PS, US Self-titled LP & 9 additional live tracks. Led
by charismatic singer/performer Haco. A sublime incarnation
of surreal, direct & offbeat Japanese/ European pop.
It features astonishing swathes of ambient sound, over
which Haco's voice soars, before undertaking daring sonic
maneuvers; surround sound, backwards/sped up/reversed tape
techniques & binaural oddities. A large cast of pivotal
Japanese musicians feature in the complex but charming
arrangements, marking a strange twist to avant Japanese

AFX (Aphex Twin)
Chosen Lords
PS, Us Rather than release a 3 CD feat. all 41 Analord
tracks, AFX himself has distilled the tunes into a cohesive
album, as it was intended to be heard. It is, in fact,
the first full album of new material & the word is
that the tracks are among his very best. Largely recorded
on his private collection of analog synthesizers - vintage, modern & home-made, the rhythms,
melodies, harmonies, & even some subliminal lyrics
have all evolved directly from the machines. Partly-inspired
by NY electro, Chicago house & Detroit techno classics,
but the album also stimulates the kind of "lucid dreaming" atmospherics
found on "Selected Ambient Works 85-92"

Summer Sensation
PS, US Teenage punk band formed in early '04 playing their
1st gigs in their hometown at a pizza joint called Guido's.
The band played their 10th show ever at the CMJ festival
that year after which London based label XL offered to
put out a single "Damn Damn Leash". BBC Radio
One & MTV2 started playing the single & by SXSW
'05, kids from both sides of the Atlantic were freaking.
Since then the band has conquered Glastonbury, Summersonic
in Japan, Reading & Leeds Festival, Village Voice Siren
Festival, done extensive touring w/Le Tigre & The Kills,
released their 2nd single "Fire Department" on
Rough Trade & recorded lots more songs. This EP combines
the Rough Trade single tracks (never before released in
the US) + 2 tracks from a session recorded w/ Steve McDonald

Northern
PS, US The inspiration behind Northern (including its music,
title and photography) comes from Deupree's recent relocation
from the heart of urban activity in Brooklyn to the tranquility
of the forest in upstate New York. Inspired by nature and
the winter during which it was created, Northern, like
much of his recent work, explores Deupree's interest in
stillness and a slowed sense of time. Through quiet textures,
subtle movements, faint loops and echoes, it was his goal
to create the type of music that comes naturally to him
while also highlighting the input from his dramatic new
surroundings.

and bassist/sound artist Alexandre St-Onge(KLAXON GUEULE,
SHALABI EFFECT, ET SANS), the band took shape in Montreal
in 2004. With FLY PAN AM on indefinite hiatus, this is
the band to watch. Channelling the explosive noise-rock
collage of their brilliant live performances, this debut

a palette of pumping organ chords, shards of electric guitar,
vocals often processed beyond recognition and myriad swoops & squawks.
Very strange and very catch avant rock.

Bitter Tea (Digipack Packaging)
PS, US "Bitter Tea (to be released on their new label
Fat Possum Records) was recorded at the same time as Rehearsing
My Choir, the album made with their 82 year old grandmother
on vocal duties, and one which tracked the story of her
life in a series of inventive vignettes. Bitter Tea, however,
has an even wider appeal. Or, as Matt has put it: "Bitter Tea is a very girly
record. The granddaughter record, as opposed to the grandmother
record." The Friedbergers describe this album as "Sissy
Psychedelic Satanism." Their reference points range
from Devo to tack-piano and an imagined granddaughter1s
pre-adolescently playful take on Black Sabbath - replete
with backwards vocals. It's also a return to a fuller,
more band-oriented sound. Matt Friedberger says he believes
his little sister to be "The finest lady vocalist
in Rock-n-Roll for the past twenty-five years". She
may well be.
Bitter Tea was recorded in Benton Harbour Michigan in 2005
and was written & produced by Matt Friedberger. Matthew
played all instrumentation apart from drums. Eleanor sang
and played some drums. Additional drum work comes courtesy
of Andy Knowles." - Filter

Frog Eyes
The Future is Inter-disciplinary or Not at All
PS, SPAIN Quartet Frog Eyes are the antithesis of their
quiet Canadian village. Utilizing the carnival atmosphere
of Rain Dogs-era Tom Waits, the frenetic energy of vintage
Cramps, and the diabolical scheming of pre-Murder Ballads
Nick Cave, the post-punk collective creates an atmosphere
of psychedelic unease. In 2003, after the critical success
of Hand, the band released the enigmatic Golden River on
the Animal World label, resulting in another flurry of
raves and a newly minted fan base. Now this exclusive EP
features 17 minutes, 8 inter-connected songs that form
one unified listening experience and leaves the listener

Gepe
Gepinto
PS, US Acclaimed as the independent album of the year in
his country, the Chilean songwriter Gepe's first LP "Gepinto" has
crossed frontiers with a very special mix of influences:
from the folk of fellow Chileans Violeta Parra and Victor
Jara to the refined pop of "Smile" by Brian Wilson
to the experimentation that is characteristic
of artists like Animal Collective and Devandra Banhart.
His music frees
traditions to create a musical personality that has been
valued as unique, firstly thanks to the EP "5x5" and
later thanks to "Gepinto". His participation
in the compilation "Panorama Neutral" with the single "Namás" which has opened the
doors to Europe for him having been featured in Spanish
magazines like Rock De Lux and The Belle Music. A total
discovery from the end of the earth.

Indigo Boys
Pansexual Party Song
PS, US This is the space where labels talk the hype. The
big hype. About how big shit these fellows used to be.
They're has-beens. And how the band sounds better then
a fist fight between Jesus and Mohammed. About how they
used to jam on your momma and buttstick all the tight-pants
in the scene. Yea, it sound like post-modern math combined
with Jimmy Eats World if they never owned a Green Day record....mixed
with some Roxy Music and XTC (but only the early drug-induced
stuff). Oh, and we would say how its a departure from the
repetitive, non-vocal wish-we-were Shellac but quit having
fun a long time ago and can't find a singer because no
one in town wants the burden of living my pipe dream rock.

Edie Brickell/Blonde Redhead mutants, PJ Harvey meets Sonic

Maquiladora
The Gulf
PS, SPAIN In the deep of the gulf, the dark water flows
through Maquiladora's songs; floating, exhaling. Submerged
into something foreign, yet archetypal, this EP is a sort
of divine consciousness, a soundtrack for the ocean. Some
sounds are familiar, others distant and remote, speaking
to those from below the surface. Maquiladora, on loan from
Darla records (for whom they normally release their records),
swims within "The Gulf", an exclusive 6 tracks
release on the Spanish label Acuarela Discos, a relationship
formed out of kinship with Spain's banda divina, Mus. Their
sound? Call it neo-leftfield folk, or country/stoner rock,
or even Americana with hints of Slowcore, but what they
do is basically dismantle the music machine and rebuild
it with alien parts. Deconstrucion and clasicism? Yeah,
why not?

First Chapter
PS, US Compilation of early singles is set up in a rocker/moody
track/rocker pattern that takes the listener on a spectrum
of sound vibes. Features stand out singles, "Serpent's
Kiss" and "Garden Of Delight", as well as
covers of "Like A Hurricane" (Neil Young), "Wishing
Well" (Free), and "Dancing Barefoot" (Patti
Smith). This proved that the band was interested in taking
goth rock to more eclectic places than just drum machines

icy drones, and subtle infernal groans from the obscure

all sorts of bonus frequencies not on the limited edition

By Chance Upon Waking
PS, UK NALLE was formed in Glasgow in the summer of 2004.
The group consists of HANNA TUULIKKI (vocals, kantele,
flutes), ABY VULLIAMY (viola) and CHRIS HLADOWSKI (bouzouki,
clarinet). All three group members have performed with
SCATTER, and Chris and Aby also play in THE ONE ENSEMBLE
OF DANIEL PADDEN, amongst other projects. By Chance on
Waking is the group's debut release. Fused with magic,
the haunting songs and sprawling melodies speak of our
relationship with the sun, the mountains, and ravens. The
songs center around narratives (sung in both English and
Finnish-betraying Hanna Tuulikki's dual roots) augmented
by tonal explorations using vocals, guitar, kantele, flutes,
viola, bouzouki and clarinet with melodic wizardry, drawing
on folk forms in a wholly idiosyncratic manner. Tuulikki's
astonishing vocals have drawn favorable comparisons with
Joanna Newsom. A stunning amalgam of folk, psych, improv
and drone.

Pumice
Yeahnahvienna
PS, US Pumice has returned with another set of stirring & shambolic
downer hymns. With songs nestled halfway between Xpressway's
searing static and Flying Nun's dark jangle, Stefan Neville
has quietly created a unique brand of fractured pop since
1991. Despite (or because of) his activity in New Zealand's
cassette underground for the past 15 years, Neville has
only recently begun to crawl into the consciousness of
outsider music fans. Both the second widely available Pumice
release, and the proper follow-up to 2003's acclaimed Raft
CD on Last Visible Dog. Conceived and recorded during an
artist residency in Vienna in 2004. The resulting recordings
are indebted to Austrian beer, unspeakable horror and wild
dogs. Neville's precariously arranged arsenal of cassettes,
chord organ, vocals, drums and guitar has yielded a fragile
and fractured masterwork. A stark and melancholic affair,
calling to mind Alastair Galbraith, Sun City Girls and
Supreme Dicks. Through Neville's layers of hiss and murk
lie harrowing and beautiful songs. Auckland's Pumice is
part of a New Zealand musical lineage that includes Dead
C, Tall Dwarfs, The Pin Group, This Kind of Punishment,
and contemporary acts like Armpit, Birchville Cat Motel,
Witcyst, Antony Milton & Lovely Midget. His ballads & experiments
encompass the aural oeuvre of the aforementioned acts delivered
with a truly distinct vision.

Situation, The
Self-Titled
PS, US On their self-titled debut full-length, Philadelphia's
The Situation bring together an amalgam of influences that
you will be hard pressed to pinpoint. You will hear the
swagger of Britpop icons like The La's and the Stone Roses
mixed with the literate pop musings of American artists
such as Bob Dylan and The Shins. Like the White Album or
Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, the music on the album is decidedly
anti-genre. Like Highway 61 Revisited or Blood on the Tracks,
the lyrics on the album are well thought out, emotional
ramblingsthe two of these together make this album a daydreamer's
paradise. The artwork reflects album's theme, flesh vs.
spirit, which is summarized by the first line from the
opening track, "Amoralia." If this album were
an essay on the human condition, this track would be its
opening paragraph. The core of The
Situation's gripping sound stems from the remarkable chemistry
between songwriter Christopher Tucker
and lead guitarist Joe Castro, whom Tucker dubs "Joey
Marr" in reference to the Smiths legend. The group's
2003 debut, The Reece Nasty EP, drew numerous raves from
esteemed publications. The Philadelphia Weekly exclaimed: "Absolute
fucking pop geniusif this was NME you were reading, there'd
be a little tag above this that said Single of the Week." The
Big Takeover poetically observed that The Situation's "walls
of ringing, arpeggiating Rickenbackers and proper pop songs
sound geographically attuned to the Liverpool/Manchester
soundthe sound of the Mersey as filtered through the Schuylkill." Magnet
compared the group to '60s Brit gods The Kinks and The
Small Faces, noting that they conjure "the same wobbly,
psychedelic visions that the Brian Jonestown Massacre excels
at." On their debut, they excel even further this
is a capricious album that requires many listens to begin
to understand. Nearly four years in the making, the album was finally
completed late 2005 and mixed by Philadelphia's hardest
working producer and soundsmith, Brian McTear whose credits
include the likes of Mazarin, Matt Pond PA, and the Capitol
Years.

together in Matthew's comfy home studio and record a stunning
album of their favorite '60s pop hits and rarities, of
course! The two first worked together in conjunction with
Mike Myers as members of the band Ming Tea, appearing in
all three Austin Powers movies and soundtracks. Now they've
struck out on their own with Under The Covers Vol. 1, a
tribute to their favorite '60s acts, including The Beatles,
Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Who, and cult favorites like
The Velvet Underground, The Zombies, The Left Banke and
Love. Leaving the songwriting to others lets Matthew and
Susanna focus on singing, and the results are breathtaking.

keyboards and write string arrangements. It all adds up

Tale Of The CIty: A Philadelphia Compilation
PS, SPAIN Eighteen underground bands make up an addictive
compilation with a brilliant start. The enthusiastic A-Sides
and their psychedelic 'Sidewalk Chalk' is very Kinks-like.
They're the new sensation, ones to watch out for... The
second track gets into spacey sounds with the Flaming Lips
-probably thanks to National Eye. Track three is coming
from deep in the basement -The Capitol Years sound as if
the Velvet Underground were playing without Lou Reed. Our
aim really, is to keep you guessing with every track, while
you think 'how the hell I was missing all that?!' There
are bands like Buried Beds and their self-released album,
as well as alternatives options such as Dr. Dog or Mazarin,
the latter with an unreleased demo. In fact, ten of the
tracks are exclusive tunes. The Spinto Band shows how the
Beatles would sound in the 21st century. The Webb Brothers
have recently been doing brilliantly internationally and
Marah with their 'Formula, Cola, Dollar Draft' - well beloved
by underdogs- take part in this initiative as well. Let's
go on: Kurt Vile with his psych-folk, Guided By Voices
who supported the Strokes, dreamy melodies by Hi-Soft -whose
leader was in the former Lilys- and finally a good example
of psych-pop with Mad Action. Maybe it's a bit of an exaggeration
to say that Philadelphia is the new Brooklyn. However 'The
New York Times' pointed out that the city is becoming so
cool that it could be the sixth district in New York. Obviously
this is their opinion, and who are we to argue... Track

5 year old, and celebrates by presenting a triple pack
compilation, with one new new track by past, present and
future Ad Noiseam artists, as well as videos by almost
half of them. More than a collection of various material
thrown together, "Ad Noiseam 2001- 2006" is a
testimony of what Ad Noiseam is about, and how the label
has grown into a melting pot of sounds, genres and feelings,
focusing on music quality without ever embracing fashions
and scenes. Launched in April 2001 with the "Krach
Test" triple CD compilation, Ad Noiseam celebrates
its fifth birthday and 60th release with another massive
compilation, in the form of two CDs and a DVD packaged
in a tall triple digipack and packed with almost four hours
of new music and video. Over the course of five years,
Ad Noiseam has released records and CD of a wide variety
of styles, giving headaches to reviewers trying to pigeon-hole
the label into a small category. From the melancholic guitars
of Magwheels to the hectic breaks of Enduser, from the
deep atmospheres of Wilt to the booty-shaking bass of Mothboy,
Ad Noiseam invites its listeners to sit down and enjoy
the variety of the label with "Ad Noiseam 2001-2006".
A musical ride, this project is also a way to look at what
has been done, and what Ad Noiseam stands for. These five
years have been a hard ride, but one rich in musical quality,

It's Importland To Me To Be One Step Further Than One Step
Behind
PS, US Holocene Music commissioned a unique collaboration
in which a selection of the Portland's most talented electronic
musicians were asked to reinterpret the music of their
favorite Portland bands. The result is a post-millennial
blend of electropunk, indie rock, and outsider folk, digitally
spliced and mutated to form a cohesive album of genre-screwed
electronic music. Featuring emixes of the Blow, the Thermals,
Talkdemonic, The Kingdom, Point Line Plane, Thanksgiving,
Plants and more. Remixes by Strategy, Copy, Ovian and more.

Billboard Head Soup
PS, US Let's celebrate our advanced age by wallowing in
80s pop culture. A splashing tribute to feathered hair,
pink sweaters and leather jeans. A double CD compilation
dedicated to American Billboard Hits. Carelessly scratching
the gloss of these candy-floss memories with a disrespectful
electro-punk attitude inherited from the very same decade,
Nu Nulax
Nulan, Xerxes and Sonore labels have joined forces
to fulfill a colossal task: collecting 40 freaky covers
hacked by a tribe of twisted international artists including:
Satanicpornocultshop, Dag Shen Ma, Gangpol Und Mit, Conceal,

With Throats As Needles
Self Titled
PS, US Deep inside an abandoned bunker on New Zealand's
north island, WITH THROATS AS FINE AS NEEDLES have perfected
their craft. On this, their debut CD release, the group
has expanded to a quartet. BIRCHVILLE CAT MOTEL's CAMPBELL
KNEALE and PSEUDOARCANA chief, ANTHONY MILTON, have joined
forces with JAMES KIRK (SANDOZ LAB TECHNICIANS, GATE) and
RICHARD FRANCIS (ESO STEEL) to create a claustrophobic,
organic web of massive drones. Everything on this CD was
recorded outdoors with battery-powered instruments. Underneath
the ground, the quartet burrows out their own cavern, bouncing
sounds off the walls until it becomes a singular, solid
mass. Each gently sculpted tone floats in humid air. The
music is saturated with the dirt and grime from a million
a years of human history, wailing out in unison like an
excavation turned exorcism. With Throats as Fine as Needles
are your guides through this aural fog. Co-released with
Ohio's Students of Decay imprint.

the most high-tech devices as well as the cheapest recording
gadgets. Sound-art oriented, Yuko NEXUS6's work is minimalist
but full of wit.

Yuko Nexus6
Journal de Tokyo
PS, US EXCLUSIVE. DIGITAL MUSIC AWARD, ARS ELECTRONICA
2003. Yuko Nexus6 first developed works based on readings,
then carefully applied a blend of the analog color of the
audio cassette on to sounds generated by new musical technologies,
offering a destabilizing linguistic and temporal experience.
Yuko NEXUS6 succeeds skilfully, with a sincere tone, in
making music both minimalist and witty, filled with suspense,
love and catastrophe.

Forthcoming Releases
10lec6
Join Us (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 9TH)
PS, US (Pronounced "dis-lec-six"). French disco
punk featuring the original drummer of Daft Punk. This
is a repressing of their debut 7-inch that was originally
released by the band. The awesome lead vocals call to mind
Eve Libertine of Crass. Emi (vocalist) emits such passion
and conviction that it's hard to turn away. The music recalls fellow Crass label mates Dirt
mixed with the rhythmic collisions of Essential Logic.
Picture the more dance-y Crass songs and you may have a
starting point. 10lec6 is very rhythm-based, but also very
aggressive.

tale of future past, memories lost & dying love. Doesn't
shy away from sentimentality but leaves enough slack for
blistering prog work outs.

and made history with their anti- racist / anti-fascist
stance at a time when many skinhead bands were fast becoming

Songs from the Year of Our Demise (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE

PS, US Best known as songwriter/guitarist/vocalist for
the POSIES & member of BIG STAR. First solo full-length
of original material. The record is at turns more gritty & more
lush, more atmospheric & more immediate, more universal & more
personal than anything he's done in the past. It reflects
the highs & lows of both a soaring exuberance & a
crushing fatalism. Keyboards, cellos, organs, chimes & gizmos
come 7 go while Jon's signature guitar work & angelic
voice consistently echo the emotional turmoil of the past
half decade.

Battiato, Franco
Pollution (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MAY 23RD)
PS, US Franco Battiato's wonderfully lively 1973 concept
album Pollution is an audaciously psychedelic album drawn
from the space rock dimension with good portions of electronics
and keyboard layers. Drawing heavily on the VCS3 synthesizer,
Battiato and company (besides himself, three backing band
members play synth as well) give Pollution an extreme electronic
edge. With comparisons to Ash Ra Tempel, Faust, and Pink
Floyd, Pollution was declared "genius" by Frank
Zappa. Extremely influential on the '90s Chicago post-rock
mafia. Original artwork. New detailed line
