Audiofly X
4 Play
PS, GERMANY Upcoming UK duo Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporito aka
Audiofly X make their debut on Get Physical with a three-tracker that
sounds fresh and entertaining. Lead track "4 Play" does
what its title suggests, teasing the listener and moving in a number
of different directions. Just when you think that you've got used
to the cold, skeletal drums, Audiofly X seduce with haunting chords,
and by the time that the reconstituted trance riff drops, the listener
will be ready to explode with passion. "Are We There Yet?"
is a real hands in the air, smiley-faced moment, combining old-school
rave samples with ultra modern metallic drum sounds, powerful bass
pulses and austere chords.

Badawi
Final Warning
PS, US Sub Dub's percussionist Raz Mesinai manifests here in his Bedouin
guise, deplying 5 tracks showcasing his cultural heritage through
a New York filter. "F. W." has a persuasively swaying main
drum loop, topped w/ stretched ullulations & sirens which lend
a hallucinatory character to the cross-pollinated groove, while "Do
We Belong" shows that bagpipes are not a purely Celtic invention.
Badawi mixes pipes, chants & depth-charge dub bass expansion on
"Bedouin Raid," which is as energetic as the title indicates,
while Simmie Sernaker's haunting violin drones & scrapes combine
w/ the low-end rumble & swirling drum rhythms of "Yashar"
to provide the EP's highlight, a glorious combination of ancient and
modern trance techniques. The dark edge which haunts this EP separates
the mood from the usual ethnological forgeries & pastiches of
the more festival-friendly blends of Eastern and Western music; it's
upbeat, but defiantly so. "Anthrax Sandwich - Today's Special"
is a case in point - the circling drums & pipes build a vortex
of increasingly edgy intensity, accentuated by an eardrum rush &
a gradual fade into denied release. An EP which presages great things
to come, & could well open a few ears to Moroccan & other
North African music.

Bootleg Remedy, The
Cutting Time
PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "The second release from New York City's
greatest old-timey music revivalists, the Bootleg Remedy continue
to wade through the source waters of American music... Providing fun
on par with that of the Squirrel Nut Zippers or R. Crumb & the
Cheap Suit Serenaders, Gould has an undeniably refined talent for
breathing new life into songs written long before he was born and
creating new compositions that sound similarly ancient... Overall,
a mixing pot of country, jazz, blues, and Western swing that boils
over gloriously for 45 minutes." /// THE VILLAGE VOICE: "Covering
an eclectic range, from tuba and fiddle to saw, with especially fine
lap steel and clarinet. Their sound has been compared to Bill Monroe
and Louis Armstrong, but closer in their gutty resolve, I think, are
once-removed cousins of the masters, like the Band and the Mekons...
Toe-tapping fun that brings Disneyland parades to NYC watering holes."
/// TIME OUT NEW YORK: "The CDs feel so homey that you keep waiting
for the telltale crackles and pops associated with the old 78s."
/// NEW YORK PRESS: "Some of the best bluegrass revivalists in
America today."

Bootleg Remedy, The
S-T
PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "By exposing the ragtime roots of both
Dixieland jazz and bluegrass, the Bootleg Remedy find the crossroads
where Louis Armstrong and Bill Monroe meet. A rambunctiously fun outing
similar to the string band recordings of R. Crumb and the Cheap Suit
Serenaders, banjoist/mandolinist/vocalist David Gould leads his band
through seven barn burners that sound as if they should be playing
in the background of some grainy 1930s children's cartoon. With good-natured
banjo, guitar, and tuba laying the foundation for some hot trombone
and violin, "Davo's Rag" and "Snake Juice" take
familiar-sounding blues progressions and send them off on improvisational
side roads with decidedly happy feet. Not content to simply plug into
the standard renditions, "Old Salty Dog Blues" is treated
to a clattering jug band makeover, just as "Blue Moon of Kentucky"
is remade as a nearly unrecognizable dirge until breaking into a shuffling
Dixieland street procession. Overall, a set of songs that fly by in
just under 25 minutes but establish the Bootleg Remedy as one of the
greatest Dixieland/old-timey revivalists of the early 21st century."

Bun Hunga and His Combo
Relax
PS, SPAIN "Limited repress of this little known gem by Dutch
Hammond king Roland Thyssen under his Bun Hunga pseudonym which has
already been tipped as one of the best exploited albums of the continent.
Bun Hunga and his Diplomatic Music (as it appeared in early 7"s
and some issues of the album) recorded this killer exploitation album
which, unlike many of its counterparts, is a solid killer from start
to finish (not a single dumb filler in sight!). Originally released
in Belgium, and licensed to Spain and Argentina, some of the tracks
were later repackaged in a couple of albums (Trumpet Prayer and Music
in Transit) by the mysterious Golden Music Orchestra. Thyssen's organ
dominates the album all over, an 11-track selection covering a wide
array of moods, grooves and tempos: from the classic Euro sounds of
'Happy Starting' and 'Privilege For Organ' to the the exotic influenced
grooves of 'Play For Suzy' and the incredible 'Bangala' via the mysterious
jazz of 'Quiet Ballad' or the relaxed 'Cabal In The Night.' A mixture
of go-go Latin rhythms, funky arrangements, masterful studio trickery,
exotic atmospheres, top band action and screaming fuzz parts. Think
The Underground Set, La Formule Du Baron, Jungle Obsession, Mandingo
and other groovers of the era... this is European exploitation as
its best."

passing through the best of Pole's Berlin crackle dub. . Utterly seductive.

strings and a wicked break. Massive tune! The B-side holds two more
high-spirited tracks with "What's Your Name" being a bit
more relaxed and deep, while "Lazy Bastard" edges upwards
again to a good pace with a great arrangement and a 100% positive

pop, you've come to the right place! Only 150 copies were pressed

1968 album, Rain & Shine, an almost willfully secret psych-pop

of many rarities from The Canterbury Music Festival to the Brute Force

Frost, Thomas and Richard
Visualize
PS, UK 2002 release. "Of all the known or rumored 'lost' albums
from the odd pop era when everyone wanted a go at a super-pop classic
a la Brian Wilson, this is perhaps the most thoroughly lost...as the
only essay in this style by the artist, it was a case of never before
and never again! Richard and Tom Martin were mainstays of The Art
Collection aka Powder, America's closest shot at the pop-art sound
of The Who or The Creation. After a number of classic (and now ruinously
expensive) singles failed to set the charts alight, a change of direction
was clearly called for. Calling themselves Thomas and Richard Frost,
the brothers signed to Imperial Records and made a number of classic
pop singles, some of which indeed hit the lower reaches of the charts,
all in preparation for their masterwork, Visualize unfortunately,
reorganization at Imperial after their acquisition by Liberty Records
meant the album was cancelled: at such a late stage that production
masters complete with catalog number and half-completed artwork have
languished in the vaults until now. Tom and Rich's next project was
an accomplished country-rock album for UNI Records, the breathtaking
pop experiment of Visualize remaining a closed chapter...until now."

PS, GERMANY Satoshi Fumi is one of the most exciting house producers
from Japan. During the mid-1990s, he grew interested in the Detroit,
Chicago and New York house movements, and absorbed the different sounds
of electronic music throughout that period, helping him to shape,
develop and influence his own unique style. Satoshi's production skills
have matured enough today, allowing him the freedom to create, and
as a DJ, to mix a variety of dance music styles together such as techno,
house, click and acid. For Satoshi, the opportunity of his lifetime
as a producer arrived in 2002 when DC duo Deep Dish picked up his
track "Protlex" and released it on their Yoshitoshi Recordings.

percussive bleeps and subliminal samples, while "Half Life,"
with its séance-like voices and liquid grooves, swells to the

Hayleck, Andy
Two Gong/Wire Pieces
PS, US "Baltimore-based sound artist Andy Hayleck has worked
primarily with field recordings and bowed metal over the past seven
years in improvised settings, installation and solo composed works.
His previous recordings include The Disappearing Floor (Recorded),
a suite of edited field recordings and vibrating metal sounds; Various
Recordings Involving Ice (Fairfield/HereSee), a set of field recordings
of crystallized H2O; and his bowed saw and cymbal performances with
fricative free music collaborative group Trockeneis (Ehse). Two Gong/Wire
Pieces presents side-long live-to-tape performances using a special
system which Hayleck has invented and with which he has performed
widely - bowing a long wire attached to a Chinese gong, allowing for
special control of the irrational vibrations of the metal plate through
careful control over the tension of the wire and place and style of
bowing. The resulting masses of beating tone-forms are lakes and pools
of eddies or whirlpools born from a deceptively simple and carefully
considered system and a seemingly enormous pair of ears."

Howlin' Magic
Howlin' Magic
PS, US "With no discernible connection to any current micro-scene
or music-making community, Howlin' Magic, aka California free-blues
guitarist Jesse Rakusin, works in relative isolation, laying down
impossibly heavy blues licks, amp noise, and expressionistic drum
tracks at a breathless clip. In early 2006, Rakusin began circulating
a self-titled CD-R of twelve private, four-track recordings. Those
fortunate to hear it were fairly astonished. This was the sort of
record that might have emanated from Siltbreeze or PSF in the early
'90s, a devastating set of home-recorded, white-hot splatter-blues,
at once formally way-out and ultra-primitive in its execution; and
its chief 'architect' was this kid from Santa Cruz whose influences
included Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Simply Saucer, White Heaven, and Stevie
Ray Vaughn. Holy smoke! Rakusin's command of the blues, combined with
his seemingly insatiable appetite for psychedelics, has yielded one
of the most scorching records to issue from the U.S. underground in
years. There's nothing ponderous or 'searching' here - the hippie
affectations and inchoate mysticism that infect our current cultural
environment are all but absent from Rakusin's purview. Instead, what
we've got here is a successful marriage of raw garage-psych and highly
advanced freeform noise."

Javerling, Rickard
The Three Sisters EP
PS, UK Swedish travelling minstrel Rickard Jäverling presents
further moments of heartfelt, folk-inspired beauty. With banjo, drums
and guitar, "Three Sisters" (which also featured on his
Two Times Five Lullaby) distills a Tortoise-inspired post-rock intelligence
blended with traditional folk. "Västbacken" is a hazy
instrumental piece of folk poetry bringing to mind bubbling streams
and the beauty of a childish midsummer adventure. The EP's defining
moment is the 7-minute epic "Sultan," which takes the Chicago
post-rock formula and re-contextualizes it for 2006, giving us something
both reflective and quietly jubilant. Yesternow artists Shoreline
finish off with a remix that injects the original track with a sense
of fun and playful abandon.

Last of The Real Hardmen
10,000 Miles
PS, UK . "Chris Summerlin's debut album under the boastful, ironic
pseudonym Last of the Real Hardmen follows six years of releasing
lathe-cut vinyl and hand-crafted CD-Rs that received tiny circulation
to no more than a small circle of fans. The quality of the tunes on
offer suggest this is a third or fourth album rather than an excitable
first. Summerlin is a virtuoso guitarist and lays down electric guitar
patterns with drums, field recordings and the occasional bottleneck
to provide depth and variation. Instrumental music can be hard to
keep interesting and this is where Summerlin's skill really kicks
in, injecting his form of purist instrumental music with nods towards
inevitably John Fahey merged with the full-bodied widescreen emissions
of Tortoise. The lovely folks at Birdwar have also included 6 tracks
from Summerlin's ultra-limited lathe cut 10" originally released
on Lone Hand recordings and this faultlessly adds to the mass of an
almost worryingly beautiful album. Despite costing 30p to make on

Mecki Mark Men
Marathon
PS, Sweden "This is the 3rd album by Mecki Mark Men. Recorded
in the CHESS studio in Chicago while Mecki Mark Men was on a North
American tour in 1970. Basically it is the same heavy acid space rock
as on their previous Running in the Summer Night album. Mecki Mark
Men was (together with Hansson and Karlsson) Jimi Hendrix's favourite
Swedish band. When Jimi came back from his Swedish tours he probably
told the tales about the wild Swedish Hammond organ tormentor Mecki
Bodemark, who did the same things with his grinding organ as Jimi
did with his guitar. For those of you who yet have not heard MMM I
can tell that they sound like a mix of Teargas, High Tide and Jimi
Hendrix but with a wild organ player and the mighty Kenny Hakansson
on lead guitar, with lots of fuzz and wah-wah, and sitar! After this
album Mecki quit and the band changed their name to Kebnekajse. This
CD includes their Sonet album from 1970 plus a commercial jingle.

Mops, The
Psychedelic Sounds In Japan
PS, US "The Mops are one of Japan's best known 'Group Sound'
(GS) bands, particularly noted for their psychedelic period. The group
was founded in 1966 by high school friends Mikiharu Suzuki (drums),
Taro Miyuki (guitar), Masaru Hoshi (lead guitar) and Kaoru Murakami
(bass), playing mostly instrumental rock like that of the fabulously
popular Ventures. The Mops album Psychedelic Sounds in Japan, released
in April of 1968, was full of flower power flourishes, including cosmic
artwork, ethnic clothing, fuzz guitars and sitar playing. It included
covers of the Airplane's hits 'Somebody To Love' and 'White Rabbit,'
The Doors' 'Light My Fire,' Eric Burdon's 'San Franciscan Nights'
and The Animals' 'Inside Looking Out,' as well as the super Mops theme
song 'I Am Just A Mops' (which later became a cult favorite after
being included on the obscurities album Nuggets 2). Despite being
widely considered a psychedelic band, the Mops' original songs were
more garage band sounding. They also had a dark side that was very
much not a hippie vibe. While most bands were playing love songs,
The Mops album had a song called 'Blind Bird' about a terrible dark
world, which contained the lyrics 'please kill me,' This led to the
song being left off some reissues (but it is included on this one.)

Peacock, Annette
X-Dreams
PS, ITALY "A little known pioneer, Annette Peacock's innovative
style of vocals and composition has earned her critical acclaim around
the world. After cutting her teeth as a member of the jazz avant garde
(touring with Albert Ayler and collaborating heavily with Paul Bley)
she made further history for her pioneering work with the Moog synthesizer
(she was the first to use it live and to use it to electronically
modify vocals). Her critically acclaimed X-Dreams, released in 1978
after her move to the UK, is an emotionally and sexually charged voyage
through minimalist 'free form' musical environments. An oneiric journey
through experimental jazz rock, featuring such luminaries as Chris
Spedding, Mick Ronson, and Bill Bruford, to name a few."

The Perfect Release
PS, ITALY "1979's Perfect Release, continued in the vein of the
previous year's X-Dreams. Diatribes on sexual and social politics
compliment her pioneering style of jazz rock/funk fusion, further
cementing Peacock's role as an individualist and musical pioneer.
Individuality is the land mark of Peacock's biography and it seems
almost unfair that they should belong to one person; as if her life
has been gluttonous for the incidents and acts of legend. "

Pig & Dan
After Ibiza/Touch
PS, GERMANY Pig & Dan are one of the big newcomers on Cocoon Recordings.
With After Ibiza/Touch, they deliver a real beamer for Cocoon, totally
right on in giving consideration to the Ibiza reference. For ten minutes,
echo bleeps and trippy beats are screwed into your brain in a way
that sometimes reminds of Ricardo Villalobos. The B-side "Touch"
comes along in a more tech-house style, with minimal structures and
overlapping harmonies, which make the perfect soundtrack for every
sundown.

prog-rock with forays into jazz territories. Well-structured and punctuated
by interesting time changes and a skillful use of wind and string

the remarkable vocal timbre of the singer also places the album a

Schnerider, Guido
Transmission
PS, GERMANY After his groundbreaking debut album Focus On, Guido Schneider
returns with a new stunning EP on Poker Flat. Transmission is even
more proof of Guido's great production skills, presenting two excellent
tracks which explore his signature sound even further. The title track
"Transmission" is a pure rhythmic and percussive affair,
showcasing a vast array of drums from kongas to bongos, and sticks
to shakers to build a hypnotizing, highly energetic soundscape. A
buzzing chant by Florian Schirmacher adds a sacral atmosphere to the
track. "Halo" manoeuvers through mainly percussive terrain,
but contains more impulsive and funky elements. Check the well-timed
cue of the deep bassline - this is ace and gives this track an extra
claim to fame.

Starving Weirdos
Father Guru
PS, US "In 1998, Starving Weirdos began crafting a body of staggeringly
beautiful, unsettling freeform soundscapes, unbeknownst to all but
a tiny circle of friends and neighbors in their native Humboldt County,
California. The duo's recorded works had not surfaced until very recently,
in the form of extremely limited CD-Rs on such labels as Jyrk and
Root Strata and on the group's own imprint. They have, without exception,
met with resounding critical praise and intense curiosity from the
experimental music community. At the core of Starving Weirdos is the
duo of Brian Pyle and Merrick McKinlay. The pair weave intricate tapestries
of sound from strands of electroacoustic improvisation, ambient noise,
free-folk, and musique concréte. The density of these works
is matched only by their clarity of purpose and execution - each piece
brings into existence a distinct sound-world, rendered with a pointillistic
attention to sonic detail that belies the duo's economy of means.
The result is a profoundly disorienting music that thrives on the
tension between artificiality and organicity, stillness and constant
mutation. Starving Weirdos' music sits uneasily beside that of their
contemporaries in the free-drone/noise/improv underground. While the
group undoubtedly has something in common with such outfits as Sunburned
Hand of the Man or Double Leopards (the two groups with whom they
are most often compared), SW's expansive, understated approach to
improvisation and recording more closely resembles an amalgam of early
AMM, Taj Mahal Travellers, Basil Kirchin, and Pauline Oliveros' deep
listening experiments - as filtered through the crisp night air of
California's redwood forest."

artists to be discovered by Mr. Aaron Funk a.k.a Venetian Snares for
Sublight along with newcomer Gareth Clarke and Wisp. Mark's "Ave

beatific pulse of soundscapes, recalling IDM at its brightest, Mark's
music is pleasantly nostalgic with an added originality we think will
suprise you. Mark describes his sound as "not dissimilar to what
"The Last Of The Summer Wine" theme tune might have sounded
like if Cleggy and Foggy had habitually pushed Compo down the hill
on a rusty Ensoniq SQ1 8-track Workstation rather than on a disused
settee". It's okay we don't know either, you will just have to

Who Will Buy These Wonderful Evils
PS, SWEDEN The Swedes are taking over and are hitting the music scene
all over the world. But this is not really a new story. In Sweden,
as many other countries, the appearance of the Beatles in 1964 brought
a reaction against the stagnant music scene of the past. Literally
thousands of pop groups appeared from nowhere and the music scene
changed forever. Sweden soon became one of the greatest pop hotbeds
of the world and this compilation is the solid proof. On these two
sizzling discs the cream of the 21st century's Swedish pop/rock/psych
wonders are matched with the unquestionable pioneers of the Swedish
60s. Disc one offers a initiated peek at what's happening in the Swedish
rock, pop and psych scene right now. Known and unknown material from
current heroes such as the Soundtrack of Our Lives, Hakan Hellström
(selling platinum in Sweden), Nicolai Dunger, Jose Gonzales, Broder
Daniel, Silverbullit (aka Citizen Bird), International Noise Conspiracy,
Sagor & Swing, and Caesars Palace to hungry up-and-coming debutantes

we take a swirling ride through a time machine and encounter rare
gems from the sinfully swinging Swedish 60s. Amazing fuzz psych head
twister by the Shakers and Pugh. Swinging mod pop anthems by the Wizards,
stellar harmony pop by the Jackpots as well as a groovy sitar psych
nirvana with Charlie and Esdor, plus lots more compiled here for the
first time ever. 2 CDs containing 33 Swedish top tunes housed in a

Rub 'n' Tug present Campfire
PS, BELGIUM Originally released in 2005. Campfire is New York party
mavericks Rub 'N' Tug's decent into a raucous night out in Dante's
disco inferno. DJs Thomas and Eric Duncan compile everything from
Cozy Powell to Daniel Wang, in the true spirit of New York's after
hours loft parties, rolled up with distortion, shouting, rock, funk
and sweat. Based on a weekly NYC party called "campFIRE,"
this mix gives you a brief glimpse of the madness that is Rub 'N'
Tug when the pair get behind the decks. From the piano-led house break
of Bumblebee Unlimited's "Lady Bug" to the cinematic beauty
of Double Fantasy's "Heartbreaker" and the strutting disco
of Flash and the Pan and Hot Chocolate, Rub 'N' Tug know how to have
a party and they're at a disco near you. Other artists include: Luger

Volcano The Bear
The Birth of Streissand
PS, UK "Second release from the new Newcastle-based No-Fidelity
label, after the first recording from scene-legend Sir Richard Bishop
(of the Sun City Girls) sold out in a whistle. Something a bit special.
Having built their career upon a reputation for incendiary live appearances
and a heap of self-released CD-Rs and cassettes, Leicester's Volcano
The Bear have slowly been gathering steam, becoming one of this country's
most exciting experimental improv outfits. This startling new 7"
for No-Fi showcases the group at their most abstract, the A-side a
sinister brew of creaking violin and string plucks. It sounds something
like No-Neck Blues Band collaborating with Wolf Eyes on a re-take
of the Saragossa Manuscript soundtrack. The B-side goes further down
the path paved by Olsen and co. with some metallic clanking and utterly
gnarled noise eruptions."

PS, JAPAN The ALPS are Jefre Cantu-Ledesma (aka Tarentel), Alexis Georgopoulos
and Scott Hewicker, a loose-knit collective of atists/musicians/writers
very active in San Francisco's vital underground scene. The group specialize
in spontaneous compositions of the out-limits variety, offering a SOUND
that is ancient and new, intimate and enormous, ecstatic and expansive,
and illuminated with white light. And JEWELT GALAXIES/SPIRIT SHAMBLES
is their 1st full album collecting the first two CDR releases from The
ALPS. Following a specially tuned internal compass that leads them from
open meadows and rushing rivers to urban chaos and decay, The Alps use
a variety of sound sources (Wooden Flute, Tabla, Orchestra Bells, Electric
Guitar, Omnichord, Microphone, Clarinet, Violin Bow, Acoustic Guitar,
Organ, Shakers, Mixer, Voice, Cassette Tape, Sleigh Bells. This was
recorded with one microphone in Scott Hewickers's living room mostly
in one session on November 14, 2005 and a bit in August earlier in the
year. Of their debut JEWELT GALAXIES, the good people at AQUARIUS RECORDS
had this to say : "Glistening meditative soundscapes well-suited
to gazing at frosty mountain peaks such as those of their namesake.
Squeaky clarinets and alien flute melted into whirls of swish and whoosh,
all laid over drones and instrument hum and tape hiss. Quite beautiful."
The group are currently working on a follow-up record with engineer/producer
Philip Manley (The Fucking Champs, Trans Am, Oneida). In the coming
months, the group will release a 12" on visual artist Chris Johanson's
new imprint Awesome Vistas. The group will also contribute a song to
Devendra Banhart's forthcoming tribute compilation devoted to the works
of the Clive Palmer. (Text by Jefre Cantu-Ledesma / The Alps).

Alsace Lorraine
Dark One (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE MARCH 5TH ) (ON SALE)
PS, US Alsace Lorraine is the delicately delicious and unique electronic/guitar
pop creation of seminary professor Paul Francke. We're pleased to announce
that our favorite singer on Earth, Argentinean Singer/Artist Isol has
joined Alsace Lorraine to sing on four of the album's 14 tracks too.
Isol sings here in English for the first time! Isol left her band Entre
Rios (Elefant {Spain}/Darla {US}) when the group signed with EMI Latin
America because the deal demanded too much time away from her profession
as an Artist/Illustrator. Caitlin Brice sings backing vocals on two
tracks. Jane Francke (Paul's sister) sings one track. The sophomore
Alsace album Dark One, though not literally very "Dark", was
recorded and mixed by Paul at Paul's home studio in Chicago. Isol's
warm, exotic, sensual vocals were recorded in Isol's bedroom studio
in Buenos Aires. Paul's unique bedroom uber-pop soundtrack provides
the perfect music bed to Isol's vocal. The result is a unique blend
of Astrud Gilberto, Wolfgang Press, Eurythmics, Pale Saints, St. Etienne,
Magnetic Fields, Hope Sandoval, as well as The Wake, Section 25 and
other Factory-esque influences. Hopefully, Paul and Isol will make more
beautiful music together. Alsace Lorraine sounds romantic; thoughtful,
sensuous and smart. Comment from Paul Francke: I began the album begun
during college on the south side of Chicago and completed it while working
in Campbeltown, on the end of the Kintyre Peninsula, the most remote
part of mainland Britain. Between those points I worked on the record
in an Episcopalian seminary dormitory in Alexandria, Virginia, while
training to be a seminary professor. It couldn't have been done without
my brilliant, non-religious friends: Isol sings four of the best songs
on the album, but she also made important suggestions for changes to
the lyrics and music. We share a lot of beliefs regarding art and beyond,
and it has been fascinating to work with her. Her friend Nico recorded
her vocals in a studio in Buenos Aires. Caitlin Brice, the lead singer
from the previous album, sings excellent backup on two songs here. Joe
Moore plays guitar on one song, and my younger sister Jane sings on
one song as well.

Antonio Carlos Jobim And Luiz Floriano Bonfa
S/T (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 23RD)
PS, UK Antonio Carlos (Tom) Jobim is the biggest name in Brazilian music.
His composition 'The Girl from Ipanema' with 'Yesterday' are the most
popular song of all time and it is THE number that defines Bossa Nova
(though Jobim wrote two dozen other songs that are intrinsic to the
genre). Jobim and the virtuoso Brazilian guitarist Luiz Bonfa were (with
Joao Gilberto) the architects of Bossa Nova; overseeing the transition
of traditional samba song to the new form and our collection covers
those years of transition. Our set includes Jobim songs played by Bonfa
and vice versa. It includes vintage domestic hits written either by
Jobim or by both men and as a major feature also includes the entire
score of the 1956 'Orpheus of the Carnival' stage play (written by Tom
Jobim and the poet Vinicius de Morais). This was the blueprint for the
famous film 'Black Orpheus' which two years later swept all before it
at the Cannes Film festival and put Bossa Nova on the world map. Our
set captures the flavour of fifties Brazil, when in arts and culture
and sport the country was really emerging. Jobim and Bonfa are popular
throughout the world. Much of the later work of both men has long attained
classic status and is in print (eg Jobim's number 1 USA LP with Frank
Sinatra). Both men are major names in America and Japan. Bossa Nova
has been given further impetus with the re-discovery of Tropicalia and
period Brazilian music is now extremely prominent, in Britain and Europe
especially. Any student of Brazilian music will appreciate this album.

Aphrodisiacs, The
In the Name of the Father (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 23RD)
PS, JAPAN Scottish experimental trio have been around since 2002 when
they reportedly sounded like Mogwai with a Casio keyboard thrown in

2002 festive fifty and which landed the band a Peel Session to boot.
"In the Name of the Father" is The Aphrodisiacs' first full-length
album and features 6 remastered tracks from the minialbum
plus 6 brand new tracks recorded in 2006. "The Scottish trio use
soothing vocals to lure you into their dark and eerie electro rock world
where tense guitars suddenly explode over insistent clipped beats, and
it's all frighteningly catchy and incredibly good. New Order, Depeche
Mode and The Cure references abound on the more upbeat tracks, the slower
efforts warmly reminiscent of Death Cab For Cutie, making This is a
Campaign a sparse and utterly beguiling slice of disco music for the
quietly deranged." (Camilla Pia)

No Spectre (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 6TH )
PS, US Arc Lab's sophomore release "No Spectre" finds the
n5MD imprint returning to its roots. Medard Fischer (a.k.a Arc Lab)
uses almost 99.9% the digital realm to create his sonic tapestries.
Those familiar with Fischer's music will hear unparalleled growth in
his production and songwriting since 2005's "the nineteen floors"
(MMBP). Those unfamiliar will take comfort in his musical expressions.
"No Spectre" features cascading rhythms reminiscent of some
of Telefon Tel Aviv's beat-work, the melodious cadence of early Arovane
and some of the warm yet slightly sinister elements of label-mate Proem.
It highlights a delicate balance of tension and emotion, harnessing
errant melodies, fractured percussion and granular synthesis experiments
to make that all-important musical connection with the listener. Human
moments made by machines? A human heart succumbing to the synthetic?
Or maybe just an artist utilizing some old spectres to make something
all his own... tracklisting: I`m All Vectors, Versions, Natch, So Much
For No Surprises, The Several Song Dead Days, Miss Wet T-Shirt Vancouver
2006, Plays Tim Arndt, Spectres, The Past!, All Parallels.

At Swim Two Birds
Returning to the Scene of the Crime... (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY
6TH )
PS, SPAIN CD DIGIPACK + 8 page booklet. Returning to the scene of the
crime is the new album by AT SWIM TWO BIRDS, the solo project of Roger
Quigley - singer of the acclaimed duo from Manchester The Montgolfier
Brothers and undoubtedly one of the biggest talents in the English music
scene. AT SWIM TWO BIRDS shocks with the very stillness of the music:
undulating guitar lines with a hint of the sound of pubs and fairgrounds,
moodchanging music full of deep beauty. And although there is a certain
similarity to the sound created by The Durutti Column and Tindersticks,
for AT SWIM TWO BIRDS it is the lyrics which play the key role. Quigley
spends time in the twilight world of corner pubs and cafes, with those
who are lonely or depressed, those who love each other but are lost.
His words touch the heart because they are about those trifles that
make sense of our lives, that are common to everyone. AT SWIM TWO BIRDS'
music encapsulates the strange pleasure that comes from contemplating
a drama, understanding it and sharing it. Perhaps if David Lynch had
filmed "The Straight Story" in England, he would have chosen
the music of AT SWIM TWO BIRDS' as his soundtrack. "Quigley lies
under the snow, as if he feels there is a silky warmth before the last
goodbye ..." Les Inrockuptibles. "We knew that from the immese
talent of Quigley we could only expect yet another masterpiece, another
cleasing of the soul, but before such beauty, one cannot stop wondering:
do we really deserve it?" (Rockdelux, June 2003). "With his
pride in the working class and the common people he offers these delicious
bucolic nuances for those who are still able to stop, contemplate and
listen ..." (Mondosonoro, July-August 2003).

Bardot, Brigitte
And God Created Woman (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 23RD)
PS, UK 'And God Created Woman' is the soundtrack to the notorious 1956
film that made Brigitte Bardot the sex symbol of her generation and
propelled her to International stardom. It was condemned by the Church
and created scandal everywhere. Bardot's then husband and film director
Roger Vadim - 'Barbarella', was quick to capitalise. It made a fortune
and changed the face of cinema. Jane Fonda called it "the first
cinematic blow for women's liberation" and as a landmark in French
cinematic culture is considered the film that ushered in the 'New Wave'.
The jazzy/mambo score by Paul Misraki ('Alphaville') creates the appropriate
steamy atmosphere and in the first half of the programme Brigitte Bardot
reads selections from the script in French.

Bark Haze, The
Unititled (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE FEBRUARY 13TH)
PS, US This limited edition lp was pressed in an edition of 500 with
letterpressed covers done by Manifesto. These are completely different
recordings than the Bark Haze compact disc also on Important Records.
The Bark Haze is primarily a guitar duo of GOWN (nom de plume of one
Andrew Macgregor) and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth etfuckingcetera).
Auxiliary members have been know to include Pete Nolan (Magik Markers,
Virgin Eye Blood Brothers, Cops et al). Their name came from a mis-hearing
of the radical early 70s R+B group the Bar-Kays and from that moment
the concept of mis-hearing and allegiance to presenting the mis-hearing
as some open-ended musical course became The Bark Haze's identity. So
far all concerts have taken place in Western Massachusetts and once
in the confines of Cambridge, MA's Twisted Village record emporium.
They anxiously await their debut gig in the UK at the Nightmare Before
Christmas event curated by Moore. As the heroic and potentially bonkers
Carpenters refrained We've Only Just Begun. Damn straight.

Cantu-Ledesma, Jefre
The Garden of Forking Paths (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JANUARY 9TH)
PS, JAPAN Jefre-Cantu Ledesma is a San Francisco based artist and musician.
He is a founding member of Tarentel and since 1995 has recorded and
toured in the US, Europe & Japan with the group. In 2000 after a
much needed break from the band schedule he began making solo music
under the name Colophon. In 2003 Love Loops was released on the Temporary
Residence label as part of their mail order only Travels In Constance
series. In 2004 he started the Root Strata label and has released recordings
from a wide variety of musicians such as Yellow Swans, Grouper &
My Cat is An Alien. The Garden Of Forking Paths is the first full length
solo CD by San Francisco based musician Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. Eschewing
the laptop processing of his earlier work as Colophon, the album was
created with an assortment of tape recording mediums (Cassette, Micro-Cassette,
Reel to Reel tape machine) and a small arsenal of guitar stop boxes
used on wide variety of instruments from electric guitar to bowed gong.
In addition to recording at his home studio, various sites found in
the near by Marin Headlands just north of San Francisco were used for
live outdoor site specific recording. With its title taken from a short
story by Jorge Luis Borges, the album is overtly concerned with dreams,
memory, death, birth, infinity and the possibility of a labyrinth like
approach to music making, where songs are not written as much as they
slowly emerge out of the process of music making.

baroque, jangling pop to The Byrds, Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel,
Nick Drake, The Band, Belle & Sebastian, The Velvet Underground,
Lambchop, and Norway's Kings Of Convenience. Guest appearances by Laakso

grooves to "Party Grunge" and sax'd-out dub, this record has
it all. Though the band proudly wears their influences on their sleeves,
they stand apart because the melting pot sounds unique. They lock and

these sixteen songs full of riotous images and indelible hooks, sounding
