AM Syndicate
Liberation
PS, US Sophomore effort from Austin TX based band. Formed in the Spring
2004 by Omar Chavez of RHYTHM OF BLACK LINES, AM Syndicate's sound
is a constantly evolving musical experiment - both catchy and challenging
- which is often described as a cross between the Arcade Fire and
the Animal Collective. "The mesmerizing lushness that has always
propelled AM Syndicate's music is pervasive and all-encompassing on
Liberation. (The album) is a musical force that deserves recognition."

sprawling through guitar riffs spanning deep electronic canyons overlooked
by a melancholic grey sky. A journey leading to discovery & a
final mutation. All players delicately playing off each other, creating
a mesmerizing work that sounds like nothing they have done before
yet still retaining the audio signatures they have become known for.

Apples In Stereo
Her Wallpaper Reverie [re-issue]
PS, US Re-issue. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "the band's most overtly psychedelic
record, it's also their most experimental, achieving a near-perfect
balance between candy-colored popcraft and musique concrète-influenced
interludes. In a sense, the disc is a response to the grand ambitions
of fellow Elephant 6-ers Olivia Tremor Control and their likeminded
Black Foliage album, but the Apples' integration of Beatlesque melodies
and experimental noises is much more seamless; not only are Her Wallpaper
Reverie's songs the best Robert Schneider's yet written, but they're
produced with a new richness of detail -- from the wonderfully Lennon-esque
"Strawberryfire" to the Kinks-ish "Ruby," the
music positively shimmers."

Fun Trick Noisemaker [re-issue]
PS, US Re-issue. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "One of the defining albums
of the mid-'90s indie scene, the Apples in Stereo's full-length debut
is one of those records that marks a sea change in musical attitudes,
akin to Mudhoney's "Touch Me I'm Sick" or Pavement's early
singles... The album that defines the post-grunge indie pop shift
from sullen negativity into a kind of cockeyed, giddy optimism, and
is also among the handful of albums that turned Brian Wilson, Arthur
Lee, and Burt Bacharach into cool names to drop at the record store...
Fun Trick Noisemaker is a minor masterpiece."Also available on

full-length album is a return to their early-'60s Beatlesque sound...
Robert Schneider's lyrics are more emotional and personal here than
on earlier releases, and the added intimacy, as well as the musical
layers, make The Discovery of a World Inside the Moone an intricate,
poignant lunar trip."

Aspen Woods
New World Disorder
PS, US Aspen Woods debut 70 minute 10 track debut LP will be released
on Razorblade records (home of Bristol shoegazers Secret Shine www.secretshine.co.uk
and liverpudlian acoustic artist Vincent Callan). Covering subjects
ranging from the ritual sacrifice of Princess Diana in 'Passing of
a Moon Goddess' to the unbreakable mother and son bond in 'The Witch's
Son', the woods have recorded as much of the album as possible live
using traditional recording techniques, to capture the guts and spirit
of their live shows much the same way as the bands influences would
have done so in the hazy 60s and 70s. Latchman Manghat (whose previous
works include the celebrated great lost HEADS psychedelic album and
Julian Cope favorite 'At last' that was 'er never... lost!) at Rolling
Rex Studios has engineered and expertly, painstakingly co-produced
the album with the band. For the Woods its as much about the journey
as well the destination, just like how you choose to live your life
- there are too many people prepared to step on too many people to
get to where they want - only to realize their not happy when they
get there. Getting where you want is nothing without putting in the
hard graft to feel the satisfaction. People want things to easy in
this day an age, without being prepared to work for it or care about
who they step on the way. US distribution has been secured with Tonevendor,
and the band are now seeking UK distribution aiming for a February
29th '08 release date and live dates to be announced throughout 2008
after the band return from the US. Homing their psychedelic crafts
on a fruitful Bristolian live scene. The band have played memorable
psychedelic hypnotic wig out sets at the legendary Espionage club
and the world famous Cube cinema (check the live footage over at www.aspenwoods.co.uk)
and have supported a wide variety of bands from Italian space rockers
UFO Mammut to Japan's instrumental wonders Mono. Marketing plans for
the album will be advertisements and media assault on the major alternative
music press UK and US.

Autechre
Quaristice
PS, UK New album of clicktronica from veteran ambienteers. ALL MUSIC
GUIDE: "at 73 minutes in length, most of the 20 tracks are more
like vignettes, yet the ideas arrive fully formed, never appearing
to be dashed off or loosely sketched. The variety of ideas is nearly
imposing, the best of which include the deadened chiming and clanging
of "Simmm," the stealth jitter of "Tankakern,"
the Drexciya-worthy pitch-black neo-electro of "Rale," and
the handful of stunning and duly swarthy ambient tracks -- especially
the closing 12 minutes shared by the chilling "Notwo" and
"Outh9x" tandem. A couple moments, unsurprisingly, border
on the inscrutable, with "Fol3" sounding like a collage
of car collisions and slammed doors smeared and backmasked for nearly
four minutes, and "bnc Cstl" more like a hyper-speed gag
of sound effects, its high hats and snares tucked deeply into the
mix. While it can take some time to get a handle on its generous stream
of components, Quaristice is far from just another Autechre album.
Not since LP5 has being impressed been so obviously secondary to enjoyment."

Basinski, William + Richard Chartier
Untitled 1-3
PS, US LINE is proud to release this new updated and remastered version
of William Basinski and Richard Chartier's universally acclaimed work
Untitled 1-2. Originally released in 2004 on the noted Japanese label
Spekk, the original edition of 1300 sold out within 2 months. This
new version Untitled 1-3 includes two new works 'Untitled 3' and 'Untitled
3 (reprise)' and has been remastered with care by Taylor Deupree.
"Untitled 1" contains Chartier elements from 1991-1992 and
Basinski elements from 2003 using the Voyetra 8. "Untitled 2"
contains Chartier elements from 2003 and Basinski tape loops from
1981 and 2001 using the Voyetra 8. "Untitled 3/3(reprise)"
contains Chartier elements from 1993 and the 2006 sound installation
Mixing Desk commissioned for the Bleeding Edge Festival at the Montalvo
Arts Center in Saratoga, California and Basinski elements from 1997
using the Voyetra 8. "Untitled 3" mixed by Basinski. "Untitled
3(reprise)" mixed by Chartier. "Richard and I became friends
after meeting at Tonic in NY when he and Taylor Deupree did a show
with Carsten Nicolai. He contacted me about a possible collaboration
and sent me a track which I thought was very rich and harmonically
similar to something I had recently been working on, a very swampy,
dark piece I was calling "The Garden of Brokenness" after
a very beautiful new installation by James Elaine. I popped it into
pro tools with my piece and something really special was happening,
so I spent a few weeks weeding my track, trying different things...eventually
I stripped it way down and we were both quite happy with the result.
Richard came up to NY and we fine tuned it a bit together and it was
done. Since the piece had changed quite a bit we decided not to use
that title for this piece. He then sent me another one and again,
it just worked with something else I had been working on...the second
track came together very quickly, and there you have it! I love Richard's
work...very elegant, like the man!" - William Basinski. Both
William Basinski and Richard Chartier have been digging through their
archival matter as of late. In fact, the majority of Basinski's recent
output is the result of his discoveries, including his profound Disintegration
Loops series. Chartier, meanwhile, based his recent production Archival1992
upon two older pieces evolved into a single-minded composition of
subtle disquiet. LIMITED EDITION: 1000

Bauhaus
Go Away White
PS, UK New album! 'Go Away White' is everything you would hope Bauhaus
would deliver as their final statement. Fronted by a cover photo of
Bethesda, the angel of the healing waters in New York's Central Park,
the music inside is pure cathartic renovation, a psychedelic glimpse
into an enchanted moment. Aided in part by guitarist Daniel Ash's
inspired use of Jimi Hendrix's own personal Vox wah wah pedal, gifted
to him by Peter Murphy at the start of the sessions, it is pop as
much as it is experimental. The 10 songs on 'Go Away White' channel
the kind of magic timelessness you could imagine on a mighty bill
with Joy Division, Bowie, Devo, the Creatures, Antony, My Bloody Valentine,
and Kraftwerk--with Oscar Wilde playing master of ceremonies. NME:

Beach House
Devotion
PS, US The familiar organs, slide guitars & reverb are intact
but they offer some new directions here. Having developed their craft
exponentially since last year's debut, their new record is a crisp
recording that showcases a set of fuller & richer songs, with
the band taking the pop duo format to the limit. ALL MUSIC GUIDE:
"With Devotion, Beach House prove once again that they're one
of the more strangely named bands around. Their music is so lonely,
so haunting, that the only beach house it evokes is a deserted one,
stranded on a winter night so desolate that summer isn't even a memory.
Then again, that atmosphere is precisely what made Beach House's self-titled
debut so striking, and Devotion is even more so, since Victoria Legrand
and Alex Scally bring more focus, depth, and warmth to their unmistakable
sound... Like Beach House, Devotion sounds like it was made for, and
possibly in, the dead of night. This time, though, Beach House's dark
moods have more shades, and even a little bit of light, making them
all the more compelling."

Beequeen
Sandancing
PS, US After the by now usual gap of some two years, Beequeen is ready
to present their latest album, further maturing their sound from 'The
Bodyshop' (also on Important Records). More song based, this album
features new vocals by Olga Wallis solely (with some backing by Freek
Kinkelaar). Well-rounded popsongs in some places, but Beequeen never
forgets to put in some strange element, without leaping in the dark
alley of pointless experiment. Orchestral in 'The Illogical Song',
collage like in 'The Edie Three Step' or a simple rhythm machine in
'The Honeythief'. Beequeen does all, and with great care and seemingly
ease. This album features also the help of Barry Gray, former (and
first) guitarist of The Legendary Pink Dots, and would not have been
the album that is without the invaluable production skills of Erik
Drost.

Bitcrush
Epilogue in Waves
PS, US '"Epilogue in Waves" is the third album from n5MD
main-man Mike Cadoo's ever evolving Bitcrush moniker. The album is
the soundtrack to a story which begins with a sense of hope, but whose
undercurrents pull you to the end you feared. Epilogue in Waves marks
the end of Cadoo's "wading in the ocean" thematic metaphor
for lost time that constituted the backbone of his previous album,
"In Distance." As his self-described "rock record,"
the album eschews some of Cadoo's previous electronic methodologies
for a more stripped-down songwriting style which utilizes only guitars,
basses and drums. This experiment in the basics has led to a sonically
rich release that still contains those warm musical crevices to find
solace in. Epilogue in Waves will please fans of previous works by
Bitcrush as well as neophytes to Cadoo's brand of emotional and sometimes
epic songwriting.

Boy Omega
Hope On The Horizon
PS, SPAIN On "Hope on the Horizon", Boy Omega (Swedish genius
Martin Henrik Gustafsson) follows up his critically acclaimed 2006-albums
"The Black Tango" and "The Grey Rainbow", with
yet another impressive collection of songs that showcase the growth
of his songwriting. As always when you hear a new Boy Omega-record,
there's something new going on. This time it's a lot less electronic
than before. This is something warm and analog, featuring big walls
of strings, horns, acoustic pianos etc. It sounds melancholic and
drenched with the bitter beauty of life. Besides from recording "Hope...",
releasing two albums, a tour-cd (feat. 15 rare tracks and covers),
two singles, the split CD "If we were oceans" and appearing
on the Magnetic Fields tribute CD "Our love is meaningless",
Boy Omega also managed to play more than 60 shows in 2006. Germany,
Austria, The Netherlands and the UK were frequently visited. In the
summer they played the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, The End of
the road festival in the UK along with artists such as Ryan Adams,
Ed Harcourt and Badly Drawn Boy. They also did shows together with
Isobel Campbell, Akron/Family, The Hidden Cameras and Jason Collett.

Bryars, Gavin
Hommages
PS, UK Remastered. Originally released in November 1981 on Les Disques
du Crepuscule, Hommages was recorded in Leicester in February 1981
and produced by noted Belgian new music composer Wim Mertens. The
album was conceived as a series of diverse homage's to other composers,
which include Bill Evans (My First Homage), Ferruccio Busoni and Gustav
Holst (The English Mail-Coach and The Vespertine Park) and Percy Grainger
(Hi-Tremolo). Featured musicians included Andrew Bilham, Ronald Reah,
Andrew Renshaw, Nigel Shipway, Dave Smith, John White and Marie Wilson,
as well as Gavin Bryars himself on piano and vibraphone. The album
is the only one that documents the important period between Bryars'
early experimental music and later works from Medea onwards, as well
as his enthusiasm for small composer/performer ensembles. The new
63 minute digital remaster of Hommages now includes two bonus tracks
composed and recorded by Bryars during the same period: Danse Dieppoise,
and the lengthy piano piece Out of Zaleski's Gazebo. The booklet features
extensive notes by Gavin Bryars on the origin and performance of all
six pieces, and preserves the original album cover artwork by Marc

Cash, Brent
How Will I Know If I'm Awake (ON SALE)
PS, GERMANY The Marina label presents the debut release from Athens,
GA-based Brent Cash. Sounding like a lost sunshine pop classic from
the '60s, How Will I Know If I'm Awake is overflowing with hook-laden
choruses, multi-layered vocal harmonies and lush, sophisticated arrangements.
It's the sound of endless summers and good vibrations. From the start,
multi-instrumentalist Cash decided to record his songs like "they
did it back then," hiring the best musicians in town and assembling
a mini-orchestra featuring strings, brass and even a harp. The results
are simply stunning. From the opening chords of "Everything That's
Grey," we enter melody wonderland, a place where major 7 chords
rule and beautiful vocal harmonies dazzle your mind. "Digging
The Fault Line" is full of Byrds guitar jangle, sounding like
the perfect soundtrack to cruise into golden California sunsets (with
a great Wes Montgomery-like guitar solo along the way). "Only
Time" explodes with 100 % fat-free youthful euphoria -- Roger
Nichols meets The 5th Dimension. While deeply rooted in '60s songwriting
-- influenced by Bacharach, Wilson, McCartney, and yes, The Monkees
-- Cash certainly has his own unique signature style. Just listen
to "And Had We Ever?" and "I Think I'm Falling In Love"
-- with its complex, enchanting textures, ignoring conventional song
structures. "Love Is Burning Down Tonight" -- a striking
duet between Brent and Amanda Kapousouz -- is a special highlight
of the album, while "Good Morning Sunshine" could be the
theme song to the best TV series in the world -- the harpsichord-driven
piece is chock-full of amazing twists and turns of melodic beauty.
"This Sea, These Waves" moves us into bossa nova territory
-- starting off in a classic Getz/Gilberto mould, the song soon morphs
into heavenly orchestrated Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 elegance.
"More Than Everything," clocking in at over six minutes,
ends this beautiful song circle with a great final statement about
overcoming heartbreak, delivered with the sincerity of a Carpenters
record. Music made the way it was meant to be heard.

Club 8
Strangely Beautiful + 5
PS, SWEDEN Reissue. Labrador is proud to present the fourth of four
CD album re-issues by one of Sweden's most influential indie pop bands.
Club 8s fifth album "Strangely beautiful" is released with
original artwork and nothing less than five (5) bonus tracks. "Strangely
beautiful" was the last of three albums in Club 8's productive
peak between 2001 and 2003. Within a time frame of less than two years
the band managed to release three full-length albums and two Eps without
ever losing on quality. Quite the opposite, "Strangely beautiful"
was by many considered their best album to date. "Strangely Beautiful
is Club 8's best and most varied record to date...on this album, the
band's trademark blend of soft indie pop guitars, perky dance beats,
melancholy synthesizers, and sweet and innocent vocals remains intact,
but Johan Angergard, the chief architect of Club 8's sound, seems
to have spent some effort trying to expand their sound a little. The
work pays off handsomely and the album sounds full of life and energy."
ALL MUSIC Their previous album "Spring came, rain fell"
had been a very diverse history ranging from electronica and dub to
acoustic pop. Therefor it came natural for Club 8 to move in the opposite
direction on their next album and make a more homogeneous album. "Strangely
beautiful" mostly revolved around guitar based and melancholic
pop music. But there was, as always, tracks that stood out as completely
different from the rest. And in typical Club 8 manner this track,
"Saturday night engine", was chosen to be the single. This
noisy and Northern Soul-inspired track was a clear forerunner to The
Legends "Up against the Legends". But that's another story.

The Friend I Once Had + 6
PS, SWEDEN Reissue. With a glittery mix of jangly guitars, bossa nova
and sophisticated, melancholic pop melodies, "The Friend I Once
Had" was a big step forwards for Club 8. Their debut album "Nouvelle"
may be regarded, as a twee pop classic by some but the band would
happily rather bury most the songs under a rock. This is the album
they wish was their debut. "All bubble-pop, break beats, and
xylophones, Friend I Once Had was a step forward from the fey gestures
Club 8 had once been known for." ALL MUSIC GUIDE "...showcases
lusher, bouncier songs suitable for both easy listening and sophisticated
grooving .... music that you will immediately cherish..." CMJ
"It is absolutely essential to own at least one Lp by this group.
I'd probably suggest this one as the place to start, but you really
can't go wrong." 10 + INDIESPINZONE "The friend I once had"
was not only a first step towards the band's characteristically elegant,
yet melancholic, "Club 8 - sound"; it was a step towards
a much bigger (and possibly wider) audience. The album gained critical
success and reached thousands of new listeners in the US, Europe and
Japan and they even had a minor hit with the single "Missing
you". Ironically, this is the only song from the album parts
of the band can no longer stand. "The Friend I Once Had"
celebrates 10 years and remains a minor Swedish pop classic. A must
have for just about anyone genuinely interested in quality POP.

Club 8
Spring Came, Rain Fell + 5
PS, SWEDEN Reissue. Labrador is proud to announce the third of four
CD album re-issues by Sweden's kings & queens of happysad indie
pop. Club 8s third album "Spring came, rain fell" is released
with original artwork and five (5) bonus tracks. "Spring came,
rain fell" was the start of a whole new era for Club 8. They
had just bought their own recording equipment and started the now
famous Summersound Studio together with fellow band Acid House Kings
and from this a whole new level of creativity emerged. You can tell
Club 8 enjoyed their newly found freedom with a studio of thier own.
"Spring came, rain fell" is sparkling of experimental lust.
Without ever losing their touch for seductive pop melodies Club 8
here produces songs and sounds ranging from dub and electronica to
smokey trip hop and folky and acoustic pop. They did everything just
because they could do it and because they loved doing. "Club
8 use the studio to bring the best out in every song ... shafts of
melodica shine a light through Komstedt's dewy fatalism. It may be
bleak, but you can't stop returning." - MOJO "As summer
slips away, wallow in some Scandinavian sadness with this Swedish
duo's wonderfully soothing (UK) début." - TIME OUT (London)

Club 8 + 2
PS, SWEDEN Reissue. Labrador is proud to present the second of four
CD album re-issues by Sweden's melancholic pop heroes. Club 8s self-titled
third is released with original artwork and two (2) bonus tracks.
It took three years from the previous album "The friend I once
had" to the release of "Club 8" and listening to the
albums after one and another it's obvious how much they'd changed
in absence. This album definitely moved the band in a new direction.
And you can tell directly from the first song on "Club 8".
"Love in december" is breathtaking, soulful pop imbued by
dark Scandinavian winter atmosphere and bittersweet melancholy. "If
a lover's arms were as soft and sultry as the music on Club 8, returning
to them again and again would pose little conflict, and the same goes
for slipping into Club 8." ROLLING STONE

Coltrane, John
Turning Point
PS, UK Over the all too brief 40 years of his life, John Coltrane
had a profound and far-reaching effect on the world of jazz and beyond.
Yet acclaimed as he already was after spells as a sideman with giants
such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk, it was only
in 1957 that his musical vision began to truly find focus. The "spiritual
awakening" of which he spoke prompted him to make wholesale changes
in his lifestyle. Out, went the bad habits that had made many fears
for his life, to be replaced by an all-consuming quest to make music
that transcended national and cultural boundaries, bringing both player
and listener to a state of connectedness with God. This edition illustrates
that landmark year with selections from four important sessions; collaborations
and first dates as leader with Tadd Dameron, Kenny Burrell, Tommy
Flanagan and Red Garland. The listener will find abundant evidence
of one of jazz's undisputed greats demonstrating total mastery of
the music that succored him through his early years - blues, swing,
bebop - and already beginning to hunger for fresh challenges. Coltrane's
eclectic attitudes, encouraged by his friendship with Ravi Shankar,
would soon inspire The Byrds ('Eight Miles High'), Jimi Hendrix, The
Grateful Dead, The Doors, Tom Verlaine, The Stooges. Mating Call /

Corsano, Chris
The Young Cricketer
PS, US "The Young Cricketer" is CHRIS CORSANO'S debut of
Frankenstein/gamelan skin detail. It's a monster and a babe all wrapped
under the guise of "The Solo Drum Album". Corsano's flea-market
kit of cast-iron pot lids, super-bouncy-balls on sticks, butter knives,
and even a sax mouthpiece jammed-in-a-hose conjures a part rhythmic
maelstrom, like a Milford Graves drip painting, and the sweet metallic
ice drones of Tony Conrad and Keiji Haino rubbing sticks together
until end days. Globally known for a dozen scorched/power jazz sessions
with sax blower Paul Flaherty and a cadre of collaborators and groups
(Jandek, Bjork, Jim O'Rourke, Dream/Aktion Unit, Vampire Belt, Michael
Flower, Dredd Foole, etc.), Corsano's drumming has leapt from post-hardcore
explorations into outrageous, primeval and outright futuristic depth
during his past 10 years of recorded documentation. This LP is a field
recording of wire, skin, metal and soul -- not tunes for yr neighbor's
bongo party. Originally issued on Corsano's own Hot Cars Warp label
as a CDR, this LP IS REMASTERED AND ISSUED IN A 600 EDITION.

Crabapples
Crabapples For Change
PS, US Inspired equally by '78-'79 punk (Buzzcocks, Swell Maps) and
'80s and '90s pop (This Poison!, Television Personalities, Boyracer),
The Crabapples were a tough little Bay Area four-piece that exploded
briefly on the scene a few years back. Loud but melodic, their specialty
was short, catchy tunes played with sloppy abandon. Live shows clocked
in at around 15 minutes and this 4-song EP is an ideal keepsake of
The Crabapples effervescent charms. From the mod-ish pogo of "Quality
(Not Quantity)" to the angular "The Earnest Young Man Song"
to the full-on near-hardcore of "Crabapples For Change"
this great EP rushes along in a breathless blur, fuelled by lager,
explosive tunes and a love of great pop. The band included members
of The Frenchmen and Black Tambourine, and this single is sure to
please all fans of scrappy punk-ish pop. All copies pressed on colored
vinyl in a hand-stamped sleeve.

Dot Tape Dot
Tomavistas: (Selected Rarities 2002-2007)
PS, US Daniel Romero is a multi-faceted musician based in Asturias,
north of Spain. In a very short time he has molded a very personal
discourse based on constructing low-budget electronic pop with lo-fi,
toy instruments, combined with stunning homemade visuals. "Tomavistas"
is something like an old video camera - literally taking in and recording
the landscapes of contemplative, visual sound. It is a collection
of Daniel Romero's rarities and personal favorites recorded as dot
tape dot, spanning the years 2002 - 2007. "Tomavistas" is
born of love of the domestic flavor of the "underground"
and the pleasure derived spending time making music for this scene.
Considering the difficulty for listeners to find these tracks, it
became time to compile them along with other, little known pieces
and clears out space for a new personal stockpile to be built. These
12 tracks are taken from limited edition compilations, vinyl only
releases and "unofficial" albums, from labels in France,
Germany, Spain, Japan, Mexico, UK and Canada. This collection is intended
to serve as a retrospective for fans, highlighting different musical

Dreamers, The

PS, SWEDEN The Dreamers are an Anglo/Swedish duo featuring Sarah Nyberg
Pergament (Action Biker) and Kevin Wright (Always and Mr. Wright,
on él, Le Grand Magistery and Siesta). After meeting at a Swedish
music festival in 2004, the pair began making music together via London,
Stockholm and Helsinki, and fusing jazz pop, bossanova, and soundtrack
music. With "Day for Night" the Dreamers have made--to paraphrase
Michel Legrand on Tom Jobim- the sad music that makes the world a
better place. Influences: Stan Tracey, Caetano Veloso, Colleen, Francoise
Hardy, Kryzystof Komeda, Matching Mole, Anna Karina, Bill Evans, Monica

Snafu
PS, UK East of Eden's second album, "Snafu" was originally

dominated the music, leading eventually to Arbus playing the infamous

PS, US END.USER is one of the cornerstones of the modern eclectic
electronic music. Support from BBC Radio's Mary Anne Hobbs and a list
of DJs too long to fit on a one sheet, from many different genres,
and releases across many platforms have built him into a juggernaut.
A usually prolific artist, having recorded for Hymen, Ad Noiseam,
Sublight, Cargo, and many others, he took 2007 off, working on something
very special - his debut album on Ohm Resistance. Having relocated
to San Francisco, a new lease on his creative power is demonstrated
adroitly over the entire album. Album: left shows the most range of
END.USER's album making career. Intensely personal, intensely musical,
and just plain INTENSE at points, the album showcases a spectacular
array of skills across the board. From radio play material ("black
light") with Aussie vocalist Sol Thomas, to collaborations with
and remixes by influential electronic acts SCORN and COUNTERSTRIKE,
to absolutely stunning, no boundaries drum n bass, the album is diverse
and full of powerful compositions. Compelling from start to finish,

English, Lawrence/Ai Yamamoto
Plateau
PS, US Over the past three years Ai Yamamoto and Lawrence English
have been exploring the ideas and linkages between field recordings,
texture and minimal electronics. Occasionally crossing paths around
Australia and sharing the odd live performance together, the duo realized
they shared a strong interest in the character of sound and the creation
of sonic works that carry a strong sense of suggested narrative and
memory (both invented and real). On Plateau, they create evocative
and generously textured passages of sound that mask gentle field recordings
collected across the globe including Yamamoto's home prefecture of
Nara, Japan where English also spent time. Considered In worldwide
as the "Bible" of modern, cutting edge and new music and
in publication now for over 20 years is the U.K. monthly magazine,
The Wire, here is what they had to say upon review of "Plateau"
in the February 2006 edition: A man of many collaborations, Lawrence
English joins fellow Australian sound artist Ai Yamamoto for Plateau,
a somber album of impressionist fragments connected more by mood and
ambience than by movement and composition. As in his previous work
with Tujiko Noriko DJ Olive and Philip Samartzis, English applies
a considerable amount of DSP-distilled polish to the ensuing sounds,
whether they are textured field recordings, rasping tam-tams or post-Eno
dronescapes. Considering that Plateau jumps from tonefloat shimmer
to wintry Durutti Column guitar flourishes to a music box palindrome
and back to a bout of ominous minimalism, English's production serves
to encase the entire album with a consistent aura. Plateau's numerous
stylistic transitions and melodic interludes never veer far from a
compelling if fragile melancholy.

Erik M
Steme
PS, AUSTRALIA Between his reputation as swift shifting improviser,
concrete composer and turntable deconstructionist, Marseilles based
artist ERIKM has earned himself an enviable position in the European
music community. With Stéme, his most ambitious and fully realised
compositional work to date, he devolves and recontextualises the boundaries
between sound source and sound media. In essence, Stème originates
from a selection of ten one minute long sound pieces burned on a CD
that was deliberately damaged. These media (music on modified media
or field recording) formed the basis of multiple improvised session
including multiple stages of construction and destruction of these
acoustic matters using my different electronic real time live music
systems (3k-pad8system & MD or CD-dj and electronics). The resulting
sounds are truly distinctive - filigree like sonic details are brought
into sharp focus, tuning the ears with their paced spatial movements.
Occasional grabs of the source sound material appear and are erased
equally as quickly. A genuinely powerful statement of compositional
intent. ERIKM has instinctively followed a relatively unusual, even
risky, career path. Stemming from his interest in visual arts and
his first musical experience as a rock guitarist, he has for some
years now become steadily more and more renowned for his virtuoso
turn tabling and his use of electronic instruments and tools in an
integrated scenic set-up eRikm has followed up musical collaborations
with Voice Crack, Christian Marclay, Luc Ferrari, among others. He
is certainly one of the better-equipped artists of the new generation
to actually demonstrate a relationship between rock music (in its
widest sense) and contemporary music ; hiding behind neither cultural
camouflage nor an easy pandering to his audience.

Fairport Convention
Liege & Lief (Deluxe Edition, 2PC, Remastered)
PS, US In the decades since its original release, more than one writer
has declared Fairport Convention's Liege & Lief the definitive
British folk-rock album, a distinction it holds at least in part because
it grants equal importance to all three parts of that formula. While
Fairport had begun dipping their toes into British traditional folk
with their stellar version of "A Sailor's Life" on Unhalfbricking,
Liege & Lief found them diving headfirst into the possibilities
of England's musical past, with Ashley Hutchings digging through the
archives at the Cecil Sharp House in search of musical treasure and
the musicians (in particular vocalist Sandy Denny) eagerly embracing
the dark mysteries of this music. (Only two of the album's eight songs
were group originals, though "Crazy Man Michael" and "Come
All Ye" hardly stand out from their antique counterparts.) Liege
& Lief was also recorded after a tour bus crash claimed the lives
of original Fairport drummer Martin Lamble and Richard Thompson's
girlfriend; as the members of the group worked to shake off the tragedy
(and break in new drummer Dave Mattacks and full-time fiddler Dave
Swarbrick), they became a stronger and more adventurous unit, less
interested in the neo-Jefferson Airplane direction of their earlier
work and firmly committed to fusing time-worn folk with electric instruments
while honoring both. And while Liege & Lief was the most purely
folk-oriented Fairport Convention album to date, it also rocked hard
in a thoroughly original and uncompromising way; the "Lark in
the Morning" medley swings unrelentingly, the group's crashing
dynamics wring every last ounce of drama from "Tam Lin"
and "Matty Groves," and Thompson and Swarbrick's soloing
is dazzling throughout. Liege & Lief introduced a large new audience
to the beauty of British folk, but Fairport Convention's interpretations
spoke of the present as much as the past, and the result was timeless
music in the best sense of the term. In 2007, about a year after Liege
& Lief finally earned a gold disc in the U.K., Island Records
released a two-disc "Deluxe Edition" of the album. Disc
one features the original album remastered by Denis Blackham, and
while it doesn't sound strikingly superior to the 2002 expanded CD
version, the audio is certainly improved over the 1993 CD (and the
original vinyl LP). Disc two features ten bonus tracks: two Liege
& Lief outtakes that surfaced on the 2002 reissue, "Sir Patrick
Spens" and "Quiet Joys of Brotherhood," lead off the
disc, while another take of "Quiet Joys of Brotherhood"
also makes the cut. Most of the rest of the disc consists of BBC recordings
of Fairport live in the studio in 1969, along with a fine cover of
"The Ballad of Easy Rider" and a jokey medley of "The
Lady Is a Tramp" and "Fly Me to the Moon." Ultimately,
the added material on the bonus disc doesn't seem to add as much to
the package as the presence of "Sir Patrick Spens" and "Quiet
Joys of Brotherhood" enhanced the 2002 edition, but the original
album genuinely plays better in its original eight-song sequence,
and this deluxe version does boast a beautifully designed package.
Fairport fanatics will want to pick this up for the rare BBC material,
but the less obsessed will do just fine to hold on their copies of
the 2002 issue. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide

Fine Arts Showcase, The
Sings Rough Bunnies
PS, SWEDEN Third album from Gustaf Kjellvander's Fine Arts Showcase,
and the follow-up to his 110% brilliant. The short version: TFAS covers
11 song by Swedish cult-twee-punk-lofi duo The Rough Bunnies. The
bonus, on top of it all, twist to the album is that it is mastered
by the legendary Mr Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub!
The long version: This is an album of many
stories. Gustaf Kjellvander and his friends in The Fine Arts Showcase
have made a covers album, entirely based on songs from the Swedish,
rather unknown, jangly, lo-fi band Rough Bunnies. Why is that? Let's
make Gustaf himself explain: "I was first introduced to Anna
Vermina and her cousin Frida, the founding members of Rough Bunnies
and Inside Riot, through mutual friends. Frida gave me a CD-R just
days before they were about to move to Berlin. About six months later
I was looking for someone to rent my spare room. I bumped into Frida
by chance, who told me she had moved back from Berlin to Malmö
and needed a place to stay - so she moved in. I was already smitten
by Inside Riot at this time, and when Frida played me the songs they
had recorded in Berlin, along with the Rough Bunnies record C-sides,
it blew me away. I played it to everyone who came over to my house.
They became an obsession that carries on to this day. I knew I wanted
the Fine Arts Showcase to cover their songs. The problem was that
with a catalogue of songs as amazing as theirs it was hard to pick
just one, so I came up with the idea that we should do an entire record
instead (in the Merle Haggard sings Jimmy Rodgers tradition). And
here it is: a musical love letter to two of my favorite songwriters,
a celebration of the pop geniuses of the Vermina family. Rough Bunnies
(and their twin group Inside Riot) have inspired me more than any
other band this side of the millennium and this record is my way of
thanking them. Rough Bunnies Saved My Life" -Gustaf Kjellvander
WIRELESS BOLLINGER REVIEW: "But the hook
that makes this album fun isn't just the fact that most of the tales
told in each song are full of girly sweetness. Rather it's the Fine
Arts Showcase sound itself - and in particular, Kjellvander's sensationally
produced voice, mixing with the aforementioned feminie splendour of
Rough Bunnies' original words, that make it work so well. Instead
of coming across as simply a cute, slightly cheeky female pop record,
what we've got here is an album by a man who's lovingly singing through
diary entries, discovering her fascinations, disappointments, sexuality,
crushes - the works. This grown male's perspective on adolescent female
territory delivers a fresh-sounding positive romanticism to Sings
Rough Bunnies; and it's bloody infectious."

Fireflies
Goodnight Stars, Goodnight Moon
PS, SWEDEN Fireflies is Lisle Mitnik. He grew up in the tundras of
New England playing classical piano and one day he moved to California
to go to school and decided to start writing songs. He bought a porta-studio

of the 1980s and 90s with his unrefined knowledge of classical arrangement.
He try to craft each song into a tiny snow-globe-sized universe you

folk-rock, it's hard to believe that the band's principle songwriter,

"Laughing" where Cros, Joni, and the whole gang hit a harmony
that might be the most gorgeous moment in the history of recorded

Saturnalia
PS, US The first album from the collaboration forged in late 2003
by Mark Lanegan and fellow maverick singer-songwriter Greg Dulli.
"Saturnalia" finds the Dulli nicknamed "Satanic Everly
Brothers" going even deeper into the shadows than ever before.
It proves rootsy but baroque, handmade yet modernist, teeming with
siren melodies that don't resolve. The cumulative effect proves internal
yet epic: the netherworld symphonics of Mogwai, Sigur Ros, and Bohren
und der Club of Gore are touchstones, alongside the sprawling emotions
of Pink Floyd, the melodically catchy paranoia of the Beach Boys,
the primal confessionals of John Lennon. Still, what Dulli and Lanegan
achieve ultimately feels like the determinedly individual product
of two auteurs coming together.

Happy Matt
PS, US Ripping a page from the Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy songbook,
The How might not be The Who but you'd be forgiven for getting them
mixed up. The mod-rocking brainchild of Matt (Henry's Dress, The Coachwhips,
Sic Alps) and Stewart (Boyracer, 555 Records), The How pays cheeky
tribute to the Spirit of '66: slashing guitars, pop-art graphics,
sharp threads and even sharper tunes. Upbeat A-side "Happy Matt"
will have you frugging in no time, throwing more shapes on the dancefloor
than the Ace Face himself. On the flip, "I Was A Boy" Matt
sings oh-so-sweetly while Stew pummels his drum kit into submission;
midway through the song bursts into a complete feedback frenzy, going
all red with purple flashes. Two ace tunes to end your summer, all
wrapped up in colored vinyl and a hand-screened transparent sleeve.

Landes, Dawn
Fireproof
PS, UK ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Landes' second album shows that while
she's been characterized as a folk artist, it might be more appropriate
to say she has her own quietly varied spin on a number of styles,
using her talents as a studio engineer to create something that has
a tense, moody feeling that wouldn't surprise listeners of performers
ranging from Suzanne Vega to Alison Krauss (or, for that matter, producers
like Jon Brion and T Bone Burnett). Backed by a variety of able performers,
most notably Ray Rizzo on "drums, vocals, chaos," Landes
plays everything from guitars to Optigans to bells as well as sings,
but what's interesting is how relatively uncluttered Fireproof sounds
-- there's always a sense of space that the music fills but doesn't
dominate, matched by the gentle swath of echo she adds to her voice)."

Lodger, The
Grown-Ups
PS, US The Lodger was born in Ben Siddall's Leeds bedsit flat in 2004.
Encouraged by local label Dance To The Radio, Ben recruited friends
for bass and drum duties, tuned-up with live shows around town and
debuted in early 2005 with a track on a Dance To The Radio compilation.
The band quickly followed-up with their excellent debut single "Many
Thanks For Your Honest Opinion," the "Watching" 7"
on Double Dragon, and track for the hotly-tipped Wrath label's split
7" series. 2006 was when the band got their act together-- a
permanent line-up of Ben, Joe and Katie was established and the band
went out on the road in the UK with kindred Yorkshire spirits The
Research in February. London indie label Angular Records released
the band's ace third single "Let Her Go" shortly afterwards.
This single won the BBC 6music's Rebel Playlist and started to pick
up airplay worldwide. In the summer the band decamped to Alan Smyth's
tiny little Sheffield recording studio to record songs for their debut
album. Thirteen tracks were recorded in a week in September and the
result is "Grown-Ups." On the heels of the successes of
bands like The Kaiser Chiefs and The Arctic Monkeys, the north of
England is fairly bursting with exciting guitar pop bands, and The
Lodger are amongst the brightest hopes. Taking their cues from fellow
northerners The Smiths and The Wedding Present, The Lodger's music
is classic melodic pop, fueled by sparkling hooks and plangent lyrics.
The tunes are sharp and timeless, a thoroughly modern distillation
of great Britpop from the 60s right up to today. Grown-Ups is a perfect
introduction to the thrilling pop charms of The Lodger.

masterpiece, Lullatone presents the bedtime beat This new 10 song

Other interesting sounds to be found on the record include a bed tapped
to sound like a bass drum, snores cut up into hypnotic, breathy drum
beats, Yoshimi's human beatbox, marching in slippers, and a full cast
of toy instruments and soft sine tones intricately arranged into tiny
little dazzling melodies recorded half at home and half in a music
room at a Japanese elementary school. This is both Lullatone's strangest

a glistening sound world that finely textured with the most delicate
of raw organic sound and chaotic electronic noise. Not at all extreme
as with Menches previous work but rather a more subtle presence can
be heard here on Glass Forest. Subsonic bass drums crawling underneath
a massive sheets of glass-like sound layering infinitely into a thick

Tomlab Alphabet Series: W
PS, US NUMBERS emerges from the dusk of last year's full-length, "Now
You Are This", with a pair of rollicking jams that refuse to
let the summer set from our hearts and minds. "Is That Really
True?" takes on the heavy question of real knowledge with a fuzz
bass and drone organ before turning to an irresistible hum-along chorus.
And prevailing question remains: "What can we know?" On
the þip, the TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS classic "Crimson
and Clover" experiences a fuzz rock reawakening shot through
by pointedly triumphant guitars and dirty synth. All builds to an
end with a brilliant reenactment of the tremolo chant "Crimson
and Clover - over and over..." Summer may go, but it won't be
gone forever. "Now Now You Are This' fuzzy guitar riffs and distorted
synth melodies aren't just burning and propulsive, they're also strangely
emotive. We like strangely emotive." - XLR8R

6: Degree Fskyquake
PS, US This debut collaborative is an audio composition designed in
2001 but explored in conjunction w/ the American sculptor Banks Violette's
solo shows in the summer of 2007. The composition was captured at
a recording session during the installation process at Team gallery,
& later transfered to Gladstone as a recorded playback to the
public. The composition runs a total of 8 hrs & 35 min. The contribution
of lyrics, text & vocals by Hungarian black metal vocalist Attila
Csihar were inspired by his journeys inside imperial Tokyo, bringing
an emotional & meditative identity to the otherwise purely structural
composition.

Orwell
Le Génie Humain
PS, FRANCE A feast of an album from Jérôme Didelot aka
Orwell. Pop par excellence, "Le génie humain" is
packed with orchestral maneuvers, soaring synths, and silky, buzzy
goodness that bring Eggstone, Louis Philippe and the space bossa moments
of Testbild! to mind. With influences running from the early 60s through
the early 80s, Jerome's songs have a folk-like delicacy, but sail
on intricate arrangements featuring strings, voices, woodwinds and
keyboards galore. "Le genie humain" features collaborations
with Médéric Gontier (Tahiti 80), Alexander von Mehren,
JP Nataf, Ruth Minnikin (Heavy Blinkers), Miss Aprilia Sari (White
Shoes and the Couples Company) and Julien Lonchamp (Jack and the'),
among others. Recommended for fans of all of the above, plus Julien
Ribot, Fugu and High Llamas.

Our Sleepless Forest
S-T
PS, UK Absolutely stunning debut album of ambient electronic space
rock from a frighteningly young three-piece from South London - their
first full release, having had an early version of album track 'The
Tinderbox' included on the Type Records 'Free The Future' compilation.
Having met at school, Sam Purcell, Josh Rothberger and Karl Jawara
started experimenting with various musical instruments and sounds
using software and basic recording equipment, inspired by the music
they were into and with the aim of creating their own wall of sound.
After 14 months they emerged with something they were sufficiently
happy with to allow it to be heard by others, and ultimately that
brings us to the present day - an eight-track, 45-minute debut. Our
Sleepless Forest's music is multi-layered, complex and dense, yet
dedication and attention are rewarded as the intricate slow-build
melodies are revealed beneath the feedback, crackle and hiss. Reminiscent
at times of the likes of Loscil or even Radiohead's more out-there
moments but on the whole avoiding the predictable comparisons associated
with music of this genre, this is an album that simply has to be heard.
Press to follow; opening track 'Nomads' was played by Mary Anne Hobbs
a couple of months back, and influential Manchester-based website
Angry Ape have lined up an interview with the band. TRACKLISTING:
1. Nomads 2. The Tinderbox 3. Doors In Limbo 4. White Bird 5. Aircastles

The Prettiest Girl In School

transvestite Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho".
Working also with Orson Welles, Tony Perkins illuminated fifties America

James Dean, Perkins inherited the crown of America's leading teen

Pocahaunted
Peyote Road
PS, US "Evolving comes easier to some than others. A lot of the
21st century's chief underground ringbearers are happy mining the
same psych-ditch for the same warped ore, tape after tape and day
after day. But Eagle Rock, CA's Pocahaunted are too restless (and
easily annoyed?) to sit still like that, and so spent all of '07 throwing
ever weirder new figures and moods into their amplifier family, and
Peyote Road shows the motion of their transformation agenda. The A-side
ritual, 'Divine Flesh,' stirs hand drums and chimes into a bellydancing
blur of voice smoke and rhythm before breaking down into its base
elements and slowly reforming. The flip side, 'Heroic Doses,' documents
Pocahaunted's set opening for Thurston Moore on Halloween night in
the wasted and highly un-mystical California desert town of Visalia.
Bobb Bruno and Britt Brown backed up the ladies' blown-out but melancholy
wailing wall with electronic drums and drones, and the recording treads
a dim, no-fi path into a bleak and holy void. With tribal-psychedelia
collage jacket artwork by Owl Eyes." --Britt Brown.

pop songs but tired of staring down un empty glass they rise their
arms and dance trough there sorrows. On recent works the band has
taken a more dirty and danceable; say techno, approach, although still
maintaining the emotional and intellectual focus. It's music to be
moved by whether it'll be on the dance floor or in your sofa. It's
electronic pop music at its best. And it's got power and depth. Add

Pwrfl Power
S-T
PS, US In spite of its populist facade, popular music still largely
manages to maintain a number of strangely puritanical conventions.
One exceptionally glaring case in point is the assumed mutual exclusivity
of humor and "serious" music--the assumption that all "important"
music is solemn, earnest, and marked with abject sincerity. Particularly
in the realm of the singer/songwriter, sap and heart-sleeved sincerity
are tantamount to authenticity, and humor is viewed at best as a suspicious
novelty. Which is just one reason why PWRFL Power's Kazutaka Nomura
doesn't especially care for pop conventions. Born to an architect
and a calligrapher in Hokkaido, Japan in 1984, Kaz began studying
Classical and Jazz guitar at the age of 13--moving to Seattle at 18
to study musical composition. Shortly after his arrival, the diminutive
and charismatic Nomura co-founded (along with two other like-minded
Japanese emigres) the city-conquering, genre-defying free-improv trio
Na--who, before their residency-related demise in 2006, self-released
over 40 recordings, and garnered ink in Wire, Spin, and The Stranger.
Following the dissolution of his band, Nomura--now armed with a fancy
music degree--decided to refine his focus: constricting his work from
genre-less abandon to more traditional song structures. The result
is PWRFL Power: an unconventional marriage of melodically rich, Fahey-styled
acoustic virtuosity and conversational, knowingly naive lyrical abandon.
With the most basic of building blocks, Nomura forges a uniquely avant-informed
brand of outsider folk music--one that relies as much on impish mischief
as it does on considered craft and technique. In the year or so since
his live debut, PWRFL Power has collected considerable local and national
acclaim for his magnetically charming live performances--with high-profile
appearances at Wham City's Whartscape festival, and a mainstage slot
at Seattle's Capitol Hill Block Party (an appearance which resulted
in Kaz being cast as himself in one of those weird, animated Esurance
television commercialsÉ no, seriously--look for it in early
2008). With his self-titled full-length debut, PWRFL Power covers
considerable aesthetic strides--from contemplative sparsity to bluesy
dexterity to pure pop, and on through to a number scarcely definable
alleyways in between--whilst spinning loving yarns about self-acceptance,
internet dating, chopstick etiquette, loathsome cats, cocaine, obsessive-compulsive
text messaging, and tomato throwing. And what's most awe-inspiring
is that, in spite of this innate humor, PWRFL Power manages to transcend
the potentially cloying confines of its subject matter--seemingly
by sheer will-with thoughtfully constructed, elegantly played, and
catchy as fuck compositions. So yes, the songs are meant to be funny.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't take them seriously. PWRFL Power
has performed with Deerhoof, Gang Gang Dance, Dan Deacon, No-Neck
Blues Band, Spoon, Beach House, Sir Richard Bishop, No Age, Wooden
Wand, Sage Francis, Marnie Stern, Barr, Aa, White Magic, Jana Hunter,
Gang Wizard, and countless others.

PS, US `Basilica´ is Rameses III's eagerly anticipated follow-up
to their acclaimed releases 'Honey Rose' (Important), 'Matanuska'
(Music Fellowship) and 'Night Of The Ankou' (Type). 'Basilica' is
a double album of live recordings of new Rameses material accompanied
by re-interpretations of those same recordings by contemporaries Robert
Horton, Keith Berry, Gregg Kowalsky and Astral Social Club. Each artist
approached to contribute to the 'Basilica' disc was given free range
to experiment with the live files, to re-invent and re-interpret the
recordings as they saw fit. Minimalist sound-sculptor Keith Berry
rolled out the slow-motion waterfalls of 'Basilica' and gave the album
an early focus and provided inspiration for the glacial artwork. Gregg
Kowalsky played the 'Rose Blood' remix as part of his own performance
at the OVERLAP 02 event in San Francisco using its tuned sinewave
oscillators, cassette tapes and loops to induce, to quote the man
himself, "a psychoacoustic listening experience".

A Heart Against Your Own
PS, AUSTRALIA Birthed from of an explosive DIY underground in Brisbane,
Australia sometime during the early moments of 2004, The Rational
Academy is the epitome of shimmering avant-infused pop. With an unerring
willingness to dispense with the pleasantries of expectation and convention,
The Academy's songwriting duo Benjamin Thompson and Meredith McHugh
have forged a unique place in the heartland of melodic song writing,
etched with glistening electronic interludes and wall of sound guitars.
Their songs are replete with sweet melody, reflective lyrics and a

Section 25
Dirty Disco (Best Of)
PS, UK LTM are proud to present the first-ever Best Of compilation
from cult Factory Records group Section 25, titled Dirty Disco (1978-2008).
Formed in Blackpool (UK) by brothers Larry and Vin Cassidy in 1978,
the band were initially mentored by Joy Division, and went on to record
four albums with Factory Records between 1980 and 1986. The first
of these, Always Now, combined harsh post-punk with spacey psychedelia,
and was produced by Martin 'Zero' Hannett. Their third, From The Hip,
produced in 1984 by Bernard Sumner of New Order, explored techno and
electronica, and spawned the oft-sampled club hit Looking From A Hilltop.
After disbanding in the late 1980s, Section 25 recently regrouped,
releasing acclaimed new album Part-Primitiv in 2007, and playing a
string of powerful live shows across Europe. Now recognized as a leading
genre band, From The Hip was lauded as one of '1000 albums to hear
before you die' by The Guardian newspaper. Dirty Disco celebrates
30 years of Section 25, and features eight key album tracks as well
as the singles Knew Noise, Dirty Disco, Haunted, Beating Heart, Looking
From A Hilltop, Crazy Wisdom and Bad News Week. The booklet features
archive images and a detailed band chronology.

Solo Andata/Seaworthy/Taylor Deupree
Live In Melbourne
PS, US One night in April, 2007, the beautiful city of Melbourne,
Australia was host to a small gathering of sound-lovers and curious
passers-by descending on the venerable Northcote Social Club for a
night of subtle soundscaping by Oz-natives Solo Andata and Seaworthy
and New Yorker Taylor Deupree, who was in Australia for a tour. After
a great meal and despite the ghosts of the BBC hijacking the audio
system, the three artists set out to capture the focused listeners
with beds of abandoned melodies and warm acoustic tangles. In hopes
to capture the memories of the night, and a snapshot of live audio
and all of its imperfections, Deupree recorded the evening with the
intent of producing this CD. Live in Melbourne pairs labelmates Seaworthy
and Deupree with Solo Andata, a newcomer to 12k, who all share in
a similar sonic aesthetic. Solo Andata performed with laptop and a
host of small instruments and electronics creating dense and careful
beds of disjointed, yet beautiful music. Seaworthy transformed the
stunning, sparse drones of his Map in Hand album into a live, improvised
experience that captured all of the emotion that's created by a single
musician and his guitar. Deupree rounded off the night with his characteristically
sparse bed of tones and digital detritus. Live in Melbourne is strictly
limited to 500 copies.

Apparatus
PS, US 'Apparatus,' SubtractiveLAD's fourth album, finds Stephen Hummel
elaborating upon previous granular motifs. Those familiar with his
progression will notice that Hummel's sound has matured and become
grounded in an honest and open place. As such musical growth would
imply, Apparatus is the album in which Hummel appears to be most comfortable
with his ideas and usage of sound. It is this comfort, which allows
Apparatus to envelop the listener in a profoundly personal way. Lofty
classic ambient refrains, shoegaze splendor and muted broken beat
trickery are all stylistic fair game. Comparisons can be made to a
wide rage of artists such as Ben Frost, Eno, Namlook, and even label
mate Bitcrush. As each SubtractieLAD album seems to top the previous,
the anticipation is building for what is to come from this bright
talent in electronic music.

Sun City Girls
You're Never Alone with a Cigarette (Singles Volume 1)
PS, US Recorded in July of 1988 during the sessions that produced
Sun City Girls' most popular recording, these nine tracks represent
the other half of songs which were originally prepared as a 2LP demo
version of Torch of the Mystics for Placebo Records in 1989. The sequencing
of all 20 tracks at the time was entirely different with the predominately
instrumental tracks in this collection mixed in and around the mostly
vocal tracks of what became Torch. Placebo went out of business shortly
after this proposed 2LP idea was presented to them but Majora Records
quickly stepped in to begin releasing most of the material. Included
here are five tracks from early Majora singles: "100 Pounds of
Black Olives" and "The Fine-Tuned Machines of Lemuria"
(the complete unreleased 12-minute version) from the single "You're
Never Alone with a Cigarette" and all three tracks from Record
#1 of the double 7" Three Fake Female Orgasms -- "Plaster
Cupids Falling from the Ceiling," "The Beauty of Benghazi,"
and "Souvenirs from Jangare." The short piece "Harmful
Little Armful" is from the triple 7" box set Bruce Lee,
Heroin, and the Punk Scene (from a Bay Area label Massacre at Central
High) and rounding out the set are three unreleased studio tracks
recorded the same day as much of the Torch LP: never before heard
versions of "Amazon One," "Sev Acher," and "Wild

Tammar
S/T
PS, US Working out the kernels of their corn-fried haze, TAMMAR is
an exercise in balancing minimalist riffs with maximalist peaks &
valleys. While the usual rise-fall theory of rock is tired, with Tammar
there's a focus on the jam rather then cold hard numbers. On stage
they are always a bit different - moments are stretched and condensed
at will, and on record its no different. Minimal keyboards and drums
bring to mind early Suicide while tripping guitars and theatrical
accented vocals bring to mind the more paisley moments of Felt and
U2, respectively. This four-piece from just north of Louisville, KY
recorded these songs primarily live off the cement floor of the basement
of Grotto Home Studios by the deft hands of Daniel Burton. Bending
the materials of the world until the band itself is a conduit for
feelings hot and wet and primal as sex. But that's not all. Tammar
tastes the psychedelic aether, visiting the realms above as well as
below, transmitting those good vibrations. Turn down the lights, turn
up your stereo and rock these five hits of ecstasy.

Testbild!
Une Teinte Intense
PS, SWEDEN "Une teinte intense" is a tribute to one of Testbild!'s
greatest heroes: Isabelle Eberhardt, an explorer and writer who traveled
the Sahara disguised as a man before dying in a flash flood in 1904
at the age of 27. Excerpts from her travel diaries float in a dreamy
sound environment of Bedouin drums, echoing muezzin calls, and warm
winds blowing in the distance, while pop melodies flow like spring
water in the irrigation canals. Light as a mirage, this album bridges
pop, jazz and exotica in the sun-bleached deserts of North Africa.
Testbild! welcome the following influences into their Moorish tent:
Louis Philippe, Gil Evans, Ludus, Edward Gorey, Eric Satie, the Hepburns,
Jacques Cousteau, and Andrei Tarkovskij. "Excellent production
qualities showcase a variety of modern, trans-continental pop, thanks
to old-fashioned songwriting, and decorated with sampled bits and
field recordings. What results sounds like the United Nations of Antena:
a little dubby indie tropicalia here, a little Arabian ambient pop
there, a little mod-pop Free Design/indielounge à la Sea and
Cake there; but Testbild! maintain a skilled balance of sweet and
mature throughout." - Other Music, NYC "Graceful, daring,

Built For Nothing
PS, US One-sided LP. "Suburban Michigan is a breeding ground
where every weirdo has a label, a band, and a handful of secret/under
the radar collaborative projects. Here Graveyard's Ben Hall and Lambsbread's
Zac Davis create a monolithic one-sider influenced by too many private
press jazz records and abstract instrumentalism. Davis turns in his
effect pedals for nothing; pure clean tones plucked up and down scales
and bridges so uniquely that it is easy to confuse the guitar for
a sax. Ben Hall drums like a man with four arms; constant rattling
trap-tapping and assorted pots and pans clattering, flowing completely
smoothly. A perfect union of sound. In an edition of 300 copies in
screened chipboard sleeves by Anthony Decanini."

Ulaan Khol
I
PS, US Steven R. Smith has had a hand in creating some of the most
compelling & singular instrumental psychedelic music of the past
ten years. As Ulaan Khol, Smith digs in deep with a palette of drums/guitar/organ
to craft a monolithic & expansive free form, feedback-heavy atmospheric
din that bonds the disparate realms of Fushitsusha & High Rise
with Popul Vuh & Flying Saucer Attack. Smith has planned a maximalist
three-part suite, 'Ceremony.' In the first installment of the trilogy,
I, the tone is overwhelming bleak as the pieces (all untitled) caterwaul,
moan & crumble.

Valet
Naked Acid
PS, US 2nd solo release from Portland artist Valet, aka HONEY OWENS.
She states: "These songs were Inspired by the Pacific Northwest
landscape, semi-conscious dream states & the idea of one's dna
code being accessed as eternal memory. I started off w/ the idea to
make a 'songs' record but it really didn't turn out that way. Instead
the record became it's own story. Track one is a static beach journey
duet w/ ADRIAN ORANGE & tracks 3, 4 & 5 are collaborations
w/ MARK EVAN BURDEN (Silentist) on drums." PITCHFORK: "Portland
Renaissance woman Honey Owens returns for her second album as Valet,
this time fusing the project's distinct styles-- patient drones with
manipulated vocals, lovesick ballads, spiky tunes infused with electronic
noise-- into a unified whole that works terrifically as an album."

New Folk Routes
PS, UK When visionary UK underground scene-maker and entrepreneur
Joe Boyd started making records under his own Witchseason banner in
1967, he could have had little idea of the staggering amount of uber-influential
artists he would go on to produce over the next few years. Step up
Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, The Incredible String Band, Sandy
Denny, Vashti Bunyan, Nico and Dr Strangely Strange to name but a
few. He licensed most of these records out to the super-cool Island
label where they joined the likes of Traffic, John Martyn and The
Amazing Blondel and unwittingly formed the backbone of the now hugely
revered and collectable British folk-rock movement of the late '60s
and '70s. First issued in the '90s and promptly deleted, this set
features Tracks from such great albums as Fairport Convention's Liege
& Lief and What We Did On Our Holidays, Nick Drake's Pink Moon,

& Linda Thompson's I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight, Traffic's

PS, US "Even though Warmth main man Steev Thompson still appears
to be incommunicado, totally epic recordings continue to surface.
Before Roxanne Jean Polise was officially over and Steev still lived
in Chicago, he joined up with another then-Chicago resident Branden
Diven of Quilts/American Grizzly Records. The jams that were created
filled a couple of CD-Rs and the Warmth side of the split with Quintana
Roo on Not Not Fun. This LP consists of a remixed and edited version
of the original CD-R running at just under 45 minutes. Forgotten smog
floats through a Northside basement. Sounds emanate but their source
is totally unrecognizable. Quiet growing tonal blobs erupt into washes
of aural color. A complete union of samplers, synths, vocals, guitar,
organs, percussion, and electronics merge to create the sounds contained
within; a loss of individual existence. Completely serene. In an edition
of 300 LPs on creamy yellow marbled vinyl with hand-stamped labels
in pro-printed and screened fold over sleeves with art by Roy Tatum

Weird Weeds
I Miss This
PS, US The Weird Weeds are a trio from Austin, TX that draws upon
wildly divergent musical backgrounds and a common interest in non-traditional
forms to create pop music that is experimental yet oddly palatable
and well conceived. Since 2003 they have released two full-length
albums and one EP and have extensively toured the U.S. and Canada.
Their members have collaborated with a huge array of musicians including
Jandek, Tom Carter, Arnold Dreyblatt, The Cherry Blossoms, Xiu Xiu,
and many more. For their third album (and first for Austin's Autobus
Records) I Miss This the band spent seven months recording at home
and in the studio, a far more labor-intensive process than any previous
record they've made. The album further develops their already highly
refined approach, expanding their dynamic range and musical scope
beyond 2005's acclaimed Weird Feelings . The songs go from the most
raucous distorted guitar romps to the most delicate acoustic ballads,
still continually indulging their penchant for complex harmonies,
unconventional song structures, and strange noises. I Miss This is
another meticulously crafted and beautifully executed album from a
unique and talented band. "Beautifully unnerving" - Austin
Chronicle. "Light years ahead of most bands" - Dusted Magazine.
"Surprising and swiftly captivating" - All Music Guide.

Auburn Lull
Begin Civil Twilight (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, US One of the most hauntingly beautiful, ethereal pop records
ever created. Auburn Lull are a dream pop/space rock band from the
East Lansing, Michigan area and are in fact the Michigan space rock
scene's core. Begin Civil Twilight is Auburn Lull's third and best
album and the first completely self-produced album by "The Lull".
Imagine The Moody Blues produced by Eno, if Slowdive originally wrote
and recorded Surrealistic Pillow, or perhaps Seefeel on a good sedative/hypnotic.
Fellow dream popper Ulrich Schnauss mixed one track and did treatments
on two others. Auburn Lull is guitarists Sean Heenan, Jason Kolb,
Eli Wekenman, and drummer Jason Wiesinger. The quartet came together
out of a shared affection for bands like Seefeel, Flying Saucer Attack,
Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark, and the 4AD and Creation Records
aesthetic. In 1997, the band released the Dual Group EP, a split release
with Mahogany, which John Peel played on his BBC radio program. Their
debut full-length debut Alone I Admire was initially released on local
independent record label Burnt Hair in 1999, sold out, and was then
reissued by Darla Records in 2002. Their second record Cast From The
Platform (Darla) was released in 2004. Regions Less Parallel: Early
Works And Rarities 1996-2004, which compiles band's highly collectible
singles, EPs and stray compilation tracks plus two previously unreleased

Axelrod, David
Seriously Deep (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, UK In the Sixties and Seventies, David Axelrod was one of America's
most respected producers, arrangers and composers. Credited in some
quarters with inventing a whole new genre of music usually attributed
to Miles Davis - that of jazz-fusion, his reputation was cemented
by his remarkable productions with Cannonball Adderley, David McCallum
and Lou Rawls and by the religious albums Mass in F Minor and Release
Of An Oath he created with the Electric Prunes. He was talked up by
Frank Zappa and Sly Stone; George Harrison wanted him to record for
Apple and Allen Ginsberg wanted him to set Howl! to music! His genius
began to be re-discovered in the mid-nineties through the sampling
by such hip-hop and dance record producers as DJ Shadow. Dr. Dre used
a David McCallum cut ('The Edge') for "The Next Episode"
from 1999's 2001. Axelrod¹s prodigious solo albums Songs of Innocence
and Songs Of Experience were quickly re-issued. Then in 2000 he released
a new album and appeared at the Royal Festival Hall, where he conducted
a one-off performance of his solo work. He was joined on stage by
Richard Ashcroft who sang Holy Are You, originally recorded by The
Electric Prunes. Originally released in 1975, and inexplicably out
of print for three subsequent decades, Seriously Deep has become a
kind of Holy Grail for samplers. Axelrod the composer is unmistakably
present and what has also made the record a particularly sought-after
item is the remarkable interplay between Joe Sample's exuberant keyboards
and the hypnotically intense drumming of Leon 'Ndugu' Chancler. This
is the kind of thing that gets samplers - and indeed anyone with a
finely tuned sense of rhythm - very excited indeed.

S-T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, UK Whilst on a World Tour playing keyboards for Echo and the Bunnymen
Paul Fleming began to write what would come to be his debut album.
With a laptop and any instruments that were to hand he would capture,
in music, what inspired him in each city around the world; from Texas
to Barcelona to Berlin to Copenhagen to Reykjavik and back to the
UK in Brighton. In hotel rooms, tour buses, planes, at the end of
radio sessions and sound-checks, every opportunity was taken and tracks
gradually started to form into an album. A sound was born influenced
by works from artists such as Eno, Doves, NEU!, Sigur Ros and DJ Shadow.
Written, produced and performed by Paul, the album also features contributions
from Simon Finley on drums, Will Sergeant on guitar and Pete Wilkinson
on Bass. Paul signed to Blow Up Records in April 2007, and the same
Summer took his recordings into Studio B, The Premises in Hackney
for additional production and mixing with Nick Terry (Klaxons, Simian
Mobile Disco). After some heavy-duty valve and analogue processing,
the beats got bigger, the sound-scape was widened and the album was
complete!

Celebrating Life (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 1ST)
PS, GERMANY Celebrating Life is the first full-length release from
Icelandic artist Björn Kristiansson and reflects a life in music
full of experiences. The oldest of these eight tracks are up to six
years old, and Morr label-head Thomas Morr has been their eager and
attentive listener. How does a punch in the belly sound? Kristiansson
has written a song about it called "Spoonstabber," where
you'll hear an elegiac Tetris, encapsulated by delaying beats, tumbling
samples, guitars, trumpets and a melody that goes on for an eternity.
Borko - who also works as a musician for film and theater as well
as a music teacher at a primary school in Reykjavik - expresses melancholy
and nostalgia through rhythm-machines. His songs can reach dramatic
heights with climbing melodies, as well as play up the stoicism of
repetition and modulation. His work at the laptop and mixing desk
live on stage have helped fuel his inspiration as well as childhood
prog rock LPs, Jim O'Rourke's ear and electronica's warmth.

Child Readers
Music Heard Far Off (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 22ND)
PS, US The Child Readers tread the implied ground that lies somewhere
between music heard far off & music finally pulled together. They
present the seemingly disparate dualities of metaphysical improvisation
& meticulous composition in their otherworldly collaboration,
an adventurous take on songwriting unheard since the heyday of Cherry
Red & 4AD (imagine Eyeless in Gaza or Durutti Column nicking from
the Richard Youngs songbook). Presenting music bathed in the beauty
of everyday things, The Child Readers offer sonic prayers to country,
wastes of sea, songs, drawings, particular times of day & different
furs.

Clint
Los Tipos Duros Tambien Bailan (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, SPAIN Tough guys do dance! Three years ago, Clint were four blokes
trying to express their particular vision through music without the
impending need of using words. Their mantra was "a closed mouth
gathers no flies" and "loose lips sink ships". After
one year of devoted silence playing Battleship, their lengthy exploration
of silence yielded Alégrame el Día (siesta 206 - 2005)
, a vivid record that lifted the band to "New Talent" status
and honors at Fnac and to the prestigious "best of the year"
lists. They even captivated the international critical community like
no other self-taught instrumental band ever did. Clint offered no
opposition to tour the bullskin shape (=Spain) until they had to embrace
a new assignment, a new challenge. A tough guy, initials E.G., proposed
them to create the soundtrack for a silent film, any silent film actually.
Clint revised their files thoroughly and interrogated another tough
guy, L.J.M. They crystallized everything in a new vehicle to communicate
their "duende", the imaginary soundtrack for Berlin: Die
Symphonie der Großstadt (1929) (Walter Ruttmann)/aka Berlin,
Symphony of a Big City. Clint proved themselves as masters of luxuriant
melancholy and found the blurred images of the last century as a true
source of inspiration and a revelation to their lives.

Crow Tongue
Ghost Eye Seeker (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 25TH)
PS, US Crow Tongue's first full length finds them summoning distant
howls from the fog of night. Fingerpicked strings & Eastern instruments
recall CT's musical heritage (the acid-folk of Stone Breath), but
here they are layered with primitive homemade instruments, circuit-bent
electronics & mantric drones. "Ghost Eye Gaze" opens
the album with a 5-part drone-raga, improvised to back a shamanic
chant, pushing from free-folk to free-noise & back again. "Seeker"
follows in 2 parts with bass dulcimer & tablas leading into an
electric swarmandal excursion. The album closes with "Candle,
Corpse, and Bell" where Crow Tongue shows their dub influence
with guimbri & tabla-machine slowly spinning through the echochamber.

Cud
Showbiz (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, UK Having departed the independent world and signed with A&M
in 1991, CUD proceeded to pursue the commercial success their previous
releases had hinted at with 1992's Asquarius. Following this, their
first hit album, proved to be the band s longest break between releases
(largely the result of some inter-label disharmony), but they eventually
emerged in 1994 with Showbiz. Recorded primarily in Scotland (at a
studio owned by Fish of Marillion fame, no less), this record saw
their sound mature and showcased a broader range of songwriting styles
than previous efforts. It was well received on its release in April
1994, garnering favorable reviews, and spawned two UK hit singles
in Neurotica and One Giant Love. Sadly, though, the album proved to
be the band's last officially released effort as the pressures of
life on a major and all that it entails took their toll on the band.
This remastered version also includes a number of B-Sides from the
album's single releases, as well as some unreleased out-takes and
demo versions, including material intended for their next album, which
hasn't seen the light of day before now. This release (along with
two more Cherry Red CUD Reissues) comes hot on the tails of 2006's
Rich and Strange The Anthology compilation and 2007's well received
re-issues of two more of the band's albums, all of which reminded
the world just how great this band were. A UK tour is also scheduled
for March to promote this and it's accompanying releases. TRACKS:

Leggy Mambo (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, UK Following the release of their debut When In Rome, Kill Me
and 1990 s Elvis Belt compilation (CDMRED355), Leeds indie heroes
CUD set to work on their next album for Imaginary Records. Recorded
during the Summer of 1990, Leggy Mambo proved to be a step in all
the right directions, cementing the sound developed over their previous
releases and capitalizing on the band s pop sensibilities to provide
their most immediately accessible collection of songs to date. Produced
by XTCs Dave Gregory and released in October 1990, the album spawned
the well-received singles Robinson Crusoe and Magic (both of which
might have achieved greater success had they been released on a larger
label) and generated a huge amount of industry interest, eventually
leading to their signing with A & M the following year. This Cherry
Red Gold top Copy version of the album features the newly remastered
original disc, as well as a collection of demos and alternate versions,
all of which have been hand picked by the band themselves. This release
(along with two more Cherry Red CUD Reissues) comes hot on the tails
of 2006 s Rich and Strange The Anthology compilation and 2007's well
received reissues of two more of the band's albums, all of which reminded
the world just how great this band were and generated a well deserved
resurgence in interest. A UK tour is scheduled for March to promote

Cud
Elvis Belt (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, UK Formed in Leeds in 1986, CUD went on to forge one of the more
interesting and indefinable sounds of the late 80s / early 90s indie
scene. Fusing a catchy pop sensibility with danceable grooves and
intelligent and often humorous lyrics, they soon became firm independent
favorites and began releasing records on Leeds based Reception Records
in 1987, very quickly catching the ear of John Peel and becoming a
regular fixture of his broadcasts. Three quality singles into their
career, the band secured a deal with Imaginary Records, where they
continued a fine run of singles and eventually released their debut
album. Capitalizing on the band's underground success, in June 1990
Imaginary followed this with this fantastic compilation of their early
releases, topping several independent charts in the process and further
establishing an already strong reputation. Some eighteen years later,
Elvis Belt is updated and reissued here by Cherry Red, together with
a wealth of rarities and unreleased tracks from those formative years
and beyond. This release features the original album in its entirety,
carefully remastered and now sitting comfortably alongside Elvis Handbag,
an additional disc conceived by the band as a sister album to the
original release and containing a number of further B-Sides, Peel
Session recordings and cover versions (including the band's legendary
take on Bohemian Rhapsody, previously only available on the ultra-rare
Alvin Lives in Leeds compilation). This release (along with two more
Cherry Red CUD Reissues) comes hot on the tails of 2006's Rich and
Strange The Anthology compilation and 2007s well received re-issues
of two more of the band's albums, all of which reminded the world

DeVotchKa
Mad and Faithful Telling (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, US The times have finally caught up with acclaimed Denver quartet
DeVotchKa. Not long ago when the band unloaded their instruments -
a violin, a tuba and an accordion, among others - into a rock club,
they were told they must be in the wrong place. They created music
that was Grammy nominated (DeVotchKa created the soundtrack for the
indie smash Oscar winning film Little Miss Sunshine) without the benefit
of a huge promotion team or runaway budget, instead relying only on
their own efforts by self-releasing their records. And they crafted
gems of songs by mixing a beautiful blend of Eastern European bohemia,
American prairie rock and distinctive indie and called it pop, rather
than world, music. Now, the band is au courant, poised to shine on
with their Anti- Records debut A Mad and Faithful Telling. From the
cinematic richness of "Transliterator" to the modern pop
experiment of "The Clockwise Witness," to the soaring and
wrenching "Undone," DeVotchKa have produced a career-defining
record and the world is listening. THE ONION: "DeVotchkA gets
pegged with all kinds of farfetched descriptions - but despite all
their trappings, which include admittedly exotic elements, Nick Urata
and company concoct impeccable pop songs, the kind that fuse memory
and memorability with swaying darkness and glittering soul."

Staying In (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, NORWAY Staying In, DiskJokke's debut release, is a tripped out
mastodon of an album. This is the sound of Norwegian disco taken to
its farthest, futuristic limits. It's epic, groovy, cinematic, poppy
& most of all melodic. But at the same time, it is melancholic,
and as the title suggests, staying inside the dark winter & autumn
nights to make music certainly reflects the mood of the album. For
years DiskJokke has been closely connected to Norway's premiere club
night, Sunkissed, where he is resident DJ with G-HA, Olanskii &
VinnyVillbass. "Bright, playful, spacey, and colorful, music

Fanu + Bill Laswell
Lodge (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, US Artists: FANU is Finland's and perhaps the world's finest breakbeat
splicer and re-imaging doctor. His programming, layering, and arrangements
of classic breakbeats are truly some of the most innovative and by
far the most realistic sounding - akin to a jazz drummer with no boundaries
and seventeen available drum kits at once. BILL LASWELL is the Grammy
award-winning producer of Herbie Hancock, bassist and arranger extraordinaire.
Fresh off the amazing Method of Defiance record "Inamorata",
he's completed this follow up recording, which also features Parliament
Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell and Norwegian trumpeter Nils
Petter Molvaer prominently. Album: If you took the electric period
of Miles Davis, with less repetition, more funk, and mad scientist
drummer, you might end up halfway to LODGE. Half time vamps swing
with steady funk bass from Laswell and one of Bernie Worrell's most
inspired keyboard performances since PFunk, LODGE turns it out with
much more emphasis on the groove. Bits of drum n bass and floating
trumpet maneuver over the core modular pieces; a much less harsh sound
than the Method of Defiance project, more demonstrative of the soul
of Laswell's funktronics. Label: Ohm Resistance is Brooklyn's premier
experimental electronic label. Loaded with power, from Scorn, to Bill
Laswell and his project Method of Defiance, to End.user and Submerged,
the label has transformed from drum n bass 12" powerhouse to
cutting edge electronic project pioneer.

For Against
Shade Side Sunny Side (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, US Signposts: Factory Records, Joy Division, Section 25, Interpol,
My Bloody Valentine. WORDS ON MUSIC is proud to release "Shade
Side Sunny Side," FOR AGAINST's seventh full-length record and
first studio album since 2002. As the Lincoln, Nebraska trio approaches
their 25th anniversary on the independent music scene, FOR AGAINST
has reemerged with an exclamation point: "Shade Side Sunny Side"
is a landmark record for the band, boasting FOR AGAINST's darkest
(and loudest) material to date. The post-punk roots of FOR AGAINST's
early years are firmly in place, but presented throughout 9 new songs
with a more expansive and atmospheric sonic palette. "Shade Side
Sunny Side" also marks the notable return of original FOR AGAINST
guitarist Harry Dingman III, who formed the band with vocalist and
bassist Jeffrey Runnings back in 1984. Dingman left FOR AGAINST after
1988's seminal dream pop record, "December." For the new
album, the prolific Runnings-Dingman songwriting team picks up right
where they left off 20 years ago, when they wrote the classic post-punk
material that comprised "Echelons," "December,"
and "In The Marshes" all within a 2- year span. "Glamour,"
the album's opening track, is a fierce proposition that tours the
early FACTORY RECORDS sound before segueing into a cold post-punk
stomp coated by Runnings' icy vocals. Songs like "Underestimate"
and the album closer "Irresistible" sparkle with a pop grandeur
hinted at by 2002's "Coalesced" album, but infused with
unmistakable guitarwork revealing the fingerprints of Dingman's return:
searing feedback, atmospheric chord-play, and inspired hooks are coaxed
together to form a musical backbone that is both furious and gorgeous.
"Aftertaste" is a blistering song that melds the musical
sensibilities of JOY DIVISION's early WARSAW years with production
by MARC OSTERMEIER (SHOULD) hinting at WIRE's "154." "Shade
Side Sunny Side" also includes a cover version of "Friendly
Fires," written by Factory Records' SECTION 25, from their 1981
debut "Always Now." "Shade Side Sunny Side" also
includes some of the most heartrending accounts by Runnings to date.
The album reveals itself as a confessional and therapeutic musical
diary, with several songs recounting the tragic life and loss of a
close family member, from the acerbic "Glamour," to the
haunting ballad "Why Are You So Angry?," and culminating
in "Game Over," where Runnings is at his most defenseless,
singing nakedly on piano through the first verse and chorus. FOR AGAINST's
musicianship on "Shade Side Sunny Side" is in top form,
reflecting a maturity befitting their quarter century of songwriting
and performances and a freshness that has drawn together an interesting
union of dream pop enthusiasts in the USA and a strong dark wave following
in Europe.

Opening track 'Summon' throws down the gauntlet in typically thunderous
fashion, transporting the listener to the dirty side of early 90's
Seattle before it's apocalyptic wall of noise eventually subsides
and the clear, unashamedly English vocals of frontman Tom Sheals-Barrett
reveal that this is a band as in thrall to Radiohead as they are to
Soundgarden. Recent single 'History' follows and highlights again
what a versatile outfit Grand Volume are; as tenacious, disciplined
and economical as Fugazi or Minor Threat, yet as musically adventurous
and intelligent as Devo or Television. 'Fire Come Soon' is another
fine distillation of Grand Volume's prog meets punk philosophy - it's
bombastic fire and brimstone lyrics are consumed in a maelstrom of
sub-pop inspired thrash, which occasionally gives way to a gentler,
fx-laden, bassdriven groove that wouldn't sound out of place on 'OK
Computer'. The album closes with the beautiful 'Departure Lounge',
a deeply introspective track that wouldn't sound out of place on any
of the 4AD label's austere 80's gothic releases. The whole mood of
the song emphasizes again that Grand Volume are a band well-versed
in the whole canon of alternative rock, stretching their sound far
further than the majority of their contemporaries. "An awesome
racket. The missing link between classic stadium bombast and post-hardcore
death noise" Dan Martin, NME. Championed by Bruce Dickinson(BBC
6) Music and Huw Stephens (Radio 1).

Is Hideki Kaji -the official emperor of Shibuya-ku pop- now in full
cowboy gear or is he now a charming and romantic character alla italiana?
Has Jez Butler sculpted another highly stylized retro futuristic fantasy?
Will this Italian trip from the neo-aco heroe please the many legions
of his fans? Did he use a time machine to travel to the good old days
of lost pop? Well, Hideki Spaghetti is an italian adventure created
by Hideki Kaji and Jez Butler. And all the responses can be found

Hingley, Tom And The Lovers
Highlights (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, UK Tom Hingley is also lead singer in The Inspiral Carpets. March
2008 sees Tom Hingley and the Lovers release their second album 'Highlights'.
3 years in the making it is a work of art. Poetic, melodic and well
worth the wait. Highlights is the first release from the band since
their critically acclaimed 2004 debut 'Abba Are the Enemy'. Where
'Abba' was a brash 200 mph Punk/Garage dash through topical subjects
such as reality television, the Pop parade and War Mongering, 'Highlights'
sees the band developing along a much more melodic soulful train of
thought. Songs touch on such universal themes as love (Highlights),
Religion ('All My Time'), Lions ('Venomous) Credit Crunch ('Kick out
The Clocks') and the pretentious Manchester district of Chorlton Cum
Hardy, which Tom can't afford to buy a house in and is not all at
all bitter about ('EverGreen')

Toss in counter-melodic bass, sometimes quirky breaks, & extended
instrumental sequences that ascend to the heavens or cascade softly,

Judys, The
Land Of Plenty [re-issue] (DELAYED, PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 2008)
PS, US First ever official release for The Judys last album, recorded
but never released! In 1990, The Judy's set out to record a new album
with a new Judy's sound. Featuring the lineup that had been established
over a number of years the band, including Barbara Donaho (keyboards/guitars),
Lee Malone (bass), and Darwin Keys (drums), set out to explore new
horizons musically and thematically. Land of Plenty injected multi-layered
keyboards and guitars, stacked vocals, a gospel choir, and even a
bit of banjo into the band's palatte and sought to realize Bean's
vision of a new Americana musical landscape. Broad in its scope and
daring in its expansion of the band's definition of itself, Land of
Plenty was shelved when the group disbanded before the CD's release.
While a handful of copies have been given out, this is first time
this long sought-after project has been available to the general public.

Judys, The
Moo [re-issue] (DELAYED, PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 2008)
PS, US The original 'Moo' album finally re-issued on CD for the first
time! CD sports seven bonus tracks, mainman David Bean's "Modomusic"
EP. Released almost four years to the day after Washarama and following
an eighteen month hiatus, The Judy's Moo album has a slightly more
progressive sound: richer production values, fuller arrangements and
thicker harmonies. As the band returned to the stage in 1985, this
was the album that showed the band's maturity and development as songwriters
and musicians. The twelve songs on Moo, laced with solid-state irony,
well-placed cynicism and standard issue Judys' wit, show the band
at the peak of their creativity and acted as a springboard for their
live extravaganzas. The album was released with The Moo Tour - a month
of live performances across the state which included giant cereal
boxes, moving conveyer belts of milk cartons, and a dancing cow while
the band donned milkman uniforms. Critically acclaimed and fan-revered,
The Moo Album continues to be a milestone in Texas pop music.

Washarama [re-issue] (DELAYED, PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 2008)
PS, US The original 'Washarama' album finally re-issued on CD for
the first time! With six bonus tracks from "The Wonderful World
of Applainces" EP. The Judy's first full-length and most popular
recording, Washarama was a watershed event in the Texas new wave scene
and solidified the band's status as the state's most original and
daring musical provocateurs. The album perfectly captures the band's
quirky sensibility and their signature minimalist sound. The twelve-song,
35-minute album includes some of The Judy's most popular songs including
"Her Wave", "Man on a Window Ledge", and the legendary
"Guyana Punch". This was the first time that the band had
spent an extensive (for them) amount of time on a recording project
including a total remix of the album after its initial completion.
The album was officially released in 1981 at a record release party
at Houston's Agora Ballroom and literally became a top seller overnight.
Sales were later bolstered by Wasted Talent securing distribution
from a major regional distributor. Despite it's age, Washarama still
holds its own as the classic Texas new wave album.

PS, UK Having started out as a skiffle act from Ealing and called
The Playboys they then became an R&B combo, The Tomcats. John
(Speedy) Keen, (Thunderclap Newman) was in them for a while and then
In 1966, The Tomcats went to Spain with a new line-up (one which become
the future July one). As Los Tomcats, they got in the charts with
four EPs, one of which was all in Spanish! They then returned to the
UK in 1968, still basing themselves in Ealing and changed their name
to July. As July, they recorded what later became one of the most
sought-after British psychedelic sixties albums of all time. One that
was originally released in the UK on Major Minor (MMLP/SMLP 29) in
1968 and also issued in USA/Canada on Epic (BN- 26416) and even released

Juniper Tar
To The Trees (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, US Juniper Tar's debut release is the result of the band packing
up and heading to Prentice in Northern Wisconsin in April 2007 to
record the batch of songs they had been working on since the group's
inception in 2005. The idea was to stay out of the recording studio
environment and invite the room where the song is recorded to be the
fifth band member. This allowed for the songs to be played live in
one room where separation and instrument tracking would not become
a separate process. The songs on To the Trees come together in a collage
with a unifying theme of separation and solitude, sometimes longing
for it while other times cursing it. Beginning this spring and summer,
Juniper Tar will be supporting To the Trees with live shows throughout
the Midwest and east coast. A limited edition 7" vinyl single
will also be released this spring on the Bus Stop Label for the song
"The Mouths of Fields" with a B-side take on Townes Van
Zandt's "Rex's Blues" R.I.Y.L.: Band of Horses, Golden Smog,
Ryan Adams, Avett Brothers, Come, My Morning Jacket, Matt Pond PA.

Les Troubadours Du Roi Baudouin
Missa Luba (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 25th)
PS, UK Hailed by Stanley Kubrick as Absolutely, one of the great films,
Lindsay Anderson s stylish, surrealistic, uncompromising and confrontational
film IF... encapsulated the revolutionary atmosphere of the sixties;
and four decades on has lost none of it's power to astonish and provoke.
Malcolm McDowell (of whom IF... made a star), suggested the bewitching,
other-worldly music of Sanctus from the Missa Luba, a version of the
Latin Mass based on traditional Congolese songs, which establishes
the film s very particular atmosphere. IF... captured the public's
imagination beyond anyone's expectation and the memorable Sanctus
subsequently became a chart hit (I couldn¹t believe it recalled
McDowell). Les Troubadours du Roi Baudouin, a choir with percussion
section consisting of about 45 boys from 9 to 14 years old, and 15
teachers were formed by Father Haazen. The Missa Luba is pure Congolese.
It is completely void of any modern, western musical influences. None
of it is written. Certain rhythms, harmonies and embellishments are
spontaneous improvisations. This edition, comprising the mass and
native songs of the Congo, is the first complete restoration of the
original album first released in 1963.

Lucy Bland
Down To Sea Level (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, US A little bit familiar and a lot unexpected, Lucy Bland's Down
to Sea Level fuses the dynamic range of indie rock, the experimentation
of electronica, and the story telling of folk into this genre-defining
work. Expanding on the dreamy lushness of their "... really really
really cool debut EP" (John Richards, KEXP), Down to Sea Level
is the lo-fi indie anthem of your everyday. Introspective tracks like
"Crashing Waves" are dominated by intricate arrangements,
blip hop adventurousness, and bold instrumentation. The vocal-driven
style is complimented by drops of melodic cello, delicate electronic
ornamentation, and understated guitar chords, lending the song an
aquatic, nostalgic air. Along with the imagery of open seas, Venetian
streets, and collecting driftwood, Lucy Bland proves their adaptability
with the sixth track of the album. Echoing the sound of Mirah and
Blonde Redhead, "Valor" combines open, naked vocals and
funky, disco bass beats into a uintessentially dark and moving opus.
The song is epic without overstepping dramatic boundaries. Drawing
from influences as varied as Cat Power and Hot Chip, Down to Sea Level
is a versatile record that lacks only a distribution company. One
listen and it won't be your last. Your eardrums will thank you. REVIEWS
OF LUCY BLAND'S FIRST RECITAL: "It was so good I almost feel
like speaking would be a disgrace." - Sean Nelson (Harvey Danger),
KEXP Radio "... Music is rarely this pleasurable, meaningful,
and soothing on tracks like 'Centuries' and the Suzanne Vega-ish 'Streaker'.
A very charming debut EP." - www.threeimaginarygirls.com "Down
tempo and moving, Lucy Bland is anything but bland. With the vocals
of lead singer Cat Biell surrounded by some cello, guitar, and keyboard,
the music just seems to flow so easily. It is perfect for that quiet
evening or lazy afternoon." -South of Mainstream

Millimetrik
Northwest Passage's New Era (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 2ND)
PS, UK Pascal Asselin is a founder member of French Canadian dreampop
outfit Below the Sea and half of Anglo-Canadian duo Glider. Pascal
began recording under the name Millimetrik in 2003, uniting his love
of atmospheric ambient (Biosphere, Murcof) with hip-hop rhythms and
breaks. With his background as a drummer, Millimetrik's earlier albums
"Variety is the Spice of Life" and "Deeper Transmissions"
and "The Last Polar Bear on Earth" (all Statik Rek) featured
intricately programmed beats with the music creating an otherworldly
and often unsettling and chilly backdrop. Over the course of recent
releases, such as "Cities EP" and "I Am You Are Me;
Remixes and Unreleased" (both Make Mine Music), the atmospheres
have slowly thawed and melody has come increasingly to the fore. On
the new album "Northwest Passage's New Era", Pascal has
ventured even further down this path and the music has a sense of
emerging from darkness into the light. The intricately programmed
beats are still present, but the emphasis is firmly on melody and
structure, and the sound is rooted in hip-hop rather than ambient
music. Featuring guest appearances by Ulrich Schnauss and Port-Royal
amongst others, the album also sees the first vocals on a Millimetrik
release courtesy of Sean Heenan of Auburn Lull and Marie Jorge, whose
beautiful vocals grace the album's final track. With this new album,
Millimetrik has exceeded the already very high standards of previous
releases. "Northwest Passage's New Era" is a consistently
enjoyable, engaging and varied listen that Make Mine Music is proud
to release.

modern sort of artistic calculation, Burma's music could evoke everything
from the Beatles' ecstatic run of Hamburg rock clubs in the early
60s to the lightning-speed hardcore punk that was developing in the
US during Burma's tenure. In this sense, Burma can be said to have
blithely encapsulated punk's overarching mission: to draw a line connecting

the music's anarchic condition" - Salon.com.

Monochrome Set
The Independent Singles Collection (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, UK Suave; debonair; sophisticated. Haughty, perhaps, for those
who favor the pejorative. Aristocratic in more than one sense, classy
in at least as many. The Monochrome Set were effortlessly inventive,
literate, poised and immaculate of tuneage, possessed of an internal
dialogue as a band that allowed them to surf their own narrative.
They were just unlike anything else, in layman s terms. Instead, their
sound harked back to a golden era of British pop songwriters. But
there was nothing retrogressive about their endeavors. Instead they
wrote songs that recreated the drama and promise of a Pearl &
Dean interval theme, veering from lullaby to mambo to harmonic pop,
accompanied by lush melodies and irresistibly playful lyrics that
embraced morbidity at one extreme, and pitch-perfect satire at another.
Because they could. Brand new release of Monochrome Set's complete
independent singles collection including b-sides and rare tracks Norman
Cook aka Fatboy Slim, a long-term fan of the band, has recorded a

less than a pre-Loggins Jimmy Messina, Earl Palmer, Hal Blaine, David

Park Avenue Music
By Hearts + Horses (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 8TH)
PS, US Sacramento couple Wes Steed and Jeannette "Juju"
Faith got a shiny new piano - really shiny. So up went the mics and
out came the music. Flowing pieces of raw improvisation from Juju
were recorded and then dressed, bit by bit, by Wes in layers of modular
synth distortion; some for the fun of making soundtracks for short
films by New Zealand artist and web designer Fuyuko Akiyoshi; some
for the fun of mixing 10 minutes of piano music down to 3; or making
3 minute songs out of 4 measures of sometimes bluesy, sometimes ethereal
use of the 88s. When one mic picked up off-the-cuff vocals for several
tracks, another picked up the team's beloved cat Harrison's collar
bell ringing in the background for what seems the sweetest topping
to the already honeyed instrumental "Norway Kitty", the
opening track on what has become park avenue music's loveliest accomplishment
yet. Befriending cellist Gretchen Lehtonen in time to add her touch
to that first track (even if recorded backwards) was a lucky move.
The trio has played a handful of boutique performances, each one unique
and special as they improvised in the dark while streams of Akiyoshi's
imagery served as backdrop. They have also brought a crowded house
of listeners to silence - even when equipment failed, piano and cello
went on to duet without the noise of synthesizers, drum machines,
and Unix-based applications. "by hearts + horses" may seem
an odd title, but given that the band has morphed over the years and
is indeed changing their name to "hearts + horses", this
last effort as park avenue music seemed only fit to be thusly titled.
(File under Park Avenue music and/or Hearts + Horses.) "While
many artists are using a Moog, Roland, or Juno for bouncy pop, Park
Avenue Music approaches the unique instruments as if they were gentle
as flowers. It could be Jeannette Faith's concert pianist training
or simply a love for exquisite sounds. Either way, To Take With You
is an alluring ensemble of downtempo and quiet, sophisticated pop."
-Kenyon Hopkin, All Music Guide "Mixing very nice programming
of lush electronics with soft, breathy female vocals, it manages to
sound somewhat like several different things...without really sounding
too much like anyone." - Almost Cool "I'm starting to think
that this sort of electronic pop is the new shoegaze for me-no matter
how many times I hear these wispy, glitchy sounds, I never seem to
get tired of them. And that's especially true when a band like Park
Avenue Music does it this well." - Opus Zine

Powell, Baden & Vinicius De Moraes
Os Afro-Sambas / A Vontade (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 25TH)
PS, UK Vinicius de Moraes was the principal lyricist of Bossa Nova,
(Girl from Ipanema, Chega de Saudade and Insensatez are amongst the
famous international hit songs he wrote with Tom Jobim), and Os Afro-Sambas
is his response to the commercialization of the movement by the mid-sixties.
Co-written with the brilliant Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell and
eventually released in 1966, these eight songs combine Powell's melodic
gifts with Bahian folk traditions and Gregorian chant. With the joyous
vocalizations of Quarteto Em Cy, the atmosphere is at once haunting
and spontaneous. The music hasn't even begun to date. Recorded at
a time when musicians around the world were looking to break down
barriers - between classical and pop, East and West - but the Afro-sambas
appear to recognize no such barriers in the first place. Os Afro-Sambas
is an absolute stunner. One of the most exquisite pieces of Brazilian
music ever recorded, it is combined on this edition with the intimate,
irresistible, A Vontade, Baden's most successful solo LP of the period
and one of his finest achievements.

S-T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, AUSTRALIA Recorded in two sessions through 2007 when SHARRON KRAUS
& GILLIAN CHADWICK (Ex-Reverie) teamed up with engineer Greg Weeks,
who helped capture the duo's organic & sometimes unusual instrumentation,
from dulcimer & guitar to pennywhistles & goat's nail shaker,
and contributed his own accents to a few tracks: acid Les Paul leads
& vintage 70's synths. Eight tracks of haunting, ritualistic,
magical pagan-folk were the result, varying from the darkly processional
tale of dispossession, though the Comus-like ceremonies of the title
track, to the extended forest folk trance on the concluding "Wild

Secret Shine
All Of The Stars (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE APRIL 8TH)
PS, US "All of the Stars" is Secret Shine's second studio
album, and their first in 14 years. The band took an unscheduled nine
year break before returning in 2004 with the release of their back
catalogue (After Years) on Clairecords, followed by two emphatically-received
EPs of new material in 2006, and live shows in Europe and America.
"All of the Stars" encapsulate the passion of Secret Shine's
live power pop in the heart-thumping 'Oblivion', 'Voice of the Sea'
and 'The Sound of Light' but is both delicate and beautiful in 'All
that's left' and 'Last Leaves'. Secret Shine has lost none of the
sumptuous boy/girl harmonies and celestial melodies (never more evident
than in the heavenly 'Stars in the Sky') that made their debut album
Untouched such a classic that is still revered in shoegazing circles
today. Secret Shine dedicated 2007 to write and record All of the
Stars and demo'd twice the amount of songs they needed for the album
so that only the finest would survive. The band have grown on this
record - the sound is stronger and more confident, expertly produced
and directed by Shine protagonist Jamie Gingell. The band drift effortlessly
between the epic, orchestral arrangements of 'Café Crash' and
the sparse, haunting piano-led 'Another Day'. All of the Stars would
sit comfortably alongside shoegaze classics like Slowdive's Souvlaki,
My Bloody Valentine's Loveless and The Pale Saints' The Comforts of
Madness, but Secret Shine have created their own unique treasure and
possibly the new wave of 'stargaze'.

She & Him
Volume 1 (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, US M. Ward and actress Zooey Deschanel met on a film they were
both appearing in called The Go-Getter. The director wanted them to
do a duet in the film of a Linda & Richard Thompson cover. This
inspired them to then do a full on collaboration of which Volume One
is the end product. There are a couple covers, Smokey Robinson and
The Beatles, and the rest are all old-timey warm sounding originals.
It has a very analog, at times girl-group sound to it so much so that
the songs come off more as instant standards rather than typical indie
classics. This album already has serious blog love from both the film
& music communities, and the pair will more than likely do some
high profile live dates around release

Skyphone
Avellaneda (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, NORWAY This is the second full-length release by Danish trio Skyphone
for the Rune Grammofon label. Having played in various rock outfits
during most of the '90s, childhood friends Keld Dam Schmidt, Thomas
Holst and Mads Bødker slowly moved towards the electronica
scene and the German dub scene before starting Skyphone in 1999. Since
then, they have steadily developed their own style, combining traditional
rock instruments with electronics; scratching and carefully damaging
the surface of the digital sounds, creating melodic pop songs without
singing, leaving it to the listener to infer what the songs actually
could have been and what is lurking virtually beneath the constrained,
deliberately ambiguous surface of the song. With Avellaneda, they
have further developed these ideas into a seamless blend of acoustic
and electronic elements, rich in detail and sonic refinement, with
the occasional touch of Scandinavian folk music providing a strong
melodic base.

Soundpool
Dichotomies + Dreamland (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 11TH)
PS, US Forming in 2005 Soundpool is a NYC-based 5-piece shoegaze,
space rock, audio/visual act with sweet girlie vocals, saturated guitar
sounds, lush synth arrangements and a danceable driving rhythm section.
Soundpool's first album, On High, reached the top spot on the Tonevendor
charts for well over a month in late 2006 - Soundpool has since quietly
placed themselves in the center of the new shoegaze/dream pop movement
of music, sharing the stage with great acts: Robin Guthrie, Ulrich
Schnauss, A Place To Bury Strangers, Mahogany, Asobi Seksu, Spectrum,
Star, Kyte, Auburn Lull and Butterfly Explosion to name a few. Soundpool's
second full-length album Dichotomies & Dreamland is in many ways
the classic psychedelic album in a post electronica age. Conceptually,
the album can be broken into two parts... the conscious and the subconscious.
Stylistically, the album follows a thread that perhaps starts in the
mid-sixties when pop artists of the day started taking hallucinogens
and making records that were a bit more eclectic, cerebral and daring...
pushing the boundaries of what a rock & roll record could be.
Dichotomies & Dreamland was made in the spirit of that sort of
artistic attitude but it's not deliberately of even necessarily retro
per se... in fact it is quite modern in an indie sort of way. Elements
of Shoegaze, Dreampop, Space Rock, Psychedelic and Electronic are
all present. Over a year and a half in the making... we hope you enjoy
our latest bodywork! "Soundpool's drone and roll has had my ears
for some time. Shoegaze is a genre always in need of new blood, and
few new artists match Soundpool's vocal delivery and sonic awareness.
While their drone teeters on the tip toes of instability, it's Kim
Fields vocals that seamlessly hold the chaos together." -Musicisnotdead.
"This sounds great! Of all the newer stuff I was able to come
across, I especially like what you guys are doing." -John Cofer,
Music Director WTBU. "I walked off Orchard St. on the Lower East
side into Pianos, waded my way through the sea of heads and walked
right into the "Exploding Plastic Inevtitable"... the multimedia
sensory blast definitely conjured up the Velvet underground imagery
but Soundpool's sound was closer to early 90's Stereolab. The crowd
was diggin' the impressive performance... this was one of the best
sets I've seen in a while by a band that could be labeled "shoegaze"".
-Fiddle While You Burn "When Lush wrote Sweetness and Light at
the height of shoegazing, I wonder if they had anticipated Soundpool,
the latest act to breath life into a fondly missed genre? Cosmic,
phased guitars combine with breathy, angelic vocals and sequenced
programming. Yet beneath the swirl of effects beats a heart of pure
pop." -Brett Spaceman, EVILSPONGE.

PS, UK LTM are pleased to present In A Manner Of Speaking (Best Of),
a collection of outstanding tracks by Winston Tong, the songwriter
and performance artist best known as frontman of the group Tuxedomoon.
Recorded between 1982 and 1990, the twelve tracks gathered on In A
Manner of Speaking include five tracks from Winston's acclaimed 1985
solo album Theoretically Chinese, produced by former Associate Alan
Rankine and featuring a stellar cast of guest musicians including
Jah Wobble, Steven Morris, Simon Topping and Dave Formula. Two are
in the form of dance remixes previously only available on an Italian
maxi single. This Best Of CD also features representative tracks from
Winston's other two solo albums Like The Others and Miserere, as well
as rare compilation tracks: covers of Duke Ellington's Prelude to
a Kiss, witty festive ditty The Twelve Days of Christmas, and Syd
Barrett's Late Night. Also included are two especially memorable Tong
songs recorded with Tuxedomoon, Albert Camus tribute The Stranger
and In A Manner of Speaking, the 1985 song later covered by Martin
Gore of Depeche Mode and more recently by Nouvelle Vague. As a result
of the Nouvelle Vague cover version, IAMOS has now become a standard,
featuring in the soundtracks of several high profile movies and television
shows, including A Mighty Heart, Sugar Rush, Fragile and Riviera.

Phantom Guitars: A Cool Collection of Twangin' Guitar (PRE-ORDER:
SALEABLE MARCH 18TH)
PS, UK Instrumentals from the UK 1961-1964. For a short period in
the UK, guitar-led instrumental groups took control. In the three
year span between rock & roll and the full flush of beat, there
was no bigger band than The Shadows. Their magical brand of twanging
melody incorporated elements of Duane Eddy and The Ventures, but was
something entirely British. And, as always, when someone comes up
with a winning formula, everybody else suddenly leaps on board. So,
in contrast to the clean-cut crooners, coffee bars, dancehalls and
fairgrounds reverberated to the sound of Binson echo units and primitive
Bigsby-esque tremelo arms. This CD ventures back in time a little
further than previous Psychic Circle releases to round up a string-bending
selection of some the finest examples of this genre.

PS, UK Yes indeed! It's Sweet Gene Vincent! Do we need say more? What
else do you need to know? Oh, OK then! Back in the dear dead days
when singers of 30-ish weren't just about to form their first indie
band, GENE, the man who had wowed America, challenged Elvis, launched
Rock n Roll in Britain and France and inspired a generation, was seen
in his native land as a bit of a has-been...his audience was the French
arty intelligentsia and UK Teds...but there were still those who believed
in Gene...one was Kama Sutra, the New York label who brought us The
Lovin' Spoonful and Gene fanatics The Flamin' Groovies (and obliquely
The Shangri-Las too, but that's another story...) In 1969 and 1970
they put Gene in their newly acquired LA studio with the cream of
young session men to produce an album. Taking a cue from The Band,
Bob Dylan, The Sir Douglas Quintet, and possibly fellow not as old
as you might think rocker Dale Hawkins (who had just had an amazing
album out himself!) Gene rose to the occasion bigtime! Possibly one
of the most unexpected and astonishing albums of roots rock and Americana

I Hate People (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 15TH)
PS, US Windy Weber, known for being half of the ambient drone duo
WINDY & CARL, has recorded a solo album. It is quite different
from what you may be thinking - it has none of the soothing characteristics
you may be expecting & instead is full of heavy & brooding
music. It's comprised of two tracks - Sirens, coming in at 24 minutes,
is instrumental & is filled with the sound of guitars crying,
rising & falling like waves crashing on the rocks. Sirens is ominous,
and haunting. It is not music to sleep to, but instead could make
you tense & anxious. The second track is Destroyed. It is 32 minutes
long, and comprised of 3 suites. The first being layers of vocals,
woven together to make a chorus of breathing & breathlessness,
layers to make you feel as if you may be drowning in the sea...whether
that sea be the ocean, or the sea of life, the day to day world in
which you must deal. The second suite becomes noisy, agitated, rumbling
& distorted guitars, bass & feedback, and makes you sit on
the edge of your seat wondering what is about to happen. The third
suite takes you to the end of the album with subsonic frequencies
& strange unrecognizable sounds. This is not music for the faint
of heart.
