Parasol Mail Order Pick of the Week

The Perishers "Victorious" CD (ON SALE) $16.00 (Nettwerk)
New album of soft-rock melancholies and soothing pop atmospheres from excellent Swedish mopes, who seduced Parasol with their majestic import debut 5 years ago, rekindled the flames with Let There Be Morning, had plenty of their songs featured in all the hot TV shows, and now emerge victorious (sorry, had to) with their new album, their second for Nettwerk. This has been in heavy rotation since the advance arrived (Roy’s a huge fan, he has played it 119 times by last count) and comes highly recommended. Sound samples on the front page.

Yalda
PS, POLAND A fabulous album from Amir Baghiri displaying a captivating virtuosity on a wide range of African, middle eastern and Asian percussion instruments. Ambience comes from the field recordings and found sounds, and everything's subtly processed to create a rich, exotic soundtrack that recalls old school masters like Zakir Hussain as well as the 'fourth world' music of Sun City Girls, Muslimgauze or Jon Hassell.

PS, BELGIUM Old things explains why it took Jessica Bailiff so long to put out her third record. This album brings you a collection of rarities and unreleased material, recorded between 1999 and 2002, whilst also working on her critically acclaimed records on Kranky. Some songs have the familiar sound of her first records (Alan Sparhawk of Low still plays on one of them), but already hint in the direction of the more folky current sound. track list: Your sounds make patterns in my eyes Helpless Warren (Home version) Shadow Crush, version 2 Amethyst depression Maybe tomorrow Let time breathe Nicholson square 2 For April Figure eight (For Jonathan)

Belott, Brian
Wipe That Clock Off Your Face
PS, US Brian Belott's first book is a compendium of all his disparate artistic practices-including collage, drawing, found photography and sound mixing-and it is also his first CD. The original CD/DVD included here offers the acclaimed Found Images, a digital slideshow of over 2000 photos with an exclusive full-length soundtrack of original sound collages. Assemblage permeates Belott's methods; he is a master of using cast-off and neglected ephemera to create new and surprising effects. The New York Times critic Holland Cotter calls the results "imaginatively inviting," and the Times' Roberta Smith calls them "radiant." The well-known painter Donald Baechler's foreword speaks to Belott's place in the realm of creation from found materials. Belott's world is like a trip through a funhouse of vernacular art: enter at your own risk.

Chico Hamilton Quintet & Fred Katz
Classical Katz
PS, UK Chico Hamilton Quintet & Fred Katz : Classical Katz along with the Modern Jazz Quartet, the Chico Hamilton Quintet with Fred Katz were the leading practitioners of chamber jazz, devoted to a mid-century blend of classical and jazz music that called itself third stream; it was the shape of things to come for progressive jazz. Eric Dolphy and Gabor Szabo were amongst the figures who would eventually work with Hamilton. Our set couples the entire, highly regarded album "Zen" by cellist Fred Katz where he is backed by Hamilton and the Quintet along with the highlights of the Quintet's own 1956 set. Both albums are highly sought after and long out of print. This Hamilton-Katz line-up would feature famously the following year (1957) in the Burt Lancaster- Tony Curtis film "The Sweet Smell Of Success"; a great cinematic moment in jazz. Clare & the Reasons
Movie
PS, US PREFIX MAG: "Between the new Edith Piaf biopic La Vie en rose and the five hundred other current movies inexplicably relating Paris) to romance, you'd think the world would have no need for another bohemian fix. Yet, the members of Clare & the Reasons plead for room with such earnestness on their debut that we must pause to take listen. Led by a chick with chirping charm (and as the daughter of folk/blues musician Geoff Muldaur, a distinguished musical lineage) and filled out by a posse of Brooklyn's finest, the group tiptoes lightly upon emotions and all that gushy stuff. On its sophisticated takes on the neo-baroque and quasi-noir, the group is joined here by such distinguished songwriting talent as Van Dyke Parks and Sufjan Stevens." (Dan Nishimoto)

Coathangers
S-T
PS, US Imagine if you will a marriage of the Beastie Boys circa Some Old Bullshit & the Slits when they were still a punk band & you're in the right ballpark. They're newcomers to Atlanta's vibrant punk, pop & experimental music scene, but the group has risen quickly through the ranks to become one of the city's most talked about acts. These women are real deal feminists, armed w/ a brash & irreverent sense of humor. They're more likely to be caught cracking jokes w/ Andrew W.K. than sharing tea & vegan cookies with Kathleen Hannaha's crew!

Electro Group
Good Technology
PS, US Comprised of "three like minded and cautiously optimistic gentlemen out to create and build songs culled from years of self-induced isolationism, sexual regret, and audio experimentation", Electro Group teamed up with local Sacramento imprint Omnibus Records (The Shins, Mates of State, Flake Music) to issue their 2001 debut, A New Pacifica. Its tracks surfaced on more than a few taste making college and community radio stations, and even made it to the play list of legendary BBC DJ John Peel. A slew of compilation appearances and side projects followed: Electro Group recorded a series of split 7- inches, teamed up with Pavement cofounder Gary Young for a cover of Sonic Youth's "100%," and bassist Ian Hernandez formed Holy Smokes with Pinback's Rob Crow and Hella's Zach Hill. Live appearances with Sleater-Kinney, Quasi and The Swords Project followed, as did a tour of the UK, and their next studio venture, the 2004 seven-track mini-album Ummo. With their second proper full-length, Good Technology, Electro Group had to destroy their conceptions of not only music, but also modern life in general, and reconstruct them from square one. While A New Pacifica explored a utopian society in the aftermath of California falling into the sea and Ummo queried, "Are we alone in the universe?" Good Technology finds Electro Group in a deconstructionist mindset. As Hernandez reveals, "Good Technology exhibits the natural songwriting and recording progression exhibited in our previous self recorded endeavors. Since those releases, a better understanding of multi-track recording and those techniques associated with the capture of and replication of those sounds on audio disk, helped provide a stronger foundation for the new record while still retaining those familiar audio properties." It's a rapidly changing world we live in, and the futuristic, guitar-driven fuzz-pop of Good Technology provides an ideal soundtrack for it. What more lies ahead? As guitarist/vocalist Tim Jacobson summarizes, "Great quality." Not to mention good technology.

Even As We Speak
A Three Minute Pop Song is One Minute Too Long
PS, UK A 17 track compilation of the rare Australian singles. "Even As We Speak relish life with a clutch of songs that evoke images of bright summer mornings in leafy suburbia" - Melody Maker "Even As We Speak are in possession of two qualities which set them apart from you average guitar-pop band: firstly, a total lack of pretense which gives them a decidedly casual, almost offhand stage presense (rarely do they ever dress up, let alone pose) and secondly, the striking songwriting talent of singer/guitaruist Matthew Love, the author of neat pop sogs that manage to be emotive, offbeat and very appealing in the classic sense". Tracklisting: 1 100 2 Pleasure Circles 3 Anybody Anyway 4 Brain 5 Outgrown 6 Goes So Slow 7 Nothing Ever Happens 8 A Stranger Calls 9 Blue Suburban Skies 10 Bizarre Love Triangle 11 Looking Over Your Shoulder 12 By The Side Of The Road 13 I Can Do Without You 14 Falling Down 15 I Won't Have To Think About You 16 Single To Central 17 Galveston.

PS, US A contempo 3 piece hailing out've Seattle feat.ex-members of A FRAMES & THE INTELLIGENCE.Originally released as a CD in '04, this shows a band burrowed deep in the mystery &menace of the nascent gnarl of experimental art rock. Ferrari, Luc
Didascalies (CD/DVD)
PS, US Now packaged w/ a DVD feat. him at work on this, his last experiment. He's considered one of the most legendary musical figures of the 20th century, whose work & aesthetic continues to influence several generations of contemporary composers. Right from the start, the idea had been to release 3 very different CDs: one horspiel, one of concrete music & one CD of instrumental works. Also documents the composition of a new version of "Tautologos," his last recorded piece, w/ woven piano & viola breaking down, starting anew in an opposite direction w/ bandoneon, DX7 & books being closed every 2 & a half min. About a month later, he passed away

Fourth of July
On the Plains
PS, US This is a Lawrence, Kansas band insofar as the signals sent from coast to coast get filtered through their eyes & ears, leaving them utterly clued-in yet carelessly left-out. The songs are full of intimate interactions, cutting observations & dreamy, heartfelt candor, but when brought to the band they explode into amplified urgency & bold, bright heartland-pop

From the time he was born, he was surrounded by music of all genres thanks to his eccentric classical-record-producer & pianist father, a Hari Krishna brother & 2 older sisters who were in various rock bands (his sister Juliette Commagere is the singer of L.A. indie band HELLO STRANGER in which Robert played bass)

Giantess
S-T
PS, US Formerly known as Canada's "The Battles". Giantess is a blistering exercise in profundity, veering wildly from accelerated rave-ups to introspective ballads that tug at the heart (often with tongue planted firmly in cheek). Giantess delivers with the poetic grandeur of Bryan Ferry or Graeme Downs at their absolute peak, and with the muscle & pathos of The Soft Boys or Jesus of Cool-era Nick Lowe. Giantess is first & foremost a relationship record that relies on sentiments both ridiculously absurd & vastly astute. A British influence looms large in Stephen Wood's brilliant songwriting- comparisons to Ray Davies & John Lennon are commonplace -in much the same way those pillars informed Robert Pollard's forays into songs. Likewise, Giantess' erstwhile approach thrusts the genre forward with liberal swaths of heart, wit, warmth, melody & raw power.

Golden Animals
Golden Animals EP
PS, US Brooklyn's Golden Animals deliver a meticulous recreation of L.A. in 1970, when The Byrds "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" had steeped in hipster consciousness and the counter-culture was embracing country music with a vengeance. From the warm, natural recording quality right down to the sepia-toned cover art dressed as (stoned) old west dandies, these guys are living the life! They are entering the studio in San Francisco with producer extraordinaire Chris Coady (Blonde Redhead, Yeah Yeah Yeah¹s, T.V. On The Radio) in late October to make a record for Happy Parts Recordings.

Golden Dogs
Big Eye Little Eye
PS, US Skirting the line between ready-for-TV pop addictiveness & grimy knife's-edge guitar bombast, the Canadian group seamlessly blends hooks & crunch into a bright, art-conscious swirl as catchy as it is cool. The band has torn a jagged rift through the clubs of Canada, jumping off amps & pushing PA's to their limit from Toronto to Vancouver. Hooky enough for the pop fiends, hard enough for the dope fiends.

Hawkwind
Space Ritual [collector's edition]
PS, US PITCHFORK: "Aside from Sun Ra, few artists captured that sense of mind-warping, my-God-it's-full-of-stars astronomical mysticism in their music like Hawkwind. With their tendency towards extended jams full of disorienting electronic drones and drummer Simon King's motorik rhythms, they had a certain creative kinship with their Krautrock contemporaries. But their racket could also be as unrelentingly punchy and violent as anything from the Stooges' Fun House, especially considering guitarist Dave Brock's Ron Asheton-esque affinity for blistering, wah-wah-drenched riffs and Nik Turner's freeform sax outbursts... It was all put to good use by their lyrics and their philosophy, much of which was inspired by the writing of sci-fi author and sometime collaborator Michael Moorcock, and typically themed around interstellar travel, metaphysics and Pythagoras' theory of celestial-mathematical "music of the spheres." ...The set has been expanded from its original "88 minutes of brain damage" (as a 1973 print ad hilariously put it) to just over two hours, with most of the added material devoted to a few alternate takes and the restoration of a few minutes here and there that had to be cut for the original United Artists double LP. (A bonus DVD includes the whole shebang in Dolby, and despite it being in PAL format, North American viewers should be able to hear it on their PCs or DVD players.)"

Liars
S-T
PS, US What do you expect from Liars? Noise? Concept? Both? This LP delivers neither! Recorded on the heels of 2006's 'Drum's Not Dead' somewhere between LA and Berlin, Liars' 4th album marks another bold transition for Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross. For the new album Liars have foregone theory for a more practical approach, one based on traditional song structures and instrument usage. Even mainman Angus is shocked! They've foregone theory for a more practical approach, one based on traditional song structures &instrument usage. An album that manages to balance the old, experimentally minded Liars w/ an excitingly insidious new pop edge.

Lionheart, Ferraby
Catch the Brass Ring (ON SALE)
PS, US VENUS MAGAZINE: "There is a boy called Ferraby Lionheart who lives in Los Angeles and plays songs that sound like early Rufus Wainwright. The 19-year-old grew up in Nashville, where people had a hard time pronouncing his name... [Later on,] in Los Angeles, Lionheart toiled away in a rock band called Telecast, but soon, he became uninspired, so he recorded some of the stripped-down, folk-inspired songs that he'd been writing by himself... An album of airy and pretty songs that perfectly soundtrack a day of playing in parks and on swings." And the rest, as they say, is history.

Magic Carpathians Project
Sonic Suicide #1
PS, POLAND MAGIC CARPATHIANS PROJECT's new release, Sonic Suicide, is as surprising and as challenging as every one of their previous albums. The figure of suicide designates the moment of closure and transformation, not far from orgasmic density and bodily pleasures of sounds on the album. The music here creates intense, vibrating, rhizomatic field of electric pulsations, drones and irregularities. This time Magic Carpathians Project's line up has been scaled down to just two of core members who have been establishing the name since 1998: ANNA NACHER (mistreated electric guitars, voice, lyrics, media manipulation and bastardization, loops, field recordings) and MAREK STYCZYNSKI (homemade analog sound modulator, field recordings, saxophone, clarinet, flutes, gongs, percussions). A prototype version of analog sound modulator--called badoog--which emits soundwaves of sinusoidal amplitude and frequencies reaching out beyond the standard range audible to human ear has been designed and built especially for this session. Anna Nacher sings, screams and soars both in English and Polish, occasionally inhabiting the space between languages or mixing up the dialects, idioms and pronunciations. Field recordings taken by the duo during their travels across Himalaya, Carpathians and Balkans are employed as signs of hybridic soundscape of cultural nomads, far from overproduced and colonized idioms of 'world music'. Only for the bravest of the bravest!

Manual
Lost Days, Open Skies and Streaming Tides
PS, US The long awaited Manual double-CD 'Lost Days, Open Skies and Streaming Tides' - a collection of rarities, remixes, covers, unreleased pieces and brand new tracks - including a new collaboration with Cocteau Twins mainman Robin Guthrie. Spanning the period from 2002, around Ascend, up to now, this is a collection that covers the entire spectrum of Jonas Munks stylings; from the minimalist drone soundscapes, to the over-the-top 1980s influenced shoegazing electronica à la his masterpiece Azure Vista, from the sweet pop-influenced gems to abstract blissed-out timeless ambient. Munk's trademarks are all over the 19 pieces on this double disc set: the highly adventurous sense of composition that is still so unheard of in electronic music - always taking the listener on a colourful journey instead of relying on repetitions like pretty much every other electronic artist -, the mix of well-programmed beats and electronics against surreal, shimmering, heavily treated guitars, and the sunbathed 1980s romantic melancholia that has become Jonas Munk's signature sound. It is hard to think of a more perfect introduction to Munk's music, and for fans of his work this is simply a must!

Mighty Baby
S-T [expanded] (ON SALE)
PS, UK Yet another genius recording from post-Action late-60s, early 70s UK psychedelic pop group Mighty Baby, comparable to early-Who, The Action (duh),The Creation, etc. Their original self-titled album plus 5 additional tracks by The Action. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "This hour-long CD is one of the best bodies of British psychedelia ever released. It contains the complete Mighty Baby album from Head Records, expanded to 13 tracks with the addition of five tracks cut by the Action during its 1967 transition period... The beauty of the original Mighty Baby album tracks is that they're psychedelia with a solid beat, none of that noodle-rock that drugged-up Brits usually engaged in...some of the most energetic psychedelia to come out of England, and anyone who enjoys psychedelic guitar will love Martin Stone's and Alan King's work on this album. A near perfect meld of garage rock and psychedelic sensibilities." (Bruce Eder)

Monster Movie
Last Night Something Happened
PS, US The debut album from Monster Movie - long out of print - has been rebirthed. Artwork has been revamped, a new catalog number has been assigned, and the bonus track from the long-OOP vinyl version of the album, previously unavailable on CD in the US, has been added. Written, performed & produced by Christian Savill & Sean Hewson, Last Night Something Happened was a landmark follow-up to their self-titled debut EP from early 2001. The album, recorded between March and August 2001 at The White House studio in Weston-Super-Mare with Martin Nichols engineering (also the birthplace of their debut EP as well as Slowdive's 'Souvlaki'), shows a move away from the layered guitars and strong vocals of the EP to a more somber, subdued & warm sound. Here the vocals are more often layered with Martin Wheeler & Louise Hewson, adding their vocals to those of the band, to create a ghostly, disembodied effect. The instrumentation is more varied here as well, with cheap keyboards and acoustic guitars mixing with radios, feedback & broken effects pedals to create a warm hum. As with the debut EP, the songwriting is still a strong point but Monster Movie have moved forwards, investigating instrumental songs (witness the cinematic 'Star City') and structure (a la the Faust-like sudden change in 'Winter Is Coming'). Everything on here has a great tune even when it is layers of noise, but the most obvious pop songs are 'Waiting', 'Shortwave', 'Take Me Away', '4th & Pine' & 'Home' with 'Sleeping On A Train' providing a change of pace & some rock action. Last Night Something Happened was a phenomenal precursor to the subsequent years of Monster Movie magic - and as such, remains their best work to date. Monster Movie were known to be collectively fond of Grandaddy, Air, Yo La Tengo & the Super Furry Animals during the recording of this album. They were also more likely to be influenced by their intense and occasionally psychotic dislike of most other rock music. Their individual tastes are not considered 'sexy' enough to be listed.

New Young Pony Club
Fantastic Playroom
PS, US It's a singular chemistry between front woman Tahita Bulmer and Andy Spence that's marked New Young Pony Club as one of 2007's most talked-about, must-hear, must-see bands. NYPC singles "Ice Cream" (used in a recent Intel commercial campaign) and "The Bomb" have already proved irresistible. And they have made good on Tahita and Andy's hopes: to put the fun back in music, and get people dancing. Now NYPC have done more than perhaps would be reasonably expected of a great singles band: they've made a great album, Fantastic Playroom. It's everything you hope every album is going to be. Packed with tunes, yes - but literate, funny, sad, just-weird-enough, crazy, sexy and cool to boot. (Sometimes, dancebased music forgets it's allowed to be all these things.) From an undeniable "Get Lucky"/"Hiding On The Staircase"/"Ice Cream"/"The Bomb" opening salvo to the potential-future-NYPC-direction and quite Grace Jones-y "FAN" via the overtly pop "Grey", it gets everything right.

Newell, Martin
A Summer Tamarind
PS, UK Martin Newell - The last English pop eccentric, brings out his first solo album for several years. Many people try for an authentic 60s sound, Newell actually lives it. This sunny-days mixture wears its Beatles / Kinks influences like a double-breasted paisley jacket is also surprisingly modern though. Contained herein are eleven bomb-proof three and a half-minute pop songs dressed with chiming Rickenbacker 12-string guitars, great garden-shed drumming and the type of gorgeous harmonies that no-one else bothers doing anymore. A Summer Tamarind is nothing less than a post-punk Rubber Soul and probably the best thing that Martin Newell has done since his Andy Partridge-produced Greatest Living Englishman album.

No Age
Weirdo Rippers
PS, US PITCHFORK: "A loud duo with art credibility, a massive touring schedule, and a one-man label in its ranks brings Lightning Bolt to mind; but No Age have a softer surf-psychedelic side that conjures another twosome: old Olympia favorites Kicking Giant. Or, as another Pitchfork staffer pointed out, the best K Records fuzz-rock band of all time, Lync. No Age, though, goes into an even airier, bedroom-pretty realm, with a punk rawness to their delivery. Their oft-chanted hooks (see "Boy Void" or "Every Artist Needs A Tragedy") are out-of-phase, the approach sloppy and spastic. At the same time, these songs come off soporific, restful, and totally in control. Nothing grates. It all feels soft and up-close."

Perishers
Victorious (ON SALE)
PS, US New album of soft-pop melancholies and majesties from excellent Swedish mopes. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "With their third album Victorious, The Perishers should finally put an end to the hackneyed references to their Swedish homeland, and the cliched use of such modifiers as "icy," "glacial," "glassy," et al. For this set is imbued with such warmth, its sound so glowing, that reviewers will have no choice but to look elsewhere for their adjectives. The Perishers can thank Per Sunding for that, his production bathing their music in luminescent, highlighting their fragile, exquisite atmospheres, and throwing into relief their sublime instrumental interplay... Victorious' true glory is found in the richness of the sound, the iridescent melodies, shimmering atmospheres, and Ola Kluft's introspective, yet universal lyrics. With Victorious, The Perishers truly conquer all." (Jo-Ann Greene)

Avant-Dernières Pensées: Selected Piano Works features several of Satie's best known compositions, including the famously poised Trois Gymnopédies, all six haunting Gnossiennes and Je te veux, as well as more experimental pieces such as Descriptions automatiques, Avant-dernières pensées and Sports et divertissements, an extraordinary collection of 21 miniatures from 1914 with illustrations by Charles Martin. Also included is Satie's single-act, neo-Dada lyric comedy Le Piège de Médusa, and comprising 'seven tiny dances for Jonah the Monkey' and illustrated by the Cubist painter Georges Braque. Sally O'Gannon
PS, US "Debut single from these London-based Brazilians...Insanely catchy chorus + Incredibly Loud guitars + perfect pop music." - New Musical Express, UK The Tamborines are a Brazilian born London based fuzz rock band. Their debut US release, "Sally O'Gannon" EP (PSRCD-042) has been a long awaited affair but one you will agree was well worth the wait. The CD contains four adventurous tracks - the fuzzy guitar intro and thumping drums make "Sally O'Gannon" an instant pop classic. The soft acoustics and sweet melodies of the AA-side "Be Around" show you The Tamborines aren't just about noisy guitars. The psychedelic garage pop atmospheres of "Come Together" drift throughout - capping it off with a hip mid 60's guitar break. That most hallucinogenic of all films, Fellini's "Toby Dammit" is featured with a selection from Nino Rota's famous score along with a panorama of superlative performances and rare recordings from such masters as Morricone, Piero Piccioni and Umiliani, Berto Pisano and Claudio Gizzi (former music director for the films of Andy Warhol) who's main title for Roman Polanski's notorious "What?" is included here in digital format for the first time. Various Artists
Nowe:Le
PS, POLAND A electronic compilation from Poland's Vivo label, Nowe:le has tagged itself as being psychedelically ambient, coldly computerized, ethnical experimentronic, and heat addled by a passage through the Texan desert. "Nowele" is Polish for "short stories" and the seven artists represented here (hailing from Japan, Poland, and the United States) offer eleven sonic shorts, which are meant to unfold behind your eyes. Nowe:le starts off with a bubbling glitch track from Maciek Szymczuk. "Uruk" simmers with electrical signals, some popping and crackling like exploding molecules, while other currents string themselves together into swirling, darting melodies. "Uruk" is a petri dish dance party seen through an electron microscope.

VHS or Beta
Bring on the Comets
PS, US Louisville's VHS OR BETA makes its boldest move yet with the release of their third full-length album, Bring On The Comets. Bring On The Comets provides heartfelt anthems with a newfound discovery of musical freedom, a shedding of previous expectation and boundary, and an undeniable return to pop music. The first single, "Can't Believe A Single Word," is a storming piano-driven mini-epic, with Pfunder's soaring, dramatic vocals swelling to a fist-pumping chorus. The title track, is a grand, slide-guitar infused larger-than-life adventure."Fall Down Lightly," vitally captures every element of VHS OR BETA's revamped new sound: here, discordant punk-funk mutates into a classic filter-disco groove, giving way to a startlingly catchy chorus describing a relationship's tumble into l'amour fou. VHS OR BETA-today a trio comprising core members vocalist/guitarist Craig Pfunder, bassist Mark Palgy and drummer Mark Guidry- recorded Bring On The Comets with up-and-coming producer Brendan Mason (Secret Machines, David Bowie) in Asheville, NC and Nashville, TN.

White Rainbow
Prints of Eternal Now
PS, US After years of outer space exploration in YUME BITSU & SURFACE OF ECEYON, as well as stints as a hired gun for a multitude of artists incl. Dirty Projectors, Jackie-O Motherfucker & Devendra Banhart, he decided to turn his focus inward & began to record solo material. At a somewhat brief 71 min., this pulses & flows w /mantric chants, clattering percussions, sighing sustains & guitar leads unashamed of their scorching transcendence. He breathes new life into archaic sub-genres such as progrock, new age,& hippie folk incantations, while never stooping to the negative aspects of any of them, & remaining a step ahead of the technologically crippled & virtuosuo-less looper pedal scene.

Zenial
Reworked
PS, POLAND The very fact that Polish digi-sound explorer Lukasz Szalankiewicz's debut release (beyond the few compilation appearances so far garnered) amounts to a collection of reworkings of his material by artists whom he either respects or shares his mission with appears to make far more sense than going it alone to try and stake out his position. As such, collaborative pieces with Kasper T. Toeplitz, Andrew Duke and others run alongside remixes by Kazuyuki K. Null, Vidna Obmana, Andrew Lagowski, Amir Baghiri, Tetsuo Furudate, Zbigniew Karkowski and Zenial himself. Most of these, in turn, subscribe to the notion of exorcising new glacial shapes from the material sourced, but it's actually during the more rhythmic settings of Vidna Obmana's "Palsecam Theme (Recycled)' and Amir Baghiri's 'Ilustracja#1/E-nimalic' that things take on a more muscular life of their own.

Acid Mothers Guru Guru
Psychedelic Navigator (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 18TH)
PS, US AcidMothersGuruGuru features Mani Neumeier from the legendary and influential German Krautrock group Guru Guru as well as Kawabata Makoto and Atsushi Tsuyama from Japan's holy Acid Mothers Temple. The result is a fiery fantasy filled, loud/soft, colorful trans-generational psychedelic collaboration. The Acid Mothers Guru Guru started in a spontaneous session in March of 2006 in Nagoya, Japan. When the improvisation commenced the passionate excitement was clear to all in the room and it was then that this special psychedelic trio began. A Japanese tour was planned, an album was recorded and this recording is the fruit of this mutual musical admiration. While all involved will admit that this is a dream of collaborations it was the Acid Mothers Temple guys who were worshipping Guru Guru in their teens. The Acid Mothers Guru Guru is two generations of psychedelic rock joining forces for the 21st century.

Allen, Daevid
Good Morning! (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 11TH)
PS, UK In 1975, following his departure from GONG, the highly influential group he had founded, Daevid Allen sought musical solace in the village of Deja on the island of Mallorca. Here he encountered a group of Catalan musicians, Euterpe, with whom Allen began collaborating. Recorded in Mallorca, the album "GOOD MORNING" was released by Virgin Records in 1976 to great acclaim, being a unique work that was regarded by fans and critics as being equally as good as anything he recorded with GONG, if not better. Filled with Allen's startling original musical observations, "GOOD MORNING" appeared briefly on CD in the early 1990's and vanished quickly. Long sought after by the legions of GONG / DAEVID ALLEN followers, ESOTERIC RECORDINGS is proud to announce the reissue of this album with fully restored artwork and superb 24-bit digitally remastered sound. THE FIRST EVER OFFICIAL CD RELEASE FOR THIS CLASSIC ALBUM IN SIXTEEN YEARS.

Walls (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE SEPTEMBER 11TH)
PS, US ON DOUBLE VINYL! It describes a circle that pulls many elements together into a protected, enclosed space where they jostle & roam free: strings & mallet instruments; rock guitar & gravelly sawtooth synths; stuttering digital percussion & muscular studio drumming. What might be most striking about is the way it creates a kind of single, sustained mood; this is an album for listening to all in one go, front to back. This is one of those road-trip records, one of those coming-down records, one of those bedding-down records.

Askew, Ed
Little Eyes (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE OCTOBER 9TH)
PS, US Recorded in one continuous take in NYC, 1970. Made with little more than magnetic tape, Ed's voice, and the stunningly modern arrangements of his beloved Martin Tiple, "Little Eyes" is as grand, sad, and beautiful a statement as can be expressed. His off-key lilt hangs like a seductive pink mist, and settles deeply; you'll hear these songs long after they're over. Attempting to publicize an unreleased record, Ed did a string of radio gigs between NY and New Haven, and the best of them are collected here. Lovely and wild.
