyberpunk, Tbilisi, Georgia-based Nika Machaidze's full-length Erast debut for Berlin's Laboratory Instinct. If that beginning sounds particularly cinematic in nature, the album as a whole exudes an equally bold sensibility, with each one of its sixteen tracks an evocative mini-soundtrack for the mind. Throughout Cyberpunk, Erast's music bursts with multi-layered interweaves of staccato, classically-tinged melodies in compositions that are intricate, at times labyrinthine. The album presents a diverse universe of sound collages, sparkling carousels, rambunctious gamelan settings, and mesmerizing reveries of cascading harps, silken strings, and bright piano flourishes. Cyberpunk's healthy sampling of frenetic jungle and drum'n'bass rhythms recalls Erast's past work while songs like "Influtusa" with its pizzicato plucks and thrumming pulse of clicks, snaps, hi-hat flutter, and bass burbles, chart new pathways. Some songs inhabit darker zones while others bask in paradisiacal settings of bucolic warmth. While the title track's industrial elements, for example, conjure a brooding ambiance, billowing glistens of animated sparkle and soulful string stabs in "Txili" generate a sunnier mood. The album effortlessly moves between spectral electro-boogie, haunting galaxial atmospheres, percolating breaks, glissandi showers and deep orchestral melancholy. Ambitious pieces like "Kitchen Sonatine/Happy Meal" and "Dimpitauri" demonstrate remarkably the ease with which Erast fuses multiple styles into compelling wholes. Cyberpunk impresses as a breathtaking work of imagination and invention, Machaidze's most fully-realized Erast statement to date - a definitive release and a major event.

Ester Drang
Rocinate
PS, US On their third full-length, Ester Drang catapult even further into their patented synth-dripped rhythms, throbbing percussion, rising horns, and post-grazer grandeur, having as much in common with Brian Eno's mournful drone as they do The Notwist's passionate textures. A beautiful ensemble of tracks that prove songs not only have the power to elevate or to infiltrate, but when properly strung together, can be as transcendent as they are moving.

Everlovely Lightningheart
Cusp
PS, US This collaborative is an entity capable of producing, perverting, destroying, distributing, stealing, and selling a vast and sprawling array of existing as well as unheard of forms of cultural products and concepts. Their performances range from serene to chaotic. Including anywhere from two to a dozen performers, each is a truly unique experience. They've played shows with Isis, These Arms Are Snakes, Pelican, Bastard Noise, and more. As well as playing the conventional club circuit, they've also been included as part of several museum and art collective events. They document every performance with audio, video, and photography, creating an extensive library of work. "Cusp" is beautiful in its chaos and simplicity. It is a humbling and sad composition, the sort of sadness that tunes the listener into the physical state of humanity.

Excepter
Sunbomber
PS, US This EP serves as a launching pad into the visionary plane of the modern-day barnstormer. Excepter is a synthetic protest band engineered to erase cultural distinctions through polarized confusion. They're damaged where Black Dice are experimental, and primitive and impulsive where Animal Collective are whimsical. This is full-fledged ambient house, maybe calypso but who's counting, unafraid of its reggae roots, too. A band to watch.

Fibla
Lent
PS, ES "Lent" is Fibla's second stroke in his own imprint, spa.RK. "Lent" finds FIBLA in composed and fully assuredform, employing trademark electronic elements, yet finding enough distinction to set it above and beyond the vast conveyor belt of the contemporary electronic scene. There's an unhurried, slow motion grace at the heart of this release, and it shows considerable amounts of heart and feeling at every turn. 'Krud' immediately settles into a sedate, majestic progression - booming bass and chords like ointment. 'Making the most of it' carries the feeling of impending time, building up from washes of sound and layer, emerging poised and smooth from a relatively crunched up beginning. 'La baie des anges' adopts a more architecturalapproach, perhaps more Autechre than Gaudi, but still, anyone who's visited the Sonar festival in Vicent's home town should understand the thrust and the context of this graceful piece.'Boringly repetitive' takes the slanderous, almost journalistic term and fires it right back t the critics. Bumping along at an increased tempo, there's a defiant, joyous electronic hook which in the right hands could rock any party, worth the name. 'Antaix' brings us back to earth, crumpled but still nicely crisped around the edges, while 'Inside' enlists the assistanceof DJ 2D2 on turntables, support dj on the latestPrefuse 73 tour. Summing up, we find the concluding track 'An incredible shared moment' and that couldstand as fitting comment on the inclusive, sunblessed, shimmering web of sound that is 'Lent'. Just stick it on continuous play for a while and the feeling starts to build...

Film School
S/T
PS, US Film School is a band with impressively eclectic influences (Pink Floyd, The Who, obscure electronica, metal, drone, alternative '80s), a grandiose collective musical history, and a healthy bout of critical acclaim. "Wonderfully off-kilter pop songs" - NME. "As their name implies, Film School creates sounds with a cinematic eye...This four-song EP is a compact 23-minute trip that proves this San Francisco quintet have serious dibs on becoming leaders if Haight-Ashbury is ever to rise again" - CMJ. Rave live reviews in the NME and The Fly followed their UK visit in September 2004, supporting TV On The Radio. The Sunday Times Culture Magazine hailed them as one of the new bands that "should be huge", and Music Week included them in their rundown of the "eleven buzz bands on the brink of greater things."

Ghost Orchid, The
An Introduction to EVP
PS, Originally issued in 1999, this is the third edition of this much sought-after CD, which has been unavailable since 2002. The Parapsychic Acoustic Research Cooperative [PARC], in association with Ash International, is proud to present the first-ever fully comprehensive investigation into the paranormal phenomenon of EVP, otherwise known as Electronic Voice Phenomenon. Without a doubt, EVP falls into the category of the paranormal alongside other unexplained mysteries such as Ufology, life after death and poltergeist activity. The listener is guided through a collection of strange and mysterious voices that have appeared without explanation onto the tapes of EVP researchers. Included with the CD is a 12-page booklet containing commissioned articles which cover the conflicting views surrounding the phenomena. Actual voice samples are reproduced here such as: polyglot voices, Public Service Broadcasting, interruptions across the airwaves, singing voices, instant response voices, and the extraordinary alien voices. The CD also includes a commentary by the artist Leif Elggren (in English), and recordings of the work of Raymond Cass, England's leading EVP researcher and an original member of the Fortean Group, as well as the Latvian EVP researcher, Dr. Konstanin Raudive. This CD release seeks to present the evidence; are the voices extraterrestrial, paranormal evidence of our telepathic powers, or an elaborate hoax perpetrated by sinister and powerful groups to mislead us from their true aims? Ghostly, disembodied voices crackle through the airwaves surrounded by a haze of electronic mist. This recording not only peaks the curiosity of paranormal-buffs, but will appeal to any fan of electroacoustic sound experimentation, spoken word, and short-wave radio random noise.

Everything In 3 Parts
PS, US Canada's next big thing play infectious, adrenaline-charged music, energized by their hyperactive leader/songwriter Dave Azzolini. Their compositions are created from a palate dripping with McCartney-isms, odes to XTC and Elvis Costello, plus other cross-decade references too diverse for any retro tag. Gossip
Standing In The Way Of Control
PS, US The first thing that strikes you is the rhythm. The Gossip have been making punks dance since they debuted five years ago, long before dance punk existed. Soulful and jagged, you can hear everything from Dischord to Motown. The vocals resonate with the confidence of the lyrics, asking people to hold on just a little bit longer, reassuring youth that there are others out there, and spitting in the face of all who say otherwise. Their third album was recorded by Guy Picciotto (Fugazi). This is the sound of a band destroying and surpassing all expectations placed on them.

Gown
Sacred Mountains
PS, US Gown is from the islands of British Columbia Canada, and spent an entire year living on one such island alone with his dog and 3 or more goats. If rock and its subforms are based on blues forms then Gown is hatched from sea shanties and the sea in general. It swirls and eddies like the sea trapped in a cove before finding it's way to the ocean in the form of massive swells before becoming waves crashing on the rocks. It is a journely and far from perfect, but the misteps sparkle and gleam with all the beauty that surrounds us. This LP was recorded over the course of one month in Florence, Mass after a 2 month tour across the USA, playing in a duo with Christina Carter. Gown and Christina also contributed a side the My Cat Is An Alien split LP/CD series and have a CD coming out on Foxy Digitalis/Digitalis Industires. Gown is also involved in a trio with Thurston Moore and Pete Nolan (MAGIK MARKERS) called BARK HAZE. Limited to 600, w/hand painted original covers.

PS, US The Californian junkies of the good groove return with one of their funkiest slabs o' soulful house for sometime, not least thanks to SOLARA's sassy vocal, some slick sax accompaniment and a killer bass line. This new comer's oh-so-distinctive vocal inflection and panache smacks of the charm of that other notable lady of garage, Barbara Tucker. Hollingsworth, Taylor
Tragic City
PS, US "Taylor Hollingsworth and his band are sloppy and wild in the mode of The Stooges or The MC5 (or The Rolling Stones at their worst), which are likely models, yet this band's overall tone often recalls bands such as The Only Ones or The Heartbreakers. If they played fast and hard instead of loose and slinky, they could even be The Saints. A lot of the sloppiness is salvaged, or accented, by white-hot guitar runs that take the sound into Johnny Thunders territory, by way of Billy Gibbons. Vocals, for the most part, remain in the more disturbing/intriguing range of Peter Perret and Nikki Sudden, so you can see why it is difficult to accept this band's approach as just a happy accident" - Black & White.

Hooker, William/Renaldo Lee
The Celestial Answer
PS, US As individual performers, WILLIAM HOOKER and LEE RANALDO are explosive. As collaborators, they are thermonuclear. A kinetic, avant percussionist and poet, Hooker is one of New York's most important band leaders, having fronted groups that included DAVID MURRAY and DAVID S. WARE. Ranaldo leads the improv supergroup TEXT OF LIGHT, whose fluid membership includes Hooker, as well as CHRISTIAN MARCLAY, TIM BARNES and MISSION OF BURMA's ROGER MILLER - and of course, he's a co-founder of the indefatigably experimental SONIC YOUTH. With "The Celestial Answer," Hooker and Ranaldo have created a work of blindingly brilliant, elemental force. Rays of white guitar noise penetrate clouds of analog synth; molten drumming blasts across free-form poetics. The dynamic is beautiful and inspired - a simple cold-fusion of intuitive interaction and boundless sonic freedom. These are thoughtful and emotionally attuned artists. Open your ears and they'll take you on a soaring voyage through an ec
static firmament, into the howling mouth of infinity.

Johnson, Richard Leo
Legend of VernonMcAlister
PS, US Touted by Playboy as "the most innovative guitarist since Jimi Hendrix," and by 20th Century Guitar as "mind-boggling!", Richard Leo Johnson's style is marked by startling speed, complexity and hauntingly unfamiliar harmonies. After over a decade of being on the road, performing concerts and guitar clinics and work-shops, Richard was discovered by Blue Note, who released albums in 1999 and 2000, gathering extreme critical praise. Here Richard has traded in his double-neck acoustic for a well-worn, 1930s National Duolian steel-bodied guitar. Richard was inspired by this unique instrument and its sounds to try something different from any of his other albums. A CD of deep beauty and innovation, created with just this one old guitar, some simple electronic and tape effects, and Richard's talents. Richard's music is singularly beautiful, but it also is not afraid to have a 'bite' and it will appeal both to the new generation of fans discovering edgier solo acoustic guitar music of people like Derek Bailey, teffen Basho-Junghans and Jack Rose, as well as to fans of acoustic guitar geniuses such as Robbie Basho, John Fahey, Michael Hedges, John McLaughlin, Steve Tibbetts and Ralph Towner. Maryrose Crook/Renderers
Ghosts of Our Vegas Lives
PS, US If you feel like you have grown old and decrepit waiting for New Zealand's the RENDERERS to release another album to follow up their 1998 Siltbreeze release "A Dream of the Sea," you're probably not too far off the mark. This is Renderers singer/guitarist Maryrose Crook's first solo LP & NZ's primordial alt- country band the Renderers in nearly a decade. Features 10 dreamlike dark, soulful songs that burst with life (as well as its opposing force). Recorded with then Renderers lineup of Maryrose on vocals & rhythm guitar, husband BRIAN COOK on lead guitar & keyboard, bassist Thom Bell (DAVID KILGOUR), & famed NZ drum basher Robbie Yeats (DEAD C), "Ghosts" oozes through the speakers with the arid barrenness of a Clint Eastwood desperado Western & the subterranean muculence of a David Lynch rabbit-hole headtrip, giving life to the dead-end tales of an unnamed couple tethered to each other in a forlorn doom scenario. The Renderers' singular approach - half thoroughly tweaked garage/country/psych propulsiveness and half restrained noir-beauty - fleshes out each of the album's songs with the perfect dose of restraint and release. One could easily envision these songs being performed in a sordid West Texas nightclub just as easily as a smoky San Francisco ballroom or a grimy Dunedin pub. Previous releases on Flying Nun & Ajax

Mikkel Metal
Victimizer
PS, Vinyl version. Victimizer is the first full-length from Copenhagen-based producer Mikkel Metal (aka Mikkel Meldgaard). The CD version is backed up by this 12" vinyl release containing four of the new tracks off the full-length CD. Mikkel Metal has always refused to force himself on the listener, he would rather act as a commentator on what can occur from a higher state of conscience, without provoking any sort of superiority complex. Arrogance is not his thing. Victimizer is his self-invented expression, giving new meaning to the proverb "the more haste, the less speed." Pay heed and be prepared to be bewildered as to where one should categorize this release - though Victimizer inspires from the fringes of dub, indie-rock, vocoder-pop and of course minimal techno, this album isn't so simple as to pigeonhole itself in your encyclopedia of genres. Genuinely, Mikkel Metal has delivered dynamic, universal music that once again showcases the progressive growth and depth in Kompakt'
s blossoming family.

Miwon
Pale Glitter
PS, DE Berlin-based Hendrik Kröz aka Miwon's debut full-length release. Kröz has been an active member of the Berlin-based electronic music scene for a very long time, and his hundreds of live P.A.s created a big fan base for his soulful electronic pop music. As the initiator of the already-legendary "laptop battles," he did important groundwork for the development of Berlin electronic music in general. After the release of his 12" Brother Mole, Miwon returns with Pale Glitter - one of the most perfect pop albums out there. Miwon embraces his long history of recording and experimenting with electronic music and merges it all into one big, irresistible wall of catchy sounds and tunes. "Hush" and the title track "Pale Glitter" are deep, minimal dancefloor killers, while "When Angels Travel" drags the more experimental side of Miwon's sound out of the dark, and polishes it until they fit into this last-man-on-earth soundtrack. Then there is "No Need For Sanity," a remix Miwon did for
Pia Fraus, a band from Estonia which has already made a big buzz in Japan. "Flakes" displays Miwon's devotion to heavy use of locked turntable grooves, and turns somewhat into a laptop lullaby. If you are looking for the essence of electronic pop, you do not have to look any further. The same can be said about "Vertizontale," proving Miwon's compatibility with the biggest venues on this planet, merging an old-school house-anthem with U2-like guitars. Enough said. Enjoy the Pale Glitter.

National Trust, The
Kings And Queens
PS, US Their second full-length is a freaky conflation of dance music, like a 31-flavor ice cream social on a hot summer's day where bongos and subs keep time for a gaggle of face-painters, genies, and roller-queens, but it's more about lifestyle than any generic allegiance or retro revivalism. The band calls it "body music". "Kings And Queens" makes nods to disco, house, and pop, as well as what the band members heard around them on the streets, in parks, and in clubs. Equally present are Chicago-style horns, R&B falsetto, Latino percussion, and bass lines with more soul than a gospel choir. Produced by Abel Garabaldi, engineer for R. PS, US 'Quirky, ecstatic tunes that throw indie rock, emo & even some hip-hop together & tell them to make nice. The noisy pop quartet displays the blazing energy of fellow Midwesterners OK Go & some keenly lyrical, Modest Mouse-esque songwriting skills."

Positions
Bliss!
PS, US New group featuring Ivan Ramsical (BARCELONA) who worship the classic pop single & drawn inspiration therefrom. It's those reason-for-living choruses, the blissful melodies, the enthusiasm, the energy, the immediacy and the familiarity that put the fear of pop in them. It's the singles from the '60's (think Phil Spector and the Zombies), the early '80's (think Dexy's Midnight Runners, the Attractions and The Style Council) and current indiepop (think Beulah and uptempo Belle and Sebastian) that rock their world, float their boat and twirl their ticket. The Positions are happy when their choruses won't leave your head, when you can't stand still, and you reach for the rewind button.

Rec_Overflow
Madrid
PS, ES Rec_Overflow is a master in language combination, from Miami gitch to hip hop remodification, pluggins abuse or DSP (Digital Sound Processing). His crunchy rhythms, intertwined with a peculiar melody use and those watery rhythm structures, lend his sound a unique personality. A record so full of details that just gets richer every time you listen to it. The fact that the album is called "Madrid" is a declaration of love, or maybe a declaration of principles, and it serves to remark that the Spanish electronic scene enjoys a very productive period and is beginning to gain the recognition it deserves abroad. "Madrid" is a winning bet for those with restless ears, a work with countless readings along the eleven tracks that make up the album. Also available there is a 5-track vinyl sampler with an exclusive track.
