I'll be interested to see how the songs and scores are used in the miniseries, but spread across two CDs it's like a freakin' Rock Opera, featuring a little bit of everything: Bjorn Olsson-esque acoustic and electric instrumental interludes, gritty organ-fueled garage-rock, some mesmerizing live stuff... So totally of-the-era, but I guess that is not surprising! Includes contributions from several of Barjed's TSOOL mates, including frontman Ebbot Lundberg; a brand new song from The Tallest Man On Earth; plus guest appearances by Elope's Sebastian Aronsson and Anders Person, Hipwhips' Markus Lindmark, The Frustration's Jan Martens, Mustasch's Ralf Gyllenhammar and series actors/stars Sverrir Gudnasson and Fanny Risberg, among others! The Scrawlys EP
PS, GERMANY Shane Berry was born in South Africa and presently lives in Japan's capital, Tokyo. There he creates his tracks, all of which go directly from the ears to the legs. He released an EP on Trapez and tracks on the New York label Synewave. His songs are played and charted by numerous DJs, and colleagues such as Richie Hawtin and Dominik Eulberg hold Berry's work in high esteem. The new EP on Glückskind might also please them. Again Shane takes two bass lines and twists the sounds for several minutes through an electronic meat grinder. Over the kick, it pulsates and holds it all together perfectly. 'Scrawlys' is refined, reduced minimal techno. 'Deep Space' goes a bit deeper, techno-wise. Indeed, there is also a dominating bass loop, but the insertion of reverb and delay leaves the track with far more room to breathe.

Tackling a 28 minute album of sparse folk by an artist whose life went largely undocumented (there are no known video clips or interviews with Drake) is a daunting task, but Petrusich handles the job nicely by telling the story through interviews with the people who knew Drake and worked with him musically, as well as testimonials from current artists who have felt his influence. She also does a great service to the readers by not painting Drake as some romantically doomed poetic soul, like so many other writers have done in the past. In fact, she does an excellent job of dispelling many Drake myths (ex: he didn't anonymously leave the tapes for Pink Moon at Island's reception desk without saying a word), and even points out flaws in the album (many of the vocals are garbled). PS, JAPAN Modern Ambivalence is the fourth album by Leeds long standing proponent of electronic music, RandomNumber. Modern Ambivalence is the latest incarnation of an evolving style which has taken shape over the past eight or so years which flowered from early noise experiments that gave way to a tentative and primitive electronica that was released on the now defunct, yet legendary CDR label, Fencing Flatworm. Since these early digital musings Robson's music has charted a course of increasing melody and of rhythmical complication with releases for California's Rocket Racer 2002's Understand Your Date & Time of Nowhere and Mogwai's Rock Action 2001's NME Dance single of the Week "The Fact That I Did" EP, Towards The Forlorn Society (2003) for Catmobile Records took the trademark sound to it's limit with it's brittle and unsettling mix of rhythmic obfuscation and winter smeared synth impressionism that tested the boundaries of home brewed electronic music. During this period, other more accessible EPs and mixes appeared for labels as diverse as Vacuous Pop and Irritant (who gave homes to early releases by Kid606, Knifehandchop and Printed Circuit). Shows with the likes of I Am Robot & Proud, Printed Circuit, Kid 606 and Cex would see the randomNumber live performance taken across the waters to France, USA, Mexico and Canada throughout the whole 2002 to 2004 period and would represent Robson's most prolific period of international touring as a solo artist. The tensions of these awkward, yet compelling mid-period pieces soon gave way to a more confident and relaxed sound that was no less compromising in it's desire to chart the dark and melancholic landscape of contemporary electronica, but presented a more coherent and accessible sound that appealed to a wider audience. Golden Acre Sleeps (Highpoint Lowlife) (2006) ushers in the dawn of a Post-Electronica era of scene fragmentation and ghettoisation with bedroom producers increasingly marginalized into obscurity or MP3 mediocrity, against this backdrop, Golden Acre comes across as a breath of fresh air from the very grassroots of the scene. Throughout this recent period, the randomNumber sound continues to develop, as Golden Acre was being released to a world increasingly enthralled by the new breed of over confident pretty boys with guitars, giddy on corporate expense accounts, Robson continues to be a credible live performer at both rock and electronic shows, playing with the likes of Thee More Shallows, Pram, Clark, A Silver Mount Zion, Christ and Bracken to name a few, showcasing material from the Modern Ambivalence sessions.

Way Out is Alessandra's third album of original material, following Overground (1997) and Chi Mi Darà le Ali (2006). Recorded in Rome in 2007, Way Out marks an innovative exploration of several musical styles, including vocal tracks sung by Alessandra as well as a number of her exquisite solo piano compositions. She is joined on most of the tracks by drummer Fabio Ferri, while Renzo Pin provided English-language lyrics. Stand-out tracks include Dear To Me, Burning and Hundred Points, the latter a future pop classic complemented by a brilliant animated video clip made by Tony Sbarbaro. A unique set that defies classification, Way Out also features one bonus song, the beautiful title track from Alessandra's previous artist album, Chi Mi Darà le Ali. The memorable cover image is the painting Pensando alla Guerra by artist Isobel Blank. Short biography: Alessandra Celletti studied piano at the Santa Cecilia Music Conservatory in Rome . After graduating she continued her studies with Vera Gobbi Belcredi, specializing in French piano works of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. In 1994 she released Les sons et les parfums, an album of pieces by Debussy, Ravel and Satie. Since then she has followed an irregular artistic path, characterized by sudden departures from classical music. Her second album, Viaggio a Praga, an exploration of the work of Bohemian composers, saw Alessandra awarded a scholarship by the Czech Republic in 1997. On returning to Italy she began working with Kha Records. Her collection Esoterik Satie proved hugely popular in France , and Gnossienne #1 was used by Guy Ritchie in his 2005 movie Revolver. Alessandra is now preparing to release two new albums. The Golden Fly will appear in Italy in October 2007, and Way Out by LTM in January 2008.

PS, UK Almost immediately after the demise of The Monkees in 1970, there was industry clamour for a reunion and publisher Christian Dewalden came forward with an offer to finance the project. Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones were enthusiastic but as Mike Nesmith wasn't interested and Peter Tork couldn't be found a kind of pseudo-Monkees was created enlisting the services of gifted songwriting team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, who had written The Monkees first number one 'Last Train To Clarksville', 'The Monkees Theme (Hey, Hey We're The Monkees)' and '(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone'. So Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart was born. With the Monkees logo under copyright and not available for their use, the foursome set off on tour as 'the great golden hits of the Monkees - the guys who wrote 'em and the guys who sang 'em.' DJBH made its first public appearance on July 4, 1975 at six flags over mid-America in St. Louis, Missouri, where they were met by 12,500 of the same screaming fans who had followed the Monkees 10 years previously. Performing a raft of Monkee hits (Peter Tork had joined DJBH onstage at Disneyland) the band appeared on 'American Bandstand' and 'Don Kirshner's rock concert' and toured the States for a year before heading to the far east. They have the distinction of being the first American band to play in Thailand (they had to cut their hair to be allowed into the country!). The success of the American tour secured a contract with capitol records. The subsequent 'Dolenz Jones Boyce & Hart' was produced by Boyce & Hart and though light and very pop, is regarded as the most coherent Monkeerelated

Gustaf Kjellvander and his friends in The Fine Arts Showcase have made a covers album, entirely based on songs from the Swedish, rather unknown, jangly, lo-fi band Rough Bunnies. Why is that? Let's make Gustaf himself explain: "I was first introduced to Anna Vermina and her cousin Frida, the founding members of Rough Bunnies and Inside Riot, through mutual friends. Frida gave me a CD-R just days before they were about to move to Berlin. About six months later I was looking for someone to rent my spare room. I bumped into Frida by chance, who told me she had moved back from Berlin to Malmö and needed a place to stay - so she moved in. I was already smitten by Inside Riot at this time, and when Frida played me the songs they had recorded in Berlin, along with the Rough Bunnies record C-sides, it blew me away. I played it to everyone who came over to my house. They became an obsession that carries on to this day. I knew I wanted the Fine Arts Showcase to cover their songs. The problem was that with a catalogue of songs as amazing as theirs it was hard to pick just one, so I came up with the idea that we should do an entire record instead (in the Merle Haggard sings Jimmy Rodgers tradition). And here it is: a musical love letter to two of my favorite songwriters, a celebration of the pop geniuses of the Vermina family. Heaven, a jazz rock group from Portsmouth, burst forth onto the British rock scene in 1970 when they appeared at the legendary Isle of Wight festival sharing a bill with The Who, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix et al. Making a stunning debut, the band (now managed by festival organiser Rikki Farr), soon secured a recording deal with CBS Records who signed the band for a large advance. The resulting double album "Brass Rock 1" appeared in 1971, adorned in a lavish fold-out sleeve. Well received critically, the album failed to achieve the expected success and Heaven soon disbanded, leaving behind a fine example of classic jazz rock. Officially released on CD for the first time, this Esoteric Recordings reissue is digitally remastered from the original master tapes and restores the artwork of the album in full.

PS, UK 60's Brit Pop with an influence on 90's Brit Pop. Includes rare Joe Meek produced tracks. All first time on CD, and first ever reissue. After writing the soundtrack to the quintessential pre- Beatles English pop movie What A Crazy World Alan Klein scored a deal with Decca to write and perform his view of English society at the time. His style of delivery was very distinctive, not unlike contemporary Anthony Newley, and writing like Lionel Bart. Alan was managed by Ken Pitt who also had another client called David Jones, soon to be David Bowie. That the early style of Bowie's delivery is also akin to Kleins must surely be more than coincidence. In the mid 90's Damon Albarn was asked about his influences and said about this LP " ...it was instrumental in me making Modern Life Is Rubbish,and changing and getting an idea of my own self.... I can't believe that David Bowie didn't know him inside out, and the same with Ray Davies. My favourite track goes ' he's a twentieth-century Englishman ' (see Blur's For Tomorrow). It's a fantastic record." Klein went on to tour the world as vocalist in the New Vaudeville Band. For bonus tracks we include the two singles he wrote and recorded in 1962, both produced by Joe Meek, and the 1965 singles including the withdrawn Age Of Corruption.

PS, GERMANY We are extremely excited to announce the 1st collaboration between the Dekorder label and our old friend, local conspirator and private hair gardener Felix Kubin. Kubin has achieved worldwide reputation by releasing post-dadaist, futuristic NDW-influenced Organ&Korg smash hits on his own Gagarin label, on A-Musik, Ski-pp, Meeuw, Diskono et al. He has collaborated with People Like Us, Coolhaven, Mark Boombastik, Asmus Tietchens, ensemble Intégrales, David Fenech, Ergo Phizmiz, Boris D. Hegenbart, Wojtek Kucharczyk and many others. His first recordings date back to his teenage years in the early 1980's, followed by his electroacoustic noise duo Klangkrieg and the pseudo-communist Liedertafel Margot Honecker. Right from the start Felix Kubin has written and recorded music for films (hence the title of his first album) by the likes of Mariola Brillowska and Anke Feuchtenberger and continues the German tradition of "Hörspiel" (radio play) with works such as "Territerrortorium", "Nachtspeicher", "Orpheus' Psykotron" and "Syndikat für Gegenlärm" (with guest appearances by Matmos, DAT Politics and Wolfgang Müller of Die Tödliche Doris). Some of Kubin's most gorgeous and adventurous works are his contributions to "The Raft" (a radio play by the mysterious Xentos Bentos of The Homosexuals, directed by Lukas Simonis of Coolhaven, Trespassers W, Dull Schicksal) and his soundtracks for theatre plays by Branko Simic ("Zufall", based on a short story by Vladimir Nabokov) and the notorious Schorsch Kamerun. The latter (known in Germany as a member of Goldene Zitronen) directed "Hollywood Elegien" based on a song cycle by Bert Brecht and Hanns Eisler. Now the best parts of these works are for the first time available on LP and CD, simply (and aptly) titled "Music for Theatre and Radio Play". While the musical spectrum on this release covers a variety of styles and moods it's still almost immediately recognizable as a typically Kubin-ist work featuring the main ingredients his records and body-and-mind-boggling live shows are famous for. Twisted rythms & playfully clever arrangements that could have been created by a mutated reincarnation of the legendary Juan Esquivel; hauntingly ethereal tracks sounding like a narcoleptic John Carpenter playing Angelo Badalamenti arrangements; contorted Big Band music, pre-war Schlager and Vaudeville sent through a malfunctioning pre-digital time machine; Ennio Morricone cloned as a Russian male choir; instrumental workers' songs Hanns Eisler might have imagined in a feverish nightmare - it's all there, and more!

His songs are played and charted by numerous DJs, and colleagues such as Richie Hawtin and Dominik Eulberg hold Berry's work in high esteem. The new EP on Glückskind might also please them. Again Shane takes two bass lines and twists the sounds for several minutes through an electronic meat grinder. Over the kick, it pulsates and holds it all together perfectly. 'Scrawlys' is refined, reduced minimal techno. 'Deep Space' goes a bit deeper, techno-wise. Indeed, there is also a dominating bass loop, but the insertion of reverb and delay leaves the track with far more room to breathe. Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones were enthusiastic but as Mike Nesmith wasn't interested and Peter Tork couldn't be found a kind of pseudo-Monkees was created enlisting the services of gifted songwriting team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, who had written The Monkees first number one 'Last Train To Clarksville', 'The Monkees Theme (Hey, Hey We're The Monkees)' and '(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone'. So Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart was born. With the Monkees logo under copyright and not available for their use, the foursome set off on tour as 'the great golden hits of the Monkees - the guys who wrote 'em and the guys who sang 'em.' DJBH made its first public appearance on July 4, 1975 at six flags over mid-America in St. Louis, Missouri, where they were met by 12,500 of the same screaming fans who had followed the Monkees 10 years previously. Gustaf Kjellvander and his friends in The Fine Arts Showcase have made a covers album, entirely based on songs from the Swedish, rather unknown, jangly, lo-fi band Rough Bunnies. Why is that? Let's make Gustaf himself explain: "I was first introduced to Anna Vermina and her cousin Frida, the founding members of Rough Bunnies and Inside Riot, through mutual friends. Frida gave me a CD-R just days before they were about to move to Berlin. About six months later I was looking for someone to rent my spare room. I bumped into Frida by chance, who told me she had moved back from Berlin to Malmö and needed a place to stay - so she moved in. I was already smitten by Inside Riot at this time, and when Frida played me the songs they had recorded in Berlin, along with the Rough Bunnies record C-sides, it blew me away. His style of delivery was very distinctive, not unlike contemporary Anthony Newley, and writing like Lionel Bart. Alan was managed by Ken Pitt who also had another client called David Jones, soon to be David Bowie. That the early style of Bowie's delivery is also akin to Kleins must surely be more than coincidence. In the mid 90's Damon Albarn was asked about his influences and said about this LP " ...it was instrumental in me making Modern Life Is Rubbish,and changing and getting an idea of my own self.... I can't believe that David Bowie didn't know him inside out, and the same with Ray Davies. My favourite track goes ' he's a twentieth-century Englishman ' (see Blur's For Tomorrow). Kubin has achieved worldwide reputation by releasing post-dadaist, futuristic NDW-influenced Organ&Korg smash hits on his own Gagarin label, on A-Musik, Ski-pp, Meeuw, Diskono et al. He has collaborated with People Like Us, Coolhaven, Mark Boombastik, Asmus Tietchens, ensemble Intégrales, David Fenech, Ergo Phizmiz, Boris D. Hegenbart, Wojtek Kucharczyk and many others. His first recordings date back to his teenage years in the early 1980's, followed by his electroacoustic noise duo Klangkrieg and the pseudo-communist Liedertafel Margot Honecker.
